Outside the café, Kevin is on his phone; he says, “I’m bringing it forward to tomorrow – an opportunity has come up which makes it easier for us.

“Make sure it’s all ready at your end.”
Ricky comes out of the café and tries to ignore Kevin;

| Ricky does not want to talk to Kevin |
“I’m in a hurry – I’m going to Cardiff with Mam!” he says, as Debbie rushes up and asks Kevin if he is trying to spoil everyone’s Christmas.

| "I'm just getting on with my life" |
He replies that he is simply getting on with his life.

| "Well, get on with it somewhere else!" |
“Well, get on with it somewhere else! “Come on, Ricky!” she growls, and hurries away.
Anita is packing in her bedroom when Kelly comes in

and excitedly asks, “What do you think? Online purchase – very Bali, isn’t it?”

| She is very uncomfortable when Kevin appears |
At this point Kevin walks in to ask if they want breakfast; Kelly is very embarrassed and rushes back to her own room.

Anita looks at her jewellery box and concludes that she will not be wanting its contents, as she will be on the beach all day.

Kevin agrees that they will be safer at home, and announces he is making scrambled eggs, and smoked salmon for breakfast.

Britt is speaking on the phone to Garry, who does not think it is a good idea for Chester to join him,

but Chester protests that he would not need looking after. When Colin tries to comment, he is told, “You don’t know anything about it!”

but Colin insists that it is obvious Garry does not think it is the right time for him to be there.

| "If you can't cope with Christmas at Cwmderi . . ." |
Britt tells Chester, “Stop being so rude and unreasonable! If you can’t cope with Christmas in Cwmderi, what chance is there for you among refugees living in tents?” Chester decides he is going out.

Colin hopes that he is not making life difficult for Chester by living there, and offers to move out if that is what he wants;

Chester replies that he will think about it.

Britt has a different opinion; “You’re not moving out because he says so!” Colin maintains that with Chester, the tighter the shackles, the greater his need to rebel.

Anita and Kelly have eaten their breakfast when Kevin produces Christmas presents for them;

Kelly’s is a book, which she seems genuinely excited about,

whereas he gives Anita a frame containing multiple photographs of her and Meic.

“I started to collect the photos before going over the wall – it was for you and Dad, to say sorry!”

While Anita is overjoyed, Kelly looks suspiciously at Kevin.

Anita reveals that she has booked a turkey from Penrhewl for Kevin, and there will be a supermarket delivery of food and drink for him.

Then she adds another surprise to the list, which she has not discussed with Kelly; “I’ve decided you can live here for as long as you like!”
Kelly objects to this, but Anita continues, “You need somewhere to stay!”

Kevin goes out, as he is aware that they need to talk.

As soon as he is gone, Kelly bursts out, “I’m moving out, Auntie Anita – I understand you want to give him a chance,

“but there is no way I can sleep under the same roof as a rapist any longer than necessary!”

| "Why don't you disappear?" |
Hywel comes out of the shop with Esther, and Kevin remarks that she is the spitting image of him. “Why don’t you disappear?” demands Hywel, “You don’t have any friends here, no work – nothing!”

When Kevin discloses that Anita has invited him to stay permanently, Hywel cannot believe it. “You’re not going to accept?

“Don’t you have any shame, after what you did to Sheryl? Or do you get a kick out of making her suffer?”
Kevin maintains that he and Sheryl understand each other, which infuriates Hywel;

“I don’t believe any woman would be OK about what you did!”
Kevin’s retort is, “You and your sort make me sick! You’ve all caused people to suffer and ruined lives – you think because it’s done behind the walls of respectable middle-class lives you can fool yourselves that you’re still a pillar of the community!

He walks away and into the café;

as no-one is looking, he goes into the kitchen

and finds some keys, hidden in an empty tin. “Well done, Deb, you never change!” he mutters, and when the waitress comes in, he says that he lost his way.

Hywel goes to Anita’s, where Kelly is on her own, demanding, “Is it true you invited him to stay here?” Kelly points out that Anita did, but she is moving out.
“She’s not thinking straight – thinks he’s a changed man!” says Kelly,

and Hywel describes him as a very bitter man, talking about everyone getting their just deserts.

“He hasn’t shown that side to Anita,” replies Kelly.
Hywel goes on, “He’s a dangerous man – if he wanted to make amends, he’d stay away. Somehow we have to get rid of him!”

Chester is sitting alone in the Deri, and beyond him are a party of four, celebrating noisily,
but they go quiet when Kevin walks in.

After buying a pint, he sits by Chester; “You’ve just come out, haven’t you, from the naughty boys’ home? It’s difficult to settle back in, especially when you’re not invited to Christmas parties. Don’t kid yourself – you’ll never be accepted after being in prison.”

Chester argues that it depends on the crime, then decides it is time he left. “What did you do?

“Oh yes, set fire to the chapel,” says Kevin, but Chester points out that he was going through a bad time and is really ashamed. “You’ll get used to the shame,” Kevin predicts.

Colin is relaxing, watching a film for the fifth time, when Chester comes in, rather subdued;

he asks Colin what he thinks of Kevin.

“Not a lot, to be honest,” is the reply, “I know he’s paid for what he did, but no-one knows the lasting effects on the victim, do they?”

Chester wonders if people regard him in the same way as Kevin;

“Of course not,” reassures Colin, “What Kevin did is one of the worst crimes. You did something stupid and paid the price –

Colin recalls that he burnt down the shed when he was twelve;

Chester mentions that he does not want Colin to leave, eliciting the reply,

Kevin receives a phone call, as he replaces papers in the drawer at number 10;

“Yes, they’re leaving tomorrow, but I’m not sending the money until they’re on the plane. Yes, I’m fine – I have to go – we’ll talk tomorrow!”

Britt arrives home and is invited by Chester to come and sit down;

“Why are you in such a good mood?” she demands. Chester says that he is just happy to be home, and has been thinking about the tablet;

he wants Catrin to have it, as he hasn’t touched it.

“Are you playing a joke on us or what?” snarls Britt, “You hated us this morning and wanted to move out – now you’re acting like a Stepford Wife!”

Seeing Chester’s confusion, Colin explaims that it is a film where the wives turn into robots.

“Nothing is going on – I’m sorry for the way I’ve behaved,” confesses Chester, “I’m not doing it in order to go to Greece – I am sorry, especially for the way I’ve been with Colin.”

They all sit on the sofa, with Britt still looking incredulous.

Anita comes home, where Kevin has prepared another meal, lasagne this time.

“Something is wrong,” she says, “You haven’t beeen yourself since I invited you to live here.”

Kevin looks tearful and explains, “I don’t have anything – I don’t want to have to live here as a lodger. I worked hard for Dad, building the business –

“this is supposed to be my home – and my café across the road. I don’t want to sound ungrateful, but I had to tell someone. I know my father had a right to do what he wanted with his property.”

Anita believes that Meic might not want to do the same now; “I believe he’d want to help you start again. What if I put the house in both our names?

“I’d still want to live here, but if you wanted to sell your half for the money, I’d buy you out. I’ll go and see the solicitor in the New Year – I’m sure we can draw up a fair agreement.”
