10 November 2016

Jim is exhausted
Jim is exhausted, not having been able to sleep during the night, and Eileen confirms he was tossing and turning.
"Going round in my head"
He tells her, “It was going round in my head – Courtney and the little one, and what kind of grandfather I would have been.”   She urges him not to upset himself, but he continues,
"I have to know, Eileen!"
“Then I tried working out who has been sleeping with my little girl.   I have to know, Eileen!   It’s my duty to find out!”
"It's very quiet without Sioned and Ed"
She tries to change the subject by remarking how quiet it is without Sioned and Ed.
"I don't want her to go to school today"
Ffion is very reluctant to let Arwen go to school today,
"You can't think that way, Ffi!"
but Gethin warns, “You can’t think that way, Ffi, or you wouldn’t let her go anywhere.”   It has scared Ffion that such a thing could happen to Courtney, but Gethin is relieved that the MOT was not to blame;  “You’ve got to be strong, because Arwen is none the wiser about what happened, is she?   Come on, your daughter is excited about going to school.”
"I was so sorry to hear about Courtney"
Mark comes to the shop flat with a letter, and expresses his condolences;
"That will be the passport"
the letter is a new passport for Courtney,
"I didn't know anything about that!"
which Eileen applied for,
"She was talking about going away after the exams"
as Courtney was talking about going away after her exams.
"No, I'm not taking on any work"
At number 7, Iolo is on the phone, explaining to someone that he is not taking on any work at the moment.
"You ought to get back to work"
Tyler considers that work would give him some focus;
"Carry on as if nothing's happened?"
“What, carry on as if nothing’s happened?” objects Iolo.
Tyler answers that things are not easy at school either, as counsellors will be coming in today for the sixth from.
"I ddin't marry you so you could be a kept man!"
“You really should think about going back to work,” he encourages, “I didn’t marry you so you could be a kept man!”
"Oh – that was my plan all along!"
Iolo jokes that this was his plan all along.
"It was a mistake letting her stay there!"
Jim is still musing;  “It was a mistake letting her stay there after Angela left!
"What if Eifion is the father?"
I’ve been trying hard not to think this, as it’s so disgusting – what if Eifion is the father?   Courtney did kiss him.”
"He wouldn't do that!"
Eileen dismisses this as ridiculous, but Jim insists, “He’s a liar – who likes little girls!   I should have realised sooner!”   She urges him not to do anything that he will regret, pointing out that Eifion has been very helpful to them recently.
"A perfect front!"
“A perfect front!” snarls Jim, as he rushes out, followed by Eileen.
"Hey, Ricky!"
At school, Ricky emerges from a classroom and walks rapidly away;
"The counselling sessions were about to start"
Tyler explains to Gaynor that the individual counselling sessions were about to start.   Gaynor asks Ffion to have a word with Ricky;
"Ricky has always been a sensitive soul"
Ffion confirms that Courtney’s best friend, Elliw, is handling the tragedy well, adding that Ricky has always been a sensitive soul.
"I won't keep you long – if you tell the truth!"
Eifion is about to leave for work when he is confronted by Jim, who says ominously, “I won’t keep you long – if you tell the truth!”   Eileen asks if he and Courtney were in a relationship, but Jim amends this;
"Were you the father?"
“Not just a relationship – were you the father of the baby Courtney was carrying?”
"Courtney pregnant?"
Eifion is astonished;  “Courtney pregnant?   No, definitely not!”
"You would deny it!"
“You would deny it, now that Courtney is not here to tell the truth!” rages Jim, “I shouldn’t have let her stay with a dog like you –
"Everyone knows your history with young girls!"
everyone knows your history with young girls!
Eifion protests that he thought the world of Courtney, and was like a father to her;  Jim advances toward him and growls, “She already has a father!   I don’t want to see you anywhere near the funeral next week!   Understand?”
Eileen cannot make any difference
Eifion is dumbfounded as Jim and Eileen leave.
Ffion catches up with Ricky
Ffion pursues Ricky through the school;  “You’ll have to be faster than that to beat a PE teacher,” she says,
"I know you two were close"
“Look, I know that you and Courtney were close – I understand more than you think.”
"Have you talked to her recently?"
Ricky asks if she has talked to Courtney recently.
“No, I haven’t,” she replies, “But I know how much it hurts when you lose someone – I’ve lost people close to me.   It’s hard to accept that she’s gone, isn’t it?   It’s only natural.”
"I'll never forget Courtney!"
Ricky’s response is, “I’ll never forget Courtney!   It makes no sense– why does something like that happen to people our age?”   Fion reminds him that talking to someone can help, and he is not alone;  Elliw and Lisa and the rest of her friends are suffering too.
He flees from the school
She tries to persuade him to go back, but he says
“You don’t understand – no-one does!” and runs out of the school.
"Courtney – pregnant?"
Cadno is incredulous when she hears about Courtney,
"Jim reckons I'm the father!"
and Eifion gruffly remarks, “And if that wasn’t enough, Jim has got it into his head that I’m the father!”  She advises him to take no notice of Jim, but he goes on, “He’s stopped me from attending the funeral – just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse, that’s exactly what’s happened!
"You believe me, don't you?"
You believe me, don’t you?”
"You wouldn't do that!"
Cadno replies, “Yes – I know you thought the world of Courtney, but not in that way!”
"What's going on, then?"
DJ walks in and wonders what they are talking about.
“We might as well tell him,” says Eifion, “They will all be suspicious when I’m not at the funeral next week.”
DJ's curiosity is aroused
DJ is now even more eager to find out.
They reveal what has happened
“Keep this to yourself – Courtney was pregnant!   Eileen and Jim believe that I was the father.”
"This has hit Ricky very hard"
Outside the school, Gaynor tells Tyler that Ricky went home, as this has hit him very hard.   Tyler admits he keeps seeing the crash in his mind,
"I need to be at school for Courtney's friends"
but he needs to be at school as it must be worse for Courtney’s friends.
"Courtney would be very upset"
As Eileen does the ironing, she tells Jim, “Courtney would be very upset if she knew we’d turned against Eifion – whatever their relationship was, they were close.”
"He's lucky I didn't thrash him!"
“It was obvious he had something to hide!” insists Jim, “He feels guilty – just as he should.   He’s lucky I didn’t thrash him!   I don’t want him anywhere near, and I’m more determined to have a private funeral.”
"How about her friends, like Elliw?"
Eileen enquires whether her friends, like Elliw, would be allowed to come, but Jim’s mind is made up.
"No – strictly family only!"
“No – strictly private, family only – you and me, Sioned and Ed, no-one else!”
Gwen is at work in the café
As Gwen serves Beti in the café, Gaynor comes in, looking for Debbie, but has a word with Mark instead.
Gaynor speaks to Mark about Ricky
“I wanted to talk about Ricky – he walked out of the counselling session, and it’s important that he talks to someone.”
"You know how stubborn he can be"
Mark agrees to speak to him, but reminds Gaynor how stubborn Ricky can be.
"Tata, Daniel, mate!"
Gethin has just had an online chat to Daniel, then advises Ffion that it is only six weeks to Christmas.
"I haven't done any shopping yet!'
“I haven’t done any shopping yet, and Arwen has a list of things she wants from Santa,” she replies, “Maybe you could ask if Daniel can spend Christmas with us?”
"I can't see Natalie agreeing to that"
Gethin doubts if Natalie will agree to that.
"Hundreds of her mothers famous cwtches?"
As they sit on the sofa, Gethin asks, “What’s on Arwen’s list then?   Hundreds of her mother’s famous cwtches?   Loads of pink stuff, fairy costume, couple of teddies?”
"Eh – books?"
He is surprised to hear that Arwen wants books;  “I’m very happy that she wants to read,”
"She's inherited her mother's brains!"
Ffion tells him, “Obviously she’s inherited her mother’s brains!”
A cup of tea for Ricky
Ricky plays a computer game as Mark makes a cup of tea;
"Any counselling at school today?"
“There are some things you can’t control in life,” says Mark, “Was there any counselling in school today?”   Ricky nods in a non-committal manner,
"They're only trying to help"
and Mark continues, “I know you walked out of school – I know you’re going through hell, but they are only trying to help.   Will you promise me you’ll go to the next session?”
"Yeah, OK, then"
Ricky half heartedly agrees.
"Is this your honeymoon?"
Iolo and Tyler are having a drink in the Deri;  DJ remarks, “Is this your honeymoon – a few drinks in the Deri?”   Tyler points out that teachers, like farmers, find it difficult to get a few days off.
"It would be nice to get away"
“It would be nice to get away for a while, in the circumstances,” commiserates DJ.
"It's worse for Eileen and Jim "
Iolo comments that things are worse for some people, like Eileen and Jim.
"Especially after the latest news"
“Especially after this latest news – don’t you know?” says DJ, “It seems that Courtney was pregnant.”
This enrages Gaynor
At this point Gaynor arrives, and is surprised to hear about Courtney.   DJ then continues to advertise the rumour, “Jim even thinks that Eifion is the dad!”
"Something needs to be done about that man!"
Gaynor is outraged;  “Something needs to be done about that man!”
DJ takes a drink after a successful attempt at stirring
“Jim’s banned him from the funeral – and quite right too!” DJ pronounces, and resumes drinking his pint.
