"Courtney's gone missing!"
Angela and Eifion go to Eileen’s, asking if she has seen Courtney, as she has gone missing.
"I thought she was simply sulking"
Angela maintains she thought that her daughter was simply sulking, but Eileen’s opinion is,
"No wonder she's run away!"
“No wonder she has run away after all the stress you’ve caused!   We’ll find her – but don’t tell Jim!   If he thinks she’s run away because of this mess, there’s no telling what he’ll say!”
"The first thing addressed to us as a couple!"
Gwyneth is very excited when she opens the wedding invitation;  “It’s the first thing addressed to us as a couple!” she tells Siôn.   As he has just completed translation of ‘Commentaries for Yesterday and Today’, a guidebook commenting on the Bible, and is rather pleased with his work,
"We could do with a holiday"
he suggests they need a holiday.
“You, me and Gwern – you choose where,” he says, “Can you get some time off at Awyr Iach?
"And we can redecorate as well"
And while we’re away, we can get someone in to decorate upstairs – they can work better when the house is empty.”
Sioned and Ed hear that Courtney is missing
Sioned and Ed arrive at Eileen’s flat and hear about Courtney’s absence;  no-one has seen her and she is not answering her phone.
"I don't want her anywhere near my wedding!"
Before they start searching, Sioned says, “I may as well tell you this – I know about Angela’s lie, and I don’t want her anywhere near my wedding!”
We have not seen Elliw for a long time
Elliw, wearing a woolly hat, runs up the back street,
Courtney is hiding behind that door
and goes through a door in the wall;  she tells Courtney, hiding inside,
"You'd better get a move on!"
“The house is empty, but you’d better get a move on!   Get a change of clothes, makeup bag and a charger.   Dad and baby Geth are staying with Gran in Aberdare until Friday.”
After checking that the coast is clear, Courtney runs back to Angela’s house.
Sara is quite amenable to Gwyneth having time off
In the café, Siôn asks Sara if Gwyneth can have a few days off, and as it is very quiet, Sara readily agrees.   “It will be nice to get away from a computer screen for a few days,” he tells her.
"Haven't seen Courtney, have you?"
Eifion interrupts, to ask them if they have seen Courtney;  “Her phone’s dodgy – she’s around Cwmderi somewhere,” he lies.
Siôn then asks Sara if she is still doing her design and refurbishment work, as he wants some redecoration done upstairs in Y Felin.
Is there some history with Sara and Siôn?
“New woman, new decor!” replies Sara, “You have spacious rooms – scope to do something special.   I can give you some advice, as I know your tastes – and I know the rooms – bathroom, bedroom!”
"What's that noise in the kitchen?"
Jason arrives home and hears noises in the kitchen;  arming himself with a cat-shaped vase, he kicks open the kitchen door,
Jason bursts in to defend his home
finding not an intruder, but Diane, cleaning the cooker.
Diane has been doing some unsolicited cleaning
She is somewhat alarmed, and explains that when she was heating up that shepherd’s pie last week, she noticed the oven needed a scrub, so as she had a free morning, she came over.
Sara returns and is told by Jason that Diane has cleaned the cooker.
"The cooker is as good as new!"
Diane reports that it is now like new, after her ministrations, then thinks it is advisable to leave.
"She was hinting I can't keep the kitchen clean!"
“She was hinting that I can’t keep the kitchen clean!” growls Sara, and then notices a strange smell, which they soon identify as gas.
"And she tries to kill me, too!"
“She left the hob turned on!   She not only insults me, but tries to kill me too!”
"I'm not getting in a car with you!"
At Deri Deithio, Angela is worrying that Courtney could be anywhere.   “I’m not getting in a car with you, after last week!” she tells Ed.   He apologises for frightening her, but she continues, “You went too far!   One minute you’re in bed with me, the next you’re trying to kill me!”
Ed admits that his head has been all over the place, not just because of their liaison.
"You don't know the half of it!"
“There’s other stuff too – you don’t know the half of it!” he says, and Angela agrees that she will not tell anyone about them.
"They've all turned their backs on me!"
“I’ve hurt enough people already – I’ve told too many lies,” she wails, “If only I could turn the clock back.   They all hate me and have turned their backs on me!”   Ed assures her that he has not, then they embark on their search.
Courtney gets some belongings together
Meanwhile, Courtney has gathered some things in a bag,
A warning signal from Elliw
when Elliw sends a text, “Eifion!”   Courtney hides on the stairs,
She makes a very stealthy exit
and when he comes in and gets a can from the fridge, she silently slips out of the house.
"It's OK, nobody saw me!"
When she gets back to their hidingplace, she shows Elliw that she also has found a bottle of alcohol,
Elliw takes charge of the bottle
which Elliw puts into her pocket.
They scamper off along the back street
Then they hurry away, careful not to be seen.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
Sioned reiterates that she does not want Angela at the wedding, and demands of her mother, “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?   I could have helped.”
"If you remember, I did!"
Eileen points out that she did tell Sioned what was happening, but she chose to believe Angela instead.
"It proves how easily she can lie"
Sioned is sorry about that;  “It just proves how easily she can lie – she said you wouldn’t accept that she was ill.   She’s no sister of mine from now on – I want no more to do with her!”
Sara complains, “Your Mam has always mollycoddled you!”
"She was mollycoddling the cooker, not me!"
Jason argues that she was mollycoddling the cooker, not him.   Sara adds, “She cleans for you, cooks for you – as if I was hopeless!”
Then the door opens and in she comes again;
This time it is kettle descaler . . .
“I’ve got some kettle descaler.   When I made the tea this morning, the water tasted funny, and there was sediment all over the element.”
. . . and it is the final straw for Sara
This is the final straw for Sara;  “Right, that’s it!   I want the house key back!   Hand it over!”   Diane wonders what she has done to cause this reaction, stressing that she has only been helping to keep the place clean and tidy.
No help is forthcoming from Jason
“Now, Diane!” demands Sara, and after receiving no support from Jason, she hands it over and walks out.
"A cottage at St David's?"
Gwyneth is on the phone, enquiring about a cottage at St David’s when Megan arrives, announcing that as Siôn is not there,
"I'm willing to wait for him"
she is willing to wait.   She sits down and advises Gwyneth,
"I can't let this drag on"
“I can’t let this drag on – I’m sure Siôn will appreciate a frank conversation, as he’s hoping to be our minister.”
"You pushed Siôn into that!"
Gwyneth reminds her that she pushed Siôn into that, but Megan continues, unrelentingly, “That ‘service’ yesterday could have been held in a village hall, pub or café.   There was not much spiritual leadership there, and those who spoke were not Christians.   I found it uncomfortable to sit in chapel, listening to people who say they don’t even believe – it was quite disturbing!”
"Just carry on as if I were not here"
“Well, if you’re going to wait until he comes back, I’m not offering you a cup of tea – I have things to do!” insists Gwyneth.   Megan tells her to carry on as if she were not here.
"Have you seen Courtney?"
Eifion asks Jason in the Deri if he has seen Courtney;
"She was at the bus stop yesterday"
“I saw her yesterday at the bus stop,” Jason answers.
Swearing him to secrecy, Eifion admits, “She and Angela argued and Courtney ran off – you know what women are like!”   Jason agrees that he certainly does.
Off goes Sara again
When Sara comes in, still in a bad mood, Jason admonishes her for demanding the return of the key, maintaining that Diane was hurt.   “I was hurt when she said the house was dirty!” grumbles Sara, “She was right about one thing – Gwyneth’s house is not a nice home for us!   I don’t like it and we need to find somewhere else.
"I'm going to start looking now!"
I’m going to start looking now!”
"The holiday is booked"
Siôn returns home, and Gwyneth tells him that the St David’s holiday is booked;  then he faces the wrath of Megan Harries.
Megan expresses her views, forcibly, as ever
“That ‘service’ yesterday did not set a good Christian example.   Bethania is supposed to provide spiritual guidance – not to be a talking shop for people with all sorts of ideas and beliefs!”
"But I am a spiritual person"
Gwyneth protests, “No I don’t believe in that heaven and hell and miracles stuff, but I am a spiritual person, happy to live by Jesus Christ’s values.”
"You don't have to follow a specific faith"
Siôn maintains that someone can be a good person without following a specific faith.
Megan tells them, “Bethania’s new direction is what makes me lose sleep – the social conscience, love thy neighbour – without traditional Christianity.   That’s not good enough!”
Siôn emphasises he wants the door open to all, including non-believers, so Megan pronounces, “I don’t think you are the right person to be minister,”
Siôn seems intent on being minister
but he is adamant that if the denomination accepts him, he will be minister of Bethania.
“Not if it goes against the wishes of the members,” replies Megan, “Your situation, private life and beliefs makes me question whether you’re suitable.”
The searchers return to Angela’s house, having found no sign of Courtney.
"She likes to keep secrets from me"
“I know she likes to keep secrets from me,” says Angela,
"It must run in the family!"
and Sioned’s acid comment is that it must run in the family.
Eileen judges that it is time the police were called in, but this is opposed by Angela;
"The police will look into what's going on!"
“No!   They’ll want to know what’s behind this.   They’ll look into what’s going on!”
Sioned explodes with indignation;
"You just want to save your own skin!"
“Are you really as selfish as that?   You dismiss Courtney’s plight to save your own skin!   You just want what’s best for yourself!”
"It could destroy this family for ever!"
Angela snatches the phone from her, snarling, “They can’t do any more that we’re doing – dragging them in could destroy this family for ever!”
