they find it highly amused. Of course this is the moment when Cadno comes to collect them and take them to the cinema.

| However, Cadno does not share their enthusiasm |
She scolds him, and he replies, “It’s not against the law to play in Dad’s house, is it boys? A dirty child is a happy child, they say!”
Cadno refuses his offer to go upstairs and give them a wash,

| "Thanks for being irresponsible as ever!" |
instead insisting that she will take them home for a bath; “Thanks for being as irresponsible as ever!” she moans.

| Jim hears someone coming |
Jim has been at APD,

| "Hello – come out before I Kung Foo you!" |
and when Dai returns from the café,

| Jim makes a hasty exit |
he makes his escape, dislodging something in the process.

| "Nobody about . . ." |
Dai cannot find anyone there, and puts it down to rats;

| ". . . it must be rats!" |
fortunately he has the remedy.
Ricky is by the door to the shop flat when Jim comes back;

| "Is this a trick?" |
“Is this a trick? Are Mark and Debbie hiding round the corner, waiting to sue me?” he asks. Ricky assures Jim that he is only here to return a bracelet of Courtney’s, which he found.

| "Chester doesn't have any friends!" |
Britt and Colin arrive in their flat and hear voices; Colin assumes that Chester must have a friend round, but Britt is confident, “He doesn’t have any friends!”

| Yes, he does – a rather taciturn one |
In fact it is Adam, who occupied the next cell but one; Britt immediately asks if he was the one bullying Chester, which naturally does not go down well.

| "We need a banner for the Deri New Year's party" |
“Sort yourself out and do something useful,” she says, handing him a box, “We need a banner for the New Year’s Eve party at the Deri.”

| "You should have thought of that!" |
Chester replies that she should have thought of that before being so mean,

| "Didn't handle that very well, did I?" |
and leaves, closely followed by Adam.

In the shop flat, Ricky looks at the bracelet, while Jim asks him what he wants,

| "I shall be in serious trouble!" |
as he will be in serious trouble if anyone sees them.
 |
| "I no longer feel close to her" |
“I no longer feel close to her – what if that gets worse?” asks Ricky, “Keeping this bracelet is not going to bring her back!”

| Jim fetches the photo |
Jim picks up the photo of Courtney, as Ricky continues, “I would have taken good care of her, you know.” Jim will put the kettle on.

| There is a malign presence at Cysgod y Glyn |
Ffion looks disapprovingly at the hideous mask, which has now taken up residence at Cysgod y Glyn;

| "I'm sure that thing is cursed!" |
“I’m sure that thing is cursed! I was doing all right with this application from until that came!” she grumbles, and Gethin agrees that it gives him the creeps.

| "Why not go and see her . . ." |
“Isn’t there anyone who could help you with the form?” enquires Gethin, and is told only the other applicant for the same job. “Go and see her, and probe around the subject,” he advises,

| ". . . and take that monstrosity with you!" |
“You could even recycle that gift – but we have to get rid of it!”

| "You’ll freeze your whatchamacallits!" |
Finding Chester and Adam lurking in the alley, Colin tells them, “Go to the café – you’ll freeze your whatchamacallits!” but is told that the café will not take prison vouchers.

He hands over a fiver, which Adam seems quite keen on, but Chester returns it to Colin, stressing that they need to stand on their own two feet.

| "Wonder what they're plotting?" |
Gethin approaches, and asks what mischief they are plotting; “There is just no point, is there?” says Chester, and they walk away again, but Colin follows.
 |
| They decide to return to the flat, as Britt is not there |
Chester points out, “Mam’s at work, and you said we shouldn’t freeze our whatchamacallits!” They head back to the flat.

| "You've cost me a lot of money!" |
At Penrhewl, Cadno advises Eifion that the cinema will not change the tickets;

| "You only had to do one thing!" |
“I asked you to get the boys ready – you only had to do one thing!”
 |
| "I'm not useless!" |
Eifion replies that it is not the end of the world, but he had to make a point. “You want to believe that I’m useless as a father, but I’m not. I’m sorry for making them laugh and enjoy life!” She protests that she has to work hard and has no time to play silly games.

| "We all know how much you suffer!" |
He sneers that they all know how much she suffers. “I have to slave because you’re not here,” she exclaims,

| "Chasing girls and rustling sheep!" |
“And when you were, you stalked other women, chased girls and rustled sheep – not to mention lying about the vasectomy! The list is endless!”
When he answers that the list is out of date, she tells him, “Today has proved that you’re just as useless as ever!”

| "Look at what I've achieved!" |
He draws attention to what he has achieved since their separation; he has his own house, was married, and even Jim admits he was a good stepfather.

| "But none of that counts!" |
Eifion goes on, “I had a good job – one that I enjoyed, and gave it up to look after you when you had the accident. But none of that counts because it doesn’t suit your pitiful sob story! I’m better off without you!”

Ffion takes the unwanted gift to Gaynor; “It reminded me of you,” she says, hastily adding, “Strong and unique!”

| Gaynor is evidently not enamoured with it |
This does nothing to change Gaynor’s perception of the thing.

Ffion hopes that she is not disturbing Gaynor, who replies that she has never seen such a complicated application form.

She would value Ffion’s feedback about the questions over a cup of coffee;

| Ffion is rather pleased with herself |
Ffion looks quite smug about this.

| Adam uses Catrin's device |
Colin catches Adam playing with one of Catrin’s computer devices and asks him to leave it alone.

| "Doesn't talk much, does he?" |
“He doesn’t talk much,” Colin remarks, and Chester answers that is why he likes him, as there were a few clowns inside who never stopped talking.

Then Adam is reproved for using another device, and Chester suggests that he needs something to kickstart his life.

Adam has by now graduated to Britt’s laptop, so Colin hurries to retrieve it, while telling Chester he needs to find something to do with his time; “You need to show people that they’re wrong!” he advises

| "How about getting on with the banner?" |
and hands Chester the box of banner-making materials.
 |
| "If I can borrow this laptop . . ." |
“If I can borrow this laptop, I can download some software to create something really special,” Chester tells Colin.

| Eifion continues doing his housework . . . |
Cadno goes to see Eifion, who is vacuuming – and does not stop as she shouts to him,

“What you said was right – I’ve been stuck in a rut – things were bad when we separated, but I can see that now you’ve changed. I was wrong – and I forgot how sexy you are when you’re angry!”

He informs her that he is not going to fall into her arms just because she clicks her fingers. “We both know I’ve changed – but have you?” he demands, “You’re not the perfect woman you think you are – you can be grumpy, spoilt, whingy!

“I want proof that you’ve changed too, and I know exactly how to get it!”
 |
| "I feel closer to Courtney than for a long time" |
As Ricky fingers the bracelet, he says, “Do you know what? I feel closer to Courtney than I have for a long time!”

Jim replies, “Do you know what? So do I!”

| "We're keeping part of her alive" |
Ricky maintains that talking about her and sharing experiences is keeping part of her alive.

| "Shame that Mark and Debbie won't let us!" |
“It’s a shame that Mark and Debbie won’t let us!” Jim grumbles.

| "Think I could borrow the diary?" |
Ricky tentatively asks, “Do you think I could borrow the diary? I’d like to know what she said about me.” Jim is initially reluctant, recalling that Courtney was everything to him, and Ricky tells him, “Yes, you were the ‘Daddy Bear’! She was always talking about you – she adored you!”

Jim, who is now becoming emotional, fetches the diary and hands it to Ricky,

who then receives a text from his mother, and Jim thinks he had better go.

Cadno is incredulous; “Are you serious?” she demands. Eifion is adamant he does not want to be with someone who cramps their style.

She condescends to be splattered with aerosol cream,

| Simple pleasures! |
and Eifion takes great delight in pulling the trigger.

| "Happy now?" |
“Happy now?” she asks;

| Seems to have got over DJ very quickly! |
they both declare their love for each other and kiss.

Britt has been called home from the Deri, and she is highly impressed by the professional-looking banner created by Chester, who has been instructed by Adam.

| They receive their payment |
She hands money to each of them, and Chester asks if she will pay him for washing glasses at the Deri on New Year’s Eve.

“How else can I start to build my CV?” he asks.

| Colin relaxes . . . |
The boys leave, followed by Britt,

and Colin looks very pleased with what has been accomplished.

As Britt gets back to the Deri, Dai asks if they have a problem with rats in the cellar. “Keep your voice down,” she urges, “People will worry about Weil’s Disease!”

Seeing Cadno and Eifion, coming in in, Dai comments, “Weil’s disease is already here!

| "I can't stomach being near these two!" |
“Bring my drink over, Britt –I can’t stomach being near these two!”

| "Right, I'll come and get him" |
Then he has a call from Linda, not happy that DJ is there with her. “Right, if you feel it’s too much for you, I’ll come and get him – he can come back and live with us at Bryntirion,” Dai concedes.
