5 December 2016

On his way to the outside world
Kevin is leaving prison, and one of his mates hopes to see him back before Christmas, but Kevin replies, in English, “No chance!   But I might send you a card.”
Anita is about to go and collect him
Meanwhile, in the village, Anita is about to leave to collect him;  Kelly warns her not to expect balloons and bunting when he arrives.   She is not convinced that Anita is doing the right thing, but Anita says, “He had nowhere else to go – and it won’t be for ever!”
"You still intend bringing Kevin here, do you?"
Debbie comes across from the café;  “You still intend bringing Kevin here, then?   How can you do this to Sheryl – he’s a rapist!   It’s not too late to change your mind!”   Anita has already shut the car door,
"Don't make a scene, Debbie!"
and Kelly advises Debbie not to create a scene.
Sheryl's well-thumbed cookery book
Hywel comes into the salon flat, and sees a note addressed to him;
Sheryl needs time to get her head together
“Sorry to leave you and Esther without warning.   I need time to get my head together.   Don’t worry.”
"If it was up to me . . ."
In the street Kelly emphatically tells Sioned, “If it was up to me, there’s no way he would be allowed back!” Sioned points out that it is Anita’s house,
"Great!   Another scumbag!"
then Kelly exclaims, “Great!   Another scumbag!” as Ed approaches.
"I got your message"
He tells Sioned that he received her message, and is carrying a large present.   He says that Gemma sends her regards, and Kelly comments, “And now back to reality!”
"I shall be all right!"
Sioned assures Kelly that she will be all right with Ed.
"The rain was pouring out of the guttering!"
Debbie goes to APD and informs Dai that the rain was pouring out of the guttering last night, but he answers that he is very busy.   “Have you ordered that cement?” he asks Diane,
"Oh, sorry, I forgot!"
but she has forgotten it.   “No – too busy doing work for Awyr Iach!”   She protests that she promised to help them while Sara is resting.
Debbie points out that it is only a small job,
"I'm not an octopus!"
but Dai bursts out, “I’ve only got one pair of hands – I’m not an octopus!”   Diane concludes that he will have to ask Jim to come back to help them.   Then Kelly comes in for some more security to be installed at number 10;
Dai Ashurst, customer relations expert
“Your bedroom is like Fort Knox already!” Dai shouts.
"Do you live on another planet or something?"
“Do you live on another planet or something?” demands Kelly, “Anita has gone to get Kevin!”
"It's not too late to change your mind"
Hywel leaves a message for Sheryl;  “If you’re regretting giving Kevin permission to come back, running away is not the answer – it’s not too late to change your mind!   Please come home – I don’t like to think of you on your own.”
Kevin emerges from his confinement . . .
Kevin walks between a wall and a high fence, then reaches the street,
. . . into somewhat familiar surroundings
and freedom, as the gate closes behind him.
"You took your time coming home!"
Once up in the flat, Sioned tells Ed, “You took your time coming home!”   He explains that Andrew and Gemma had plans, but Sioned complains, “You could have phoned, or texted.   I was worried you’d left me – and now you’ve had time to think, all you’re worried about is whether I’ve told the police about your past!
"If you'd stayed away one more night . . ."
If you’d stayed away one more night, I would have!”
She knocks her arm on the present, and winces, informing him that she fell over a bag he left on the bedroom floor, and could easily have broken her arm.
"Sorry, Sioned"
He unenthusiastically apologises.
"Oh, a coffee machine"
She opens the present;  “Oh, a coffee machine,” she comments and puts it back.
"I'm not welcome at APD – remember?"
Dai corners Jim in the shop, where he is serving;  “Would you like to come back?”   Jim distinctly remembers not being welcome in APD, but Dai blusters on, “We all say things we don’t mean – it wasn’t your fault – or mine.   You’re a labourer, and don’t belong in here, selling milk and bread.
"Her guttering is like Niagara Falls!"
Debbie would appreciate it too – her guttering is like Niagara Falls!   It would do you good to get back into the routine.”
Jim simply replies that he is not ready, and Dai storms out of the shop.
"You went without saying a word!"
Hywel is in the street when his phone rings;  “What do you mean – a clear head?   Esther’s OK – she’s with Elinor, but you went without saying a word!”   Then Sheryl ends the call, just as Hywel sees Anita’s car arriving.
Do-it-yourself – a woman of many talents
Kelly has completed fitting a security chain to the front door of number 10,
Kevin arrives in front of an audience
so that when Anita and Kevin alight from the car and try to open it, they cannot.
"Come on, Kelly, open this door!"
As Anita shouts for Kelly to let them in, they are watched by Dai and Hywel from across the road.
"There are some dark clouds gathering above"
“There are some dark clouds gathering above,” prophesies Dai, and shouts to Kevin, “Don’t you have an armed escort?”
Kelly tries to ignore Kevin
When Anita and Kevin finally get in, Kelly ignores them;  Kevin thanks her for agreeing he could stay, but she snaps, “It’s Auntie Anita’s house!”   He goes upstairs for a shower,
"I can't remember agreeing to a chain"
and Anita comments that she cannot remember agreeing to a chain being fitted.
“Better security, cheaper house insurance!” answers Kelly, “I don’t want him coming and going as he pleases!”   Anita foresees problems ahead.
Ed has made coffee for Sioned
Ed has made Sioned a cup of coffee;  “I didn’t know what to get you – see, you put the pods in here.”
"You're forgiven – this time"
She remarks dismissively that she has seen one before.   After he has apologised again about her injured arm, she informs him, “You’re forgiven – this time.”   Then she tries the coffee,
"It's all right – a bit weak maybe"
her verdict being, “It’s all right – a bit weak maybe – buy a stronger brand next time!”
"It's strange not having him here"
Anita is cooking when Kevin comes downstairs and looks at a photo of Meic;  “It’s strange not having him here,” he says, “I wish I had better memories of him.”
"Welcoming committee perhaps?"
There is a knock on the door, and as Anita goes to answer it, Kelly remarks, “Welcoming committee perhaps?”
Diane does not even want to look at him
It is Diane, and as soon as she sees Kevin, she wants to continue her conversation with Anita outside.
"Thanks for warning me he was coming back!"
“Thanks for warning me he was coming back!” Diane snarls, but Anita points out that Sheryl was willing to give him a second chance,
"It's what Meic would have wanted"
and it is what Meic would have wanted.   “You don’t really want him here, do you?” demands Diane, “Before the court case, you begged me not to put a roof over his head — and you were right!”
"I'm trying to make an effort here"
Inside, Kelly is keeping an eye on the cooking;  “Is there anything I can help you with?” Kevin asks, “Look, I am trying to make an effort here.”
“Well don’t, OK?” is Kelly’s response, “Just so you know, there are locks on my bedroom door, and Auntie Anita’s – in case you get any funny ideas!   The only reason I agreed to stay was that I didn’t want Auntie Anita alone with you!”
"Every woman should have one!"
As Anita comes back in, Kelly produces from her bag two rape alarms;  “Every woman should carry one – it’s important to feel safe, especially on dark nights!”
"I'm quite safe here"
As Kelly is going out, Anita assures her she will be perfectly safe in the house.
"Sorry, I'm making life difficult"
Kevin realises he is making life difficult;  “Kelly can’t bear the fact that I’m here, nor Diane, come to that.”   Anita seems confident that not everyone will feel the same way.
Debbie is keeping out of Kevin's way
In the café, Debbie tells Dai that she is keeping well out of Kevin’s way.
"You're better off without him"
As Sioned leaves the café, Kelly demands, “Why are you letting him stay?   You’re better off without him.”   Upon hearing that Ed has changed and that he deserves a second chance, Kelly says, “You sound exactly like Auntie Anita now!   Don’t kid yourself – if he’s hit you once . . .”
"Everything will be all right"
Sioned however is sure that everything is going to be all right.
"Jim's as stubborn as a mule!"
Diane finds Dai in the café, where he says that Jim is as stubborn as a mule, so Diane resolves to sort him out.
"We need another pair of hands"
Jim is sitting on the other side of the café and she tells him that they are very busy at the yard and need another pair of hands.
“He just wants a servant!” moans Jim, “I’m not anyone’s lapdog!
"I want to wash my hands of the place!"
I told you I don’t want to be part of APD any more – you’re welcome to buy my share, but I want to wash my hands of the place!”   So saying, he walks out, and Dai congratulates Diane on sorting it out.
Debbie keeps number 10 under surveillance
Debbie shepherds them out and closes the café, keeping a careful eye on number 10, just across the road.
In the Deri, Hywel and Kelly are both looking depressed;
"I nearly didn't go and pick him up"
Anita comes in and admits to Kelly that she almost get cold feet this morning.   “I was worried that I’m being unfair on you – but Meic forgave him, and this is what he would want.”
"Meic isn't here any more!"
Again Kelly stresses that Meic is no longer here;  “You’re the one that matters – and what you think is right!”
"He ought to be given a chance"
Anita argues that Kevin has been punished for what he did, and he should be given a chance.
"Sheryl's gone away!"
Hywel comes over from the other end of the bar;  “I just wanted you to know, Sheryl’s gone away – it doesn’t matter where, does it?
"I hope you're proud of yourself!"
I know it’s because Kevin’s back!   I hope you’re proud of yourself!”
"See – he's only been back five minutes!"
“See – he’s only been back five minutes, and already he’s causing ructions!” observes Kelly.
Hywel strides from the Deri . . .
Hywel walks purposefully across to the door of number 10,
. . . and hammers on the door of number 10
and hammers on it, shouting, “Kevin, open this door!”   Kevin gingerly opens it, on the chain, but Hywel, with his rugby-playing muscle, barges in.
"Think you're safe with a pathetic little chain?"
“Think you’re safe, do you, with a pathetic little chain on the door?   You’re not safe in Cwmderi!”
"I think you should leave!"
Kevin suggests that he should leave, but Hywel continues, “No – you’re going to leave – this house and this village!”   Kevin asserts that he has paid for what he did.
"I'll make your life hell!"
“You haven’t started yet!” is Hywel’s angry retort, “If you’re stupid enough to stay here, I’ll make your life hell!   Stay away from Sheryl – do you hear me?
"Go near her – and you'll regret it!"
If you go near her, you’ll regret it!”
