For callousness, Nansi takes some beating

Nansi relieves the unconscious Anita of her locket, while Kevin demands if she has no shame. “You can’t leave her lying there!” he exclaims, but she asks if he wants to spend another Christmas in jail.

They are in a hurry to leave

As they are about to escape via the back door, Jason is knocking at the front.

"I don't know what came over me!"

Cadno chases DJ out of Bethania, pleading, “I don’t know what came over me!”

"You could have told him where to go – but you didn't!"

DJ considers that it is quite obvious, adding that she could have told Eifion where to go – but she did not, and that they deserve each other.

Eifion has also come out of the chapel and rather lamely tells her that he is sorry, and that they can work this out.

"What planet are you on?"

“What planet are you on?” she demands, “You’ve done some horrible things, but I’ll never forgive you for this! Go to hell!”

Dai looks determined to 'have a go'

Dai is eager to go and sort out Eifion, but Diane restrains him. Jason asks Eifion what he has done now,

"I was on my feet before I knew it!"

and when given the details, he comments,

"Blimey! You've got guts!"

“Blimey! You’ve got guts, I’ll say that!” Eifion predicts that he has done it this time, and Jason is inclined to agree.

"We can go back and get married!"

Round in the back street, by the bins, Cadno wails, “You’re the one I love, and I’ll prove that – everyone is still there, waiting. We can go back and get married – it’s not too late.”

"I've seen the way you look at each other!"

DJ replies, “Yes, it is! I knew you had feelings for Eifion – I’ve seen the way you look at each other! Don’t make this more difficult – just accept the truth.”

"You're the one I love!"

She again shouts that he is the one she loves,

DJ strides away (looking, for all the world, like an undertaker)

as he walks off, past Gwynfor’s workshop.

"You want a photo – or what?"

Kevin comes round the corner, on his way back to number 10, but soon makes himself scarce when challenged by Cadno, “You want a photo – or what?”

Jason knocks on the door again . . .

As Jason passes number 10’s front door he hears a phone ringing inside, and again knocks.

. . . while Kevin is on the phone to him mother

By this time Kevin is checking Anita again, and the phone call is from Nansi, wondering where he is, as she wants to make good her escape.

Kevin goes on about his mother suffering a fall . . .

At last he opens the door very slightly, and mumbles a tale to Jason about his Mam falling and hurting herself, so he must rush to North Wales.

. . . which does not make a lot of sense to Jason

Jason appears confused about this.

"Sorry, Mrs P"

Inside, Kevin kisses the prostrate figure, says, “Sorry, Mrs P,” picks up his bag and leaves by the back door.

"Things were good between us"

Jim returns to his prisoner; Ricky suggests, “The things she says in the diary are good, aren’t they? Things were good between us.”

"Well, why didn't she tell you she was pregnant?"

When asked why Courtney did not tell him she was pregnant, Ricky imagines that she was scared that he would not stay with her;

"I thought more of her than that!"

“But I would – she meant more to me than that!”

"Let's see how you like being scared!"

Jim is convinced that she did not trust Ricky and was scared; “What I want now is to see how you like being scared!” he snarls, “Then you’ll know exactly how Courtney felt. It’s getting cold, and it will be a lot colder by the morning –

Jim leaves him to freeze . . .

“I’m going home for a hot cup of tea!”

As Jim walks away, a siren can be heard, and so he returns,

. . . but in a few seconds is back again

accusing Ricky of calling the police. Ricky points out that he now has no phone, and as the sound of the siren comes nearer, he shouts for help.

"I'll come in there and strangle you!"

Jim warns him, “Shut up, or I will come in there and strangle you!”

Ricky asks what people will do when he is found, as it will be obvious who put him there. Jim’s answer is, “I shall say I caught you stealing fireworks from the store –

"You stole Courtney from me!"

“that’s what you Joneses do – steal things – and you stole Courtney from me! If you haven’t frozen by the morning, you’ll be locked up like your father – you’re no better than him!”

Things have gone quiet, so Jim goes to investigate, seeing the ambulance outside number 10.

Ricky looks at the fireworks locker

Meanwhile, Ricky investigates the fireworks locker.

The ambulance crew check Anita

As two ambulance personnel check Anita, Dani reveals that someone called the Deri to tip them off. Diane comes in the back door, and immediately suspects Kevin, but is told by Jason that Anita may have fallen down the stairs.

"And Santa Claus phoned for the ambulance, did he?"

“Yes, and Santa Claus phoned for the ambulance, did he?” she asks. As Anita is beginning to stir, it is agreed that Jason will go in the ambulance with her.

Surely Nansi realises this money will be easy to trace

In her bedroom (in the Deri?) Nansi is in the process of the online bank transfer of £10,000 from Anita’s account to hers. She looks excited when Kevin comes in and tells her that he called an ambulance. “Look what I’ve done!” she brags,

"There's £10,000 sitting in my account!"

“The silly cow put her passwords in a file – and now there’s £10,000 sitting in my account.”

"Are you stupid?"

Kevin shouts at her, “Put it back now! Are you stupid? We left her there not moving – we don’t know whether she is alive or dead!”

"I'm going to Crymych with Mam"

At Penrhewl, DJ comes in with his bags and informs Cadno that he is not going to stay at Bryntirion, but will go with his mother back to Crymych.

"Please don't hate me!"

She begs him not to hate her, and he confesses that he could never do that; “I’ll always love you, but you’ve had your chance!” he says.

"Don't you dare phone this house again!"

There is an incoming phone call, and as soon as Cadno hears Eifion’s voice leaving a message, she tells him, “Which part of ‘I don’t want anything to do with you!’ don’t you understand? Don’t you dare phone this house again – or I’ll report you for harassment!”

"We want to be left alone"

DJ then takes the phone and adds, “We want to be left alone, Eifion – you owe us that, surely!” Seeing that Cadno’s hands are trembling,

"I'll make us a quick meal"

DJ asks when she last had a meal, and decides he will make them something quick, “And then I’m leaving.”

Eifion has really blown it this time

Eifion sits at the bottom of the stairs in tears,

He looks wistfully at Cadno's photo

looking at photos of Cadno on his phone.

Ricky accesses some heavy-duty pyrotechnics

At APD, Ricky has forced open the fireworks cabinet, and Jim warns him to put down the rocket he is carrying, as it is dangerous.

"When it goes off, someone will save me!"

“Yes, and when it goes off, someone will save me!” replies Ricky. Jim decides to go in there, via the roller shutter inside the shop, arming himself with a yellow plastic shovel.

"Neither do I – but she liked me!"

He tells Ricky he does not know what Courtney saw in him; “Neither do I,” says Ricky, “But she liked me!” Jim accuses him of forcing himself upon her, and he insists, “I would never do that to her!”

Diane discovers the situation . . .

At this point, Diane comes in through the front door

Does Ricky appreciate that the hot stuff comes out the back of a rocket?

and sees the standoff between the large rocket and the plastic shovel.

Then the shovel is turned on Diane . . .

She is sure that Courtney would not want this, but Jim answers, “You don’t know that – we’ll never know that!”

. . . and now he has the two of them at shovel-point

As he threatens the two of them, Dani arrives, telling Diane that if she cannot find her keys, she should borrow Dani’s car.

"This won't bring her back!"

She advises Jim, “This isn’t the way – this won’t bring her back! You’re better than this!”

Jim goes berserk in a moment of madness . . .

Flailing with the shovel, Jim wildly sweeps stock off the shelves,

. . . and Dani can sympathise with what he is going through

and the others take cover. Then he flings the shovel to the floor,

Distraught, he falls to his knees

and sinks to his knees in tears.

"Ooh, my head!"

At the hospital, Anita has come round and complains of the pain in her head.

"Is this to do with Kevin?"

Jason asks if Kevin is connected with this, and she says that she tripped over a corner of the carpet which curls up.

She searches for her locket . . .

He goes to find a nurse, and she feels round her neck for the locket;

. . . and realises what has happened to it

discovering that it has gone, she cries.

Dani remembers what it was like to lose Brandon

As they sit on the floor of APD, amidst the debris, Dani remembers, “After losing Brandon, I hated waking up in the middle of the night – I was fine one minute, and the next it would hit me that I’d never see him again!”

"One last cwtch – that's all I wanted!"

“One last cwtch – that’s all I wanted!” whimpers Jim. Dani misses Brandon’s laugh, and Jim agrees, “His laugh filled the room.”

"You will be happy one day"

“But I’m happy – most of the time – and you will be too,” Dani goes on,

Jim does not look entirely convinced

“With Eileen at your side, friends, lads at the rugby club, people who love you – things will get better.”

"You can ring the police from home"

Diane will take Ricky home and suggests that he can phone the police from there, but he flatly refuses to involve any police. Diane points out that Jim is not normal, and needs help,

"We're going to help him"

but Dani maintains that they will help him.

"I don't want them knowing everything about us"

Ricky is determined not to tell the police, “Everything about Courtney and me – and stuff!”

"Oh Jason, I had a puncture"

Diane receives a call from Jason, saying that Anita needs her at the hospital, and she lies that she had a puncture, but is now on her way.

"Yes, he's going to be OK"

Ricky is anxious whether Jim will be OK, but Dani is confident that he will be.

Diane reaches the hospital

At the hospital, as Diane is speaking to Anita, Jason has a call from Kevin, who wants to know if Anita is all right.

Jason asks why he did not say that Anita was on the floor just inside the door,

"You would blame me and call the cops"

the answer being that he would have been blamed for it.

Anita does not want to talk to him

Anita refuses to speak to Kevin.

Despite Diane’s suspicion that Kevin was involved, Jason reiterates the curled-up carpet story.

"She's alive, so we can celebrate!"

Back in the hotel bedroom, Nansi announces, “She’s alive – so we can celebrate!” Kevin considers that a Christmas on the run is not something to celebrate,

"I'm not going straight back to prison!"

and does not wish to come out of one prison, to go straight back into another. “This is going to be a Christmas to remember!” Nansi tells him.

"That was a farewell meal – you know that"

As they finish the meal, Cadno remarks that it was the best meal he has ever made for them. “That was a farewell meal – you know that,” he replies. She argues that they are a good team,
