| "Do you want pasta, or a takeaway?" |
Angela behaves as if nothing has happened; “I’ve made a cup of tea, and there are biscuits. I’m going to cook dinner – do you want pasta? Or we could have a takeaway.”
| "You're pretending again!" |
Eifion is not hungry; he snaps, “You’re pretending that everything’s all right again – things are far from all right! I don’t expect you to forget all about it! You led me to believe that you were dying!”
| "What do you suggest we do?" |
She smiles sweetly and asks, “What do you suggest we do? Shout at each other until we say something we regret?” He replies that might be a good idea, as tonight has been full of revelations – why should they stop now.
| "Why is she still here?" |
Courtney comes downstairs and demands, “Why is she still here?” Angela moves towards her and she shouts,
| "Get out of my sight!" |
“Don’t you dare touch me! Get out of my sight!” Her mother wants to explain her side of the story, but Courtney is emphatic;
| "Tell her to go away – and don't come back!" |
“I don’t want to hear it – tell her to go away please!”
Eifion tells Angela to go for a walk, but she takes exception to his raising his voice at her;
| "It's only what you deserve!" |
“It’s only what you deserve!” he snarls.
| Angela whines |
She starts whining about how she has never deserved anything from him – no respect, no love – but his response is, “Here we go again – Angela wants attention!”
| "Are you surprised I lied to you?" |
“The only time I got any attention from you was when you thought I was dying – are you surprised I lied to you?” she demands, but he orders her to leave,
| Courtney will find it difficult recovering from this |
and then tries to comfort Courtney.
Sioned finds Eileen in tears and asks what is wrong;
| Phne call from Eifion |
she is about to explain when her phone rings,
| "I'll come over now!" |
and she says, “I’ll come over now!”
| "What was that about?" |
She will not tell Sioned any more, but rushes off.
| "What Mam has done is awful!" |
Courtney cannot see how they will get though this; “What Mam has done is awful! I don’t see any future – not with her!”
| She does not want to talk to Eileen, either |
She does not want to talk to Eileen either, despite being told they must find a way to move on. “I don’t want to move on with her or Mam. You’re as bad as each other, and I never want to talk to either of you again!”
| "Why didn't you say anything?" |
After she storms back upstairs, Eifion agrees it is only natural to be angry, as indeed he is with Eileen; “How could you do this to me? Why didn’t you say anything?”
| "I was trying to protect Angela" |
Eileen knows that it sounds stupid, but she was trying to protect her daughter, and maintains that Eifion would have done the same for his sons.
| "We'll have to tell everyone" |
He insists, “The truth is out now – we’ll have to tell everyone and give back the money, won’t we?”
“There might be another way,” Eileen suggests, “We could say that Angela made a speedy recovery. People would be so happy – then we could give back the money, and no-one would be any the wiser.”
| "By telling more lies?" |
Eifion cannot believe she is proposing to make up for the lies by telling more lies. He is adamant that that they have tell the truth and do the right thing; if she and Angela will not do so, he will.
| "You've been suggested as a governor" |
Gaynor visits Debbie, but contrary to expectations, this is not connected with Ricky. “Some parents have nominated you to be a governor, and I wanted to know how you feel about it,” Gaynor tells her.
| "Well, I could do with some more money" |
Debbie concludes she could do with some more money, but then it is pointed out that the post is voluntary, so she loses interest,
| "In that case, I'm too busy" |
citing being busy and occupied with Angela’s illness. Gaynor leaves an explanatory leaflet with her.
| "I think Angela's worse" |
Sioned tells Ed that her Mam was crying earlier, and she thinks that Angela’s condition may have worsened.
| "I'll go to see her after shopping" |
She will go and visit her when she returns from shopping.
| "I'll tell everyone in the Deri" |
Eifion has decided that he should make an announcement in the Deri, but Eileen objects to this;
| "You're not in a position to lay down the rules" |
he makes it clear that he is not interested in her opinion.
| "You're making things worse!" |
Courtney comes downstairs and tells them to stop arguing as they only make matters worse.
| She walks out . . . |
She walk out of the house, but stops halfway across the road when Eileen calls after her.
| . . . but stops as Eileen calls to her |
“Courtney, wait! You were right – we’ve messed up completely, but I want to make up for it. I’ll do anything!”
| She hugs her gran |
Courtney turns, and they embrace in middle of the road.
| Angela is in a strange mood |
Angela arrives at the shop flat, but Ed tells her Eileen is not there.
| "What's the matter, Ange?" |
He can see that she is very troubled about something, and asks if she is all right.
| "I don't know myself any more" |
As she cries, Angela asks, “Are you who you say you are? I don’t think anyone is. I don’t know myself any more.”
| He tries to console her . . . |
Trying to console her, Ed hugs her, then she suddenly pounces on him,
| . . . but she pounces on him |
and kisses him passionately.
| "Please don't tell anyone" |
Courtney pleads with Eifion, “Please don’t tell anyone – it would be so embarrassing! I’d have to move away from Cwmderi, I’d be so ashamed.”
| "It could all be over in a month" |
Eileen explains that her mother had an idea; “She wanted me to go to America with her to have the ‘treatment’.” Eifion stresses that this is more lying. “But it gets us out of the mess without having to make excuses,” Eileen adds, “We could say that she had the operation earlier than expected – it could all be over within a month! We don’t have to go to America – just away from here somewhere.”
| "I'll never be able to face people if the truth comes out" |
Courtney is in favour of this course of action; “I’d never be able to face people if the truth came out – at least consider it!” Eifion regards this idea as ‘bonkers’ and emphasises that it will not mean that anyone has forgiven Angela.
| Ed zips himself up after his little 'escapade' |
Ed does up his trousers and tells Angela to get dressed, as Sioned will soon be home. “Does it matter?” she asks.
| "Come over as soon as possible" |
Her phone rings, and Eileen leaves her a message, “I’m with Eifion – come over as soon as possible!”
Next she tries to contact Jim, but he is not answering his phone;
| "If he opens his big mouth, all this could fall flat!" |
“If he opens his big mouth, all this could fall flat,” predicts Eifion.
| Debbie is looking for Angela |
Then Debbie comes to see Angela; they tell her that she has to go to America sooner than expected. Debbie assumes,
| "She's got worse, hasn't she?" |
“She’s got worse, hasn’t she? The sooner she gets the treatment, the better!”
Eifion compliments Eileen on her lying technique, adding, “You’ve had a lot more practice than me!” but she warns him not to act the saint, as it does not suit him.
| "I've changed my mind" |
Debbie sees Gaynor in the street and announces she has changed her mind about the governor position,
| This pleases Gaynor |
as Angela is going to America.
| "Hey, Sioned!" |
Then Debbie sees Sioned, unloading shopping from her car, and announces, “Angela is getting worse and is going for treatment soon.”
| "I knew something was wrong" |
Sioned says she was convinced that something was wrong.
| Ed removes evidence of his assignation |
Upstairs, Ed is tidying up after his little romp with Sioned’s sister, but when she arrives with the shopping,
| It must have got pretty strenuous to lose an earring! |
he notices an earring on the floor, rapidly putting it in his pocket.
| "I should go over to see Angela" |
She tells him about Angela’s deterioration; “I should go over there – I can’t ignore it – the meal can wait.”
| "Marry me!" |
Ed has to think quickly, and blurts out, “Marry me!” Sioned was under the impression that she already was, but he goes on, “Yes, but within a month.”
| "So we've decided that we'll keep quiet" |
Eileen tells Angela the news that they are going to keep quiet, as Courtney cannot bear the thought of facing people.
| "We're doing this for Courtney, not you!" |
“We’ll tell them that you’re having the operation sooner – we’re doing this for Courtney, not you! But we don’t know where Jim is, and he’s not answering his phone.”
| "You can go and tell Sioned!" |
Angela is detailed to tell the truth to Sioned, as they do not want Jim to blurt it out to her. Eileen wails, “Courtney is angry, and Jim’s gone – I don’t want to lose Sioned as well! If she hears about it from Jim, she’ll go crazy, and everyone will know about it!”
| "You're afraid we'll run out of time" |
Sioned is convinced that Ed has been thinking about Angela and her uncertain future; “You’re afraid we’ll run out of time, but what about the planning?”
| "I can't wait to marry you!" |
He simply insists that he loves her, wants to marry her, and cannot wait.
| This is when Angela walks in |
In the middle of a passionate kiss, Angela walks in, with the intention of telling her sister the truth.
| She looks at Ed . . . |
Sioned hugs her, while she looks intently at Ed.
| . . . and he looks at her |
“This early treatment may be all for the best,” says Sioned,
| "We're getting married soon" |
“We’ve got some good news –we’re getting married within the month. We wanted to make sure you had something to look forward to before you go to America –
| "I'm not walking down the aisle without my big sister" |
“I’m not walking down the aisle without my big sister!”
Angela once more chickens out and leaves them in peace.
| Angela returns home |
“I don’t know how she stays so positive,” says Sioned, but Ed just wants to forget about her.
| "Are we doing the right thing?" |
In Angela’s house, Eileen is now wondering if they are doing the right thing, but Eifion points out it is too late now. Then Angela arrives, with the news that she has not told her sister.
| "It wasn't the right time!" |
“It wasn’t the right time – she told me that she and Ed are getting married within a month – she looks so happy!
| "I've hurt enough people already" |
“Don’t make me spoil their plans – I’ve hurt enough people already.”
| "Right, we tell her immediately after the wedding!" |
Eifion agrees that the truth will be told immediately after the wedding; “At least one member of this family will be happy!” he says.
