25 February 2016

All the necessary people have been informed
DJ has finished phoning everyone who needs to be notified, and Cadno apologises,
"I can't talk on the phone without crying!"
“I can’t talk on the phone without crying – there’s nothing anyone can do – we can’t bring her back.
"It's so odd without her here"
It’s so odd without her here,” she says, looking at Marian’s empty chair.   “I shouted at her yesterday!   Do you think she forgave me?” Cadno pleads.
"Of course she did, Catherine"
DJ assures her, “Of course she did, Catherine.”   Cadno recalls that only Anti Marian could get away with calling her that.
Vicky chats to Ed
Vicky goes to Deri Deithio and gives Ed a thank-you card for his help with her moving, and reports that despite the crowding in the café flat, no-one has killed anybody yet.
"She won't answer her phone"
Ed says he will keep the card to remind him that he has a friend.   “I don’t feel like it since Sioned has been gone.   She won’t answer her phone, and there’s nothing I can do,” he tells her.
"Mark's worse off than you"
Vicky points out that there are some who are worse off than him;  “Mark, for instance!”
Gwyneth always looks pleased to see Siôn
Gwyneth comes out of her front door, meets Siôn
"You haven't heard about Marian, have you?"
and is told about Marian’s death;
Gwyneth is stunned
she is stunned, and Siôn says he will see her later.
"Siôn will be coming over soon"
Jim and Eileen arrive at Penrhewl, and are told that Siôn will be there shortly;  Marian had spoken to him about what she wanted after her death.   As Eileen makes a cup of tea, Jim is about to sit down,
"You mean that was the chair where she . . . ?"
but Cadno points out that was Marian’s chair.
"I came as soon as I could!"
Then Sioned rushes in;  “I came as soon as I got the message!” and wonders where Ed is.   Looking at Cadno, she says angrily, “What happened?   She was fine when I left!”
"At least, I've been here for Marian!"
Cadno regards this as an accusation, and protests that she has been here for Marian, unlike Sioned.
It is pointed out to Sioned, “She was 87, she had a good life and died in her sleep.”
Sioned is very upset
She is nevertheless understandably very upset.
Vicky explains to Ed, “The worst thing about losing Dewi was losing Mark as well!”
"He will be released"
When Ed is of the opinion that he will be released, as he is not guilty, Vicky does not share his confidence.   “Even if he is released, we still don’t know who killed Dewi!   I can’t move forward without all the answers. There has been a police appeal in the paper for more information.
"I hope someone's conscience troubles them!"
Someone knows something, which is what the police need!   I hope that someone’s conscience troubles them, so they go and tell the police!”
“You’re right,” replies Ed , “My problems are nothing to the way you feel.”
Not simply a hug of support . . .
He hugs her and she is glad she has some support, but when he tries to kiss her,
. . . but a kiss is not what Vicky wants
she pulls away, telling him that it is not right just because he feel sorry for her.   He suddenly picks up his jacket and keys;  as he hurries off he, tells her, “There’s something I have to do!”
Debbie calls at Angela’s to offer her condolences;
Eifion is very troubled
Eifion is upset, and Angela finds this is perfect reason to cancel the auction.   Debbie is very reluctant as she has made all the arrangements.
"Marian comes first!"
Eifion insists, “I understand that the auction is important, and Ange’s treatment is important – but not tonight!   Marian comes first!”
Debbie is not happy about this
Debbie sadly leaves.
He has got as far as the police station yard
Ed arrives outside the police station, and sits in the car, thinking.
"I shall have to cancel the auction"
Debbie goes to the Deri and tells Dani and Garry that she has had to cancel the auction.   Garry is solely concerned about the loss of profit;
"Do you realise how much business we'll lose?"
“Do you realise how much business we’ll lose?”   The fact that Marian’s family are in pieces does not concern him.
"Don't listen to him – just reschedule later"
Dani takes Debbie aside and informs her that she should just let them know when she wants to reschedule the auction.   Then she explains to Garry, “Think about it – there’s a funeral, so there’s a wake.   They’ll want somewhere to hold it – more business for us!”
Ed cannot believe what he sees on his phone
After a while, Ed walks into the police station, but his phone rings, and he cannot believe that it is a call from Sioned.   “Where are you?   I’m so sorry about everything!” he says.
"Come up here please – I need you!"
Sioned tearfully tells him, “I’m up at Penrhewl – Anti Marian’s dead!   Come up here please, I need you!”
"I'm on my way!"
He turns round and exits the police station, hurrying to Sioned.
A solemn convocation round the kitchen table
Around Penrhewl’s kitchen table, the family gather and are briefed by Siôn, who has a detailed list provided by Marian of her final wishes.   “The service will be at Bethania, and the funeral tea here.”   Eileen expects she will have some baking to do,
"There's a freezer full of Bara Brith"
but Siôn continues, “There’s a freezer full of Bara Brith, Welsh Cakes and other things, all ready to go.
“Yes, she has been baking a lot recently,” comments Cadno, and
"She wouldn't want a funeral tea at the Deri!"
Eifion doubts that she would want a funeral tea at the Deri.   Ed remarks that he is banned from there anyway, and Sioned looks puzzled.
Marian has detailed the hymns and readings
Siôn has a list of the hymns and readings for the service.
"Did she know she was dying?"
“Did she know she was dying?” asks Sioned, and Siôn tells her that Marian knew her time was coming, and was prepared for it.
Ready to go and drum up some business
Dani has printed the menu;  she and Garry are ready to go and offer their condolences at Penrhewl.   “Sandwiches, Bara Brith – they’re like the posh afternoon teas you can get – we could offer them here, with a bottle of Prosecco or something.”
"If we cut the crusts off the sandwiches . . ."
Garry likes this idea;  “If we cut the crusts off the sandwiches, we can charge even more!   You’re determined to make a success of this place, aren’t you?”
Bare Brith and Welsh Cakes, enough to stock a shop
Eileen checks the chest freezer, which is indeed full of all manner of cakes;  as they are leaving, Angela reports to Eileen that she has managed to cancel the auction.
"Have you told Eifion yet?"
“I should think so too!” Eileen replies, “Have you told Eifion yet?”   Angela argues that she cannot do so today, of all days, but her mother’s response is, “That’s just what you said the other day – but what do you expect from a liar?”
"Do you want me to cause more heartbreak?"
“Eifion’s heartbroken over Anti Marian – do you want me to cause more heartbreak?” demands Angela,
"It might just 'slip out'!"
but Eileen chillingly answers that she cannot be blamed if it were to accidentally ‘slip out’.
Dani has bought some suitable flowers
As Ed is about to carry Sioned’s bags up to the shop flat, Vicky is watching from the salon.
What Vicky sees, through the net curtain
She sees him kiss Sioned, and stalks out to confront him.
"You tried to kiss me this morning!"
“I understand now what sort of man you are!   You tried to kiss me this morning, but the second she turns up, you run to her like a puppy!   I’m not interested in being used!”
"I've not been sure of anything the last few weeks"
Up in the flat Sioned thanks him for coming when she phoned;  “I’ve not been sure of anything the last few weeks.   I was angry and wanted you to suffer!”
"I would never take steroids again!"
Ed assures her that he has not been taking steroids again, and would never do that to her.
“I haven’t been myself lately, but living here I feel as if I’m losing control of my life,” he admits.
"I intend to stay"
She has not enjoyed being away from him, and concedes that things are far from right between them, but she intends to stay.
"It reminds me of losing Dad!"
As she hugs Ed, she sobs, “It reminds me of losing Dad!”
An expression of sympathy
Dani and Garry arrive at Penrhewl, making suitably sympathetic noises, and Dani asks if there is be a tea after the funeral.
"Dani has a price list here"
She offers the Deri as a venue for this, and Garry advises they have brought a price list.
"Oh, that's why you're here!"
DJ is outraged by this;  “Oh, that’s why you’re here!   You just want to make money!   I think you should go!” and they consider it politic to do so.
Gwyneth's tribute to Marian
Gwyneth has been compiling a CnocCnoc tribute to Marian on the laptop as Siôn joins her in the Deri;
"She would have been so pleased"
he tells her that Marian would have been so pleased.   “It’s a pity I didn’t tell her these things before she died,” confesses Gwyneth,
"I had a lot of things on my mind"
“I went away last week because thing were getting on top of me.   I had a lot of things on my mind.”
“Like Britt?” suggests Siôn, “I saw you together the other day.”   Gwyneth agrees that Britt was the problem – she does not want them to be together, and she has made that quite clear.
"It's not her I want to be with!"
“It’s not her I want to be with!” she stresses,
Siôn gets the message, loud and clear
and by the half-smile on his face, Siôn knows exactly what she means.
Sioned is back at the farm
Sioned returns to Penrhewl, and finding no-one about,
Marian, many years ago . . .
looks at an old photo of Marian on the table,
. . . and her jewellery box
then opens the tin which serves as a jewellery box.
A ring and a pearl necklace
She takes out a ring and a pearl necklace,
What a despicable act – stealing from the dead!
and after looking at them, slips them into her pocket.
