The hotel – part of Gwyneth's plan
Siôn and Gwyneth arrive at the posh hotel.
"It's beautiful, like you!"
Siôn is highly impressed;  “It’s beautiful, like you!” he simpers.
Cadno collects her 'favours'
In the shop, Eileen gives the box of favours for the wedding to Cadno, and advises her that the hen night is tonight.
Cadno is filled with enthusiasm . . .
Cadno is not at all keen on it, but Eileen tells her that it is all organised,
. . . when she is told of this spa
“You’re going to a spa, have a jacuzzi, sauna, massage and manicure — so don’t forget your swimsuit.” Eileen then instructs DJ to make sure she is at the Deri in half an hour.
Iolo is enjoying the experience, until he learns . . .
Iolo and Tyler also arrive at the hotel, then meet Siôn and Gwyneth on the stairs.   Siôn thinks this is an amazing coincidence,
. . . it has been engineered by Gwyneth
but Gwyneth enlightens him;  “Not exactly – they’re not with us on Christmas Day, so I thought we could spend some time together now!
"Did you know about this?"
Iolo is far from happy about this, and demands if Tyler knew about it;
"Of course he did!"
“Of course he did,” announces Gwyneth, “See you in the restaurant in half an hour.
They await the bride-to-be
In the Deri, Eileen, Sioned and Kelly are waiting for Cadno to arrive;
Kelly persuades Eifion to join them
Eifion comments that they do not need him hanging around, and Eileen replies that they do not need a cockerel at their hen night.   However, Kelly persuades Eifion that he should join them.
"Do I look like a sauna and manicure kind of woman?"
Cadno is still moaning when she comes in, “Do I look like a sauna and manicure kind of woman?   That must be Sioned’s idea.”
"Surprise!"
Suddenly she hears the shout of, “Surprise!” behind her;  “Did you think we’d drag you to a spa?   We’ll have a couple of pints and put the world to rights.”   DJ admits he was aware of what would happen,
"What's he doing here?"
but wonders what Eifion is doing there.
Kelly maintains that he is a mate, so why not;  “I wish I was friends with my exes,” she insists.   DJ is not happy with being sent home to put the boys to bed, leaving Cadno with Eifion.
"Why didn't you warn me?"
Iolo is also most put out;  “I can’t believe this – why didn’t you warn me?”   Tyler replies that Gwyneth told him to keep quiet,
"We take notice of what Gwyneth says now, do we?"
so Iolo snaps, “Oh, we take notice of what Gwyneth says now, do we?”
"She wants us all to get along"
“She wants us all to get along,” replies Tyler, “You’re annoyed, but think of your father – you saw how happy he was downstairs.   I’ve never seen him smile like that.   It’s only for one night – don’t spoil it for him.”
The wine has just arrived
Siôn and Gwyneth are at the table, where the wine is being poured,
"I couldn't think of a better surprise!"
and Siôn says, “I couldn’t think of a better surprise!”
"Got to be at Llanarthur at seven in the morning, Dad!"
Iolo and Tyler join them but Iolo refuses any wine,
Gwyneth is concerned that Iolo is derailing her plan
as he insists they have to be at a job in Llanarthur at seven in the morning, meaning they will have to leave the hotel by six.
Siôn maintains that this will not stop them enjoying the evening;  “This menu is outstanding!” he enthuses, “I had no idea about this evening, how about you, Iolo?”
"Can't trust that Gwyneth!"
Iolo tells him that it simply means they cannot trust Gwyneth and Tyler, and looks askance at her.
"Perfect – not a sauna in sight!
In the Deri, Cadno, wearing a wedding head-dress and a ‘D’ plate, regards this celebration as, “Perfect – not a sauna in sight!”
"I'll do your bouquets"
When Eileen offers to make the wedding bouquets, Cadno replies that she has asked Diane to do them, as she insisted on doing something.
"Well, if you want them to look awful!"
“That’s OK,” says Eileen, “If you want the bouquets to look awful, that’s up to you!”   Then, asked if she has any advice for the bride-to-be, Eileen goes on, “You need to be nice to each other – and make sure that everything’s right upstairs!”
"Mam!   Do you have to?"
Sioned finds this rather distasteful, and so her mother points out, “Just because we’re getting older doesn’t mean . . . ”
"All relationships have their ups and downs"
Sioned interrupts to give her own advice, that Cadno should realise that all relationships have their ups and downs.   Eileen adds that everyone is bound to find their right person in the end;
"Usually the right person is right under your nose"
“Usually they’re right under your nose,” which makes Cadno uncomfortable, as she glances at Eifion.
"How are things, Sioned?"
As Kelly goes to the bar for another round, she asks Sioned how things are.
"He's a really good actor"
“Ed’s really enjoying the panto – he’s a very good actor!” she replies, “Things have not been so good for a while.   We’re spending Christmas together, just the two of us.”
Kelly is very concerned
Kelly doubts whether this is wise, and worries because she will be in Bali;  “I don’t need a babysitter!   Everything’s fine, honestly!” states Sioned.
Siôn praises the hotel
Siôn is full of gushing praise for the hotel during the meal, but suddenly begins choking;  “It’s that chilli!” he croaks,
A glass of water sorts him out
and Gwyneth gives him a glass of water.
She chides him, “Gwern can eat spicier food than you!”
He remembers when Macs graduated
He recalls the meal they had after Macs graduated, when he bit into a chilli and his mouth was on fire.
"I shall have to give you baby food!"
Gwyneth teases that they will have to serve him with baby food,
She thinks her plan is working perfectly
and when Iolo laughs at this, she thinks that her ‘softening-up’ plan is working.
Eifion is enjoying being with Cadno
In the Deri, Cadno tells Eifion, “I hope you haven’t been bored with all these women,”
"You'll soon be Mrs Ashurst"
but he replies this is the last chance they will have to drink together before she becomes Mrs Ashurst.   “But I shall always be Cadno,” she replies, “Getting married will not change that.”
“Why get married then?” he enquires, and she tells him that they both love each other and want to spend the rest of their lives together.
"Sit closer to Eifion!"
Eileen and Sioned return with the next round of drinks and Eileen wants to take some photos.   “Sit closer to Eifion,” she tells Cadno, who looks uncomfortable at the prospect.
DJ looks at the order of service . . .
At Penrhewl, DJ looks wistfully at the wedding order of service,
. . . then heads towards his bed
then rather mournfully turns out the light and goes to bed.
Cadno is becoming rather drunk by this time;  Eileen says it is time for bed, and Kelly is glad to have had a break from the house for a while.
Cadno is unsteady on her feet, to say the least
Cadno has difficulty standing up, and Eifion volunteers to take her home.
"I don't expect us to be best mates"
Iolo has been to the hotel bar for cocktails, where Gwyneth joins him and says, “I don’t expect us to be best mates, but you’re willing to make an effort, and I appreciate that.”
"At least, Dad's happy!"
He replies that at least his Dad is happy.
"Your Dad understands me"
She continues, “I know you’d never choose me as his partner – I don’t blame you, as I have baggage, history, and I’m not proud of what I’ve done.   But your Dad understands me – he’s been there himself, and this is my chance to prove to you that we can be happy together.”
Surely Iolo has not been taken in by this?
Iolo appears to be taken in by this, and actually shakes her hand;  she thinks that she has won.
Cadno is now managing to stay upright
Eifion and Cadno arrive at the farm, and she says she is glad that he was there at the Deri;
Eifion searches for biscuits
she makes him a coffee, as the fresh air on the way home seems to have sobered her.
"Cor – this has quite a kick!"
As Siôn is trying his cocktail, which seems to have quite a kick, the waitress brings champagne,
"No, that must be for someone else"
which he thinks should be for another table.
Gwyneth is about to unleash her masterstroke . . .
Gwyneth announces, “There’s one last surprise for you, Siôn.   I wanted to ask you . . . to marry me.”
. . . which takes Siôn by surprise
Siôn is taken aback by this, but Iolo is horrified;
"You are joking, aren't you?"
“You are joking, aren’t you?” he demands.   Gwyneth replies that she is not, so Iolo tells his father, “You can’t marry her, after all she’s done!”   Gwyneth admits that they have had problems, but have sorted them out.
"She's only after your money, Dad!"
“She’s only after your money, Dad – I’m not keeping quiet just because we’re in public!”
Gwyneth insists, “I had given up on finding love – I didn’t think I wanted a partner, but then I found you!” Iolo cannot believe that his father is taken in by that, and Siôn simply appears confused.
Eifion and Cadno chat over coffee
As Eifion is given his coffee, he says, “It’s hard to believe you’re getting married!
"Do you think if we had married . . .?"
“Do you think, if we married, things would have turned out the same?”   She considers that it would have changed nothing, and mentions constantly having to unblock the shower.
"I like the way things are now"
She prefers the way things are now.
DJ comes in . . .
DJ has come downstairs, and Eifion explains that he walked Cadno home as she had consumed one too many.
. . . and appears to be waiting for Eifion to go
DJ thanks him for bringing her home, and Eifion leaves, predicting that it will be a day to remember.
"Stop it, Iolo!"
Gwyneth begs Iolo to stop his diatribe;
"Going to have another 'panic attack?"
“What are you going to do?   Have another ‘panic attack’?” he demands.
"This is our chance to be happy together"
“Your Dad knows I’m sorry – and we’ve moved on.   That’s why I love you!” she gushes, “I don’t have to deny who I am when I’m with you.   We’ve both done stupid things – that’s why we work – we understand each other.   You and me, Siôn – this is our chance to be happy together!”
"Is that what you call marrying a murderer?"
Iolo cannot contain his rage;  “Happy – is that what you call marrying a murderer?   It’s true, isnt it – you can’t deny that’s what she is?”
"That's enough, Iolo!"
Siôn tells him that he has gone too far and orders him out.
Gwyneth is scared that her scheme has gone pear-shaped
As Iolo and Tyler watch from the door, Siôn addresses Gwyneth, “Yes, it’s true we’ve both done stupid things – but this is not one of them!   So, yes – of course I’ll marry you!”
But no – Siôn has fallen for it, hook, line and sinker
As Iolo protests, “Dad, don’t, please!” Tyler hustles him out, while Siôn and Gwyneth embrace.
