Angela admits to Eileen that as there is still no sign of Courtney, they will have to go to the police; “I would never forgive myself if something happened!” she says,

and her mother confirms she would not forgive her either.
“We’ll go to the police station at Llanarthur instead of phoning,” Eileen tells her, “And explain everything face to face.” They leave the flat.

| "You're just in time for lunch" |
Tyler is back from his school trip to Llangrannog, where he enjoyed the ski slope and the rollerskating. Iolo asks him if he wants to join them for lunch, emphasising that he is just using up some leftovers to make risotto.

| Colin lets the cat out of the bag |
When Colin comes in, looking forward to his meal, he lets on to Tyler that Iolo went to Carmarthen specially to get the ingredients.

Cadno is anxious as she talks on the phone in English, “You tried to get in touch with my relative, Marian Rees – we found the letter with your address on the back, but haven’t opened it. You’re what?”

| "We have to eat at the table" |
Iolo announces that the food is ready, and Colin is surprised that they are eating at the table, like a special occasion.

Iolo tries too hard, listing all the ingredients and asking Tyler if he would like some pepper. When Tyler tells Colin that he is lucky, living with a chef, he is told,

“Iolo doesn’t make this for him and me!” Iolo maintains he does not want the food to go to waste.

Angela goes home to tell Eifion of the decision to go to the police, but then he has a text from Courtney;

“Phone me back. Want to meet. Don’t tell Mam.” He tells Angela that it is from Hywel, about the rugby team, and that he will go to see him, while she is waiting for Eileen, who has been called urgently to Penrhewl.

When Eileen arrives there, she is told that Marian has a brother, James; “Yes, I know – she had a younger brother, who died of pneumonia when young,” says Eileen, but Cadno advises that he is still alive, and has been talking to her.

DJ reveals that the letter, which they have now opened, tells of someone who knew Denzil travelling across South America, and meeting James Hobbs.

“He left Wales at 18, changed his name and started a new life. He is alone now and would like to fly home one last time – but money is scarce! He could not afford it unless someone paid.”

Eileen wonders why he tried to contact Marian, if not to extract money from her.

DJ continues reading the letter, “Denzil’s friend said that you ran a shop and a farm – you’re obviously leading a happy and successful life back home.” Cadno adds that he was shocked to hear that Marian had died.
DJ has to leave to see Hywel in the Deri, and Eileen tells Cadno one more thing;

“Marian said her brother was dishonest – he stole money from the family and blamed her. That’s why she wanted this brother kept in the past.”

| Eifion meets Courtney |
Eifion has been in contact with Courtney and hurries to her hidingplace; she tells him that she is staying with Elliw and needs him to get her a few more things from the house.

He however is adamant, “You’re coming back with me!”
Courtney will not agree if her mother is there, but he insists, “Everyone has been worried sick about you – including your mother. I know what she did was wrong, but you are punishing everyone else.” Courtney closes the door to give them more privacy.

In the Deri, Hywel and DJ talk about the shortage of players the rugby team is experiencing; Tyler passes,

and Hywel says, “Your sister told me you used to play rugby at school. We need an outside half – why don’t you come to training?”

DJ tries to encourage him, “Iolo’s a scrum-half – you and Iolo being mates, you’ll understand each other – a dream partnership! I’m sure you could handle big front-rowers chasing after you!”

Tyler demands if he is trying to be funny, insists that he does not play any more, and furiously walks out of the pub.

DJ and Hywel look at each other in puzzlement.

Eifion continues to plead with Courtney; “If you don’t come home now, they’re going to the police – is that what you want? They will want to talk to Elliw, and they’ll ask why all this is happening.

“That would cause a lot more arguments in the family – is that what you want?”

| Courtney accompanies him home |
Courtney decides to go with him and they walk back towards home.

Tyler demands what Iolo has been telling the rugby lads about him; “They were making childish jokes about me – have you implied that we’re an item?”

Iolo denies he has said any such thing, and regards Tyler as being really off his head.

Eileen and Angela are just about to go and sort the mess out once and for all

when Eifion returns, followed by Courtney.

She refuses her mother’s advances, shouting, “Leave me alone!” and goes upstairs.

Angela demands what is wrong with her; Eifion answers that she obviously wants to be left alone, and that he just happened to find her – a matter of luck, which Angela does not believe.

“All that matters is that she is home!” he tells her.

| "What are you going to do about the 'Prodigal Brother'?" |
DJ asks what Cadno has decided to do about the ‘Prodigal Brother’; she considers they ought to send him something, a photo of Marian for instance. DJ reminds her, “We don’t know anything about him – he might have a problem, or could be a nuisance.” She thinks they are probably safe, as he is on the other side of the world.

Then the phone rings, DJ answers, and hands it to Cadno.

“Yes, I’m sure it was a terrible shock,” she says, again in English, “No, the will only mentioned family over here, and it has all been sorted out. There was no mention of you – she didn’t leave much, having given most of the money away to good causes. Yes, I can send you a copy.”

Then Cadno’s voice takes on a different tone; “Listen, I know she was your sister, but we were family too, and we cared for her all these years. We have not taken advantage of her! If that’s your attitude, don’t contact us again!”

She remarks to DJ, “He got over his grief pretty fast!”

DJ can understand that Marian wanted to forget about him.

Eileen advises Angela, “You’ve hurt a lot of people – have you thought how you can make up for that?

“I’ll tell you one way you can start to make up for it – th £50,000 that Marian gave you.”
Angela replies, “You want me to give it back to the estate, don’t you? Eileen insists that is what Marian would want her to do, and she would be as disappointed as the rest of the family.

But as soon as her mother suggests giving back the money raised by the village for her, she receives some opposition from Angela; “I’m not going to make an announcement to the village – not yet – I have to think what’s best – and when!” Eifion encourages her to ensure that this time that her decisions are the right ones.

Iolo works out the truth; “I know that we’re short of players – they were not making fun of you – be careful or people will think you’re paranoid! I would not announce to everyone that you’re gay – but are you so ashamed?”

Tyler does not want it broadcast ‘with a loudhailer’.
Colin walks in and warns them not to argue;

“I’m old enough to be your dad, and although I’m straight, I’m happy that you’re here.”

Tyler explodes again, “You know, don’t you? You said you’re straight, and you know I’m not. Who told you?” Colin looks shamefaced at Iolo.

and when Iolo informs him that it was only Dani, he is furious. “Before I told her? I wanted a serious chat with my sister, and you’ve spoiled it!”

Angela accepts that the money from Marian will be repaid; “I hope that it will make me feel better, and Sioned and you won’t feel as if I stole it from you,” she says, “It will take about a week for the money to come from the Building Society.” Eileen thinks that this is a start.

Courtney comes downstairs, having tried unsuccessfully to sleep;

“I’m going for a walk – don’t get hysterical!” she tells her mother.

“You don’t want me as a daughter, and I don’t want you as a mother!” She leaves and Eifion follows, as Angela sits down in tears.
