as soon as he deploys it, water spurts over him, and Cadno has to rush forward to turn off the stop tap. “You’re not going anywhere near it – we need a plumber” she orders,

adding, “At this rate, we shall divorce before we get married,” and they both laugh.

| Anita is all smartened up |
Anita, looking very smart, tells Kelly that she is going shopping;

| "What, dolled up like that?" |
“What, dolled up like that?” is the reply.

| "I've got an appointment, too" |
Anita says that she also has an appointment, a private one, and Kelly enquires, “What – like medical?

| Kelly is anxious |
“It must be important if you need an appointment, and I can see you’re worried!” Anita assures her that it is unimportant.

| "Megan is getting Bethania ready" |
Diane informs Cadno and DJ in the street, “A little bird tells me that Megan is getting Bethania ready,” and Cadno remarks that she sounded positive on the phone yesterday. Iolo comes out of number 7, so they go over to speak to him.

“We need a job doing on the sink at Penrhewl – it’s only a small job for a professional,” and Iolo agrees to do it tomorrow.

At prison visiting time, Anita is waiting as the inmates file in,

including Kevin, who looks pleased to see her.

| Cadno books the reception . . . |
In the Deri, Cadno and DJ ask Britt if they can hold the wedding reception there, and Cadno stresses that they have to be careful how much they party, as they do not want to hurt people’s feelings in the circumstances.

All this time, DJ is studying the newspaper, and Britt comments that he looks as if he has seen a ghost.

“Is Dora Richards your mother?” he asks Cadno, “I don’t know how to tell you this, but, I’m sorry, she’s dead!” He is surprised that her brother, Carwyn, had not told her, and she had to read it in the paper.

She is shocked, and goes home alone.

Iolo goes to Y Felin and immediately asks where Gwyneth is; on learning that she is having a nap, as Siôn tells him that she tires easily these days,

he concludes, “So we can talk about fixing a sink at Penrhewl?” Siôn is reluctant to do it, and Iolo comments,

Siôn adds that he is having his tag removed today, so invites Iolo for a celebration drink at the Deri tonight.

At APD, Diane is planning for the wedding and asks Dai if his suit still fits. “You’re the one who gets a new rig-out for weddings,” he moans, “More money down the drain!”

Diane asks if Linda ought to be invited, and he replies that it depends on her health.
Then DJ comes in,

and is greeted with, “Here comes the condemned man!”

| "Cadno's mother has died" |
He explains that Cadno’s mother has died, that she had been in a home and did not recognise anyone. In fact, she was nasty to Cadno, about which she and her brother argued, and they had not spoken much for the last few years.

Dai is of the opinion that it is not good for her to be alone at home; “There’s too much time to dwell on it, and before you know it, she’ll turn round and cancel the wedding. Grief has a strange effect on people. I’d forget about the wedding for now, and concentrate on Cadno – she needs you more than ever!”

Kevin knows it was not an easy decision, but thanks Anita for coming; “It’s hard coping with the fact that Dad will not be there when I get out. I thought he would be the first person I’d see.

“I’m going to be released next week, and I’ve been on tenterhooks about it – I should be happy at getting my freedom. I am worried how I’m going to adapt and get used to people seeing me as ‘Kevin the ex-con’ and not just as Kevin.”

Anita assures him that not all the villagers will think that, and he hopes that she is right; “I need every friend I can get – and what concerns me most is that I shall need somewhere to stay. I come back to the same answer each time –

“you’re the only one who can help me!” Anita looks very uncertain about this.
She asks about going to his mother, but he replies, “She turned her back on me years ago – when she realised I would be released into the big, bad world, she couldn’t cope – that’s Nansi for you!”

“But why come back to Cwmderi, with all its bitter memories and enemies?” demands Anita. He tells her that he wants to make up for the terrible thing he did, as he appreciates that prison cannot make up for it.

“If I can do some good when I come back, at least it’s a start to make amends – or will I be ‘Kevin the ex-con’ to you for ever?” he pleads, “They’ve contacted Sheryl, and she gave the OK for me to come back – all I’m asking is a chance to prove to everybody – and you – that I’m not a monster! Just an ordinary man, who made one mistake – is that too much to ask?”

The warder announces that visiting time is over, and Anita promises to think about what he has said.

Siôn is doing a crossword when Gwyneth comes downstairs, and is amazed to see that his tag has gone;

“They were only here five minutes,” he tells her, “I’m going to the Deri later.”

Seeing her (deliberately) disappointed look, he asks if she would rather he did not go; “Looking after you is what really matters to me.”
“I don’t want you to think I’m trapping you,” she simpers,

so he decides that as there is wine in the fridge, he will fetch a takeaway.

At Penrhewl, DJ suggests, “With everything that has happened I thought you might want to postpone the wedding.”

Cadno assures him she does not want that, adding that she will go to the funeral on her own, as it is not the occasion to introduce DJ to her family for the first time.

In the Deri, Iolo wonders whether, in the circumstances, he ought to stay away from Penrhewl. “I’m helping Dad to celebrate saying farewell to the tag tonight,” he tells Britt, and receives no reply when he phones the farm to arrange to go there another time.

Then Siôn arrives, but tells then he will only be staying for one pint, as he is collecting a takeaway and going back home.

Siôn looks at Britt and she tells him, “There’s no fool like an old fool!” He protests that he can look after himself, and considers he knows Gwyneth well enough. “Yes, and so do I!” snarls Britt.

“Show me that you can stand on your own two feet – come with me to that job at Penrhewl on Friday!” challenges Iolo, and Siôn agrees to do that.

At Bryntirion, DJ tells Dai and Diane that Cadno is being being very brave; “If it was my Mam, I wouldn’t know what to do.”

As he has mentioned her, Dai asks whether it would be a good idea to invite her to the wedding.
DJ answers, “Why should I? She left, and I don’t want her there.”

When Anita returns, she is asked, “How did the shopping go?

“No bags – funny that!” Then she produces the letter, and her voice rises in volume;

“How could you? I thought you were ill!

“All the time you were sneaking off to see the neighbourhood rapist! I can’t believe you visited him, after what he did to Sheryl! What about me — and what happened with that Rhodri pervert? Doesn’t that mean anything to you?”

Anita tries to explain that it is complicated, and she wants to do what Meic would want.

Kelly rants, “Am I missing something here? Meic isn’t here!” As Anita is silent, she demands what Kevin wanted.
