11 November 2016

Eifion leaves the house, only to be . . .
Eifion walks out of his front door and encounters Vicky;  she greets him with, “You should be ashamed to show your face in Cwmderi!   Don’t look so innocent – taking advantage of a schoolgirl!”
. . . subjected to the wrath of Vicky
When he protests that he did no such thing, she goes on, “She’s not here to defend herself!”   He demands where she heard this rubbish, and she answers, “In the Deri – everyone knows about you!”
"Jim suspects Eifion is the father"
Sioned has just heard from her mother that Jim has banned Eifion from the funeral, as he is suspected of being the baby’s father.
"Well, it does make sense"
“It makes sense – she did like him,” she comments,
"He wouldn't do something like that!"
but Ed cannot see him doing something like that.   “I’m glad we don’t live there any more – not only grieving, but Jim angry with Eifion,” says Sioned.
Sara is back from hospital
Sara has just arrived home from hospital,
Hywel and Sheryl are on their way to the cemetery
and outside the house meets Hywel and Sheryl as they are going to lay flowers on Meilyr’s grave, on the anniversary of his death.
Jason is looking forward to being a father
“I can’t wait until this little one pops out!” Jason says, and Sheryl wonders if the bump and Esther might be best friends one day.
"Everyone knows!"
At Penrhewl, Eifion tells Cadno that everyone now knows about Jim’s suspicions;  “They all see me as scum!” he laments.
"They won't believe 'Jim's Bonkers Theory'!"
Cadno cannot credit that people will believe ‘Jim’s Bonkers Theory’.   They like to kick a man when he’s down,” continues Eifion,
"I met Vicky in the village"
“I met Vicky in the village and she more or less spat in my face!”
Diane cooks French Onion soup
Diane is cooking French Onion soup, Jason’s favourite, and she worries about Sara;  “I’m so glad she’s all right,” she says,
A cwtch from Dai
and Dai gives her a cwtch.
"I feel nervous about going to see her"
“But I feel nervous about going to see her, as it was my fault she walked off.   I’d like to forget, but I don’t think I can – she might be waiting for me to say something.”
"Sara won't bear a grudge"
Dai assures her that Sara will not bear a grudge.
Ed is looking at the laptop
Ed is studying the laptop;  “Going through the prime suspects?   Contemplating who the father could be – if not Eifion?” enquires Sioned.   He is in fact looking at Courtney’s social media pages to see if there is any mention of him;
"About Dewi or Gwyneth, you mean!"
“About Dewi or Gwyneth, you mean,” she comments.
"I would have heard by now"
He is confident that he can find no references, and concludes that if there were, he would have heard by now.   “It was fortunate that her phone was destroyed,” says Sioned, “I think we can start to relax about Courtney.”
"I'm afraid it was my fault"
As soon as she and Dai reach the house, Diane admits to Sara, “It has been weighing on my mind and keeping me awake – I’m afraid it was my fault you were knocked down.
"I made that comment without thinking"
“I made that comment without thinking, about drinking while you were pregnant – and then you walked off in a temper, just as the car came round the corner.”
Jason is dismissive of her argument;
"So if you hadn't argued . . .?"
“So if you hadn’t argued, Sara wouldn’t have been knocked down?”
"You opened your big mouth in the Deri!"
“You were in the Deri last night – and opened your big mouth about Eifion and Courtney!” complains Cadno, but DJ maintains that he cannot see anything wrong in that,
"Everyone would know next week"
as everyone would know next week when Eifion is not at the funeral.
"Thanks a bunch, DJ!"
Eifion comes into the room;
"I'd never do that to her!"
he snarls at DJ, “I’d never do that to her!”   Trying to restore the peace, Cadno insists that DJ wants to apologise for what he said.
Does he look as if he means it?
Looking very insincere, DJ says, “Yeah, sorry,” but does not convince anyone.
Esther, back from the cemetery
After their visit to the cemetery, Hywel, Sheryl and Esther are in the Deri, where Sheryl cannot believe that Esther is the same age as Meilyr when he died.
"We've got so much to look forward to"
“But now we can think of Esther and the future – we’ve got so much to look forward to,” she tells Hywel.
"What are you staring at?"
Eifion comes in for a pint, and, seeing Sheryl smiling at him, demands, “What are you staring at?   I know you’re all talking behind my back!
"Nobody is staring!"
It’s all lies about me and Courtney!”
Sioned arrives to purchase a bottle of champagne;
"You must have heard Jim's theory"
“Someone’s got reason to celebrate, then,” grumbles Eifion, and Sioned tells him that drinking is not the answer to his problems.   “You must have heard Jim’s theory,” he says,
"Is it true?"
and she immediately asks him if it is true.
“No!   Not that I expect you of all people to believe me!” he exclaims, “Or her either!” as he sees Vicky enter the pub.
"I'm surprised they're serving you!"
Vicky immediately bursts out, “I’m surprised they’re serving you!
"You've put me off having a drink!"
You’ve put me off having a drink!” and walks out again
"I don't blame you for the accident"
Sara assures Diane, “I don’t blame you for the accident – I feel guilty myself for storming off like a five-year-old!”   As the pair of them hug, Jason is pleased to see they have kissed and made up.
Diane is determined that things will be better
“It has shown me what is important in life,” admits Diane, “I know I have got on your nerves in the past, Sara, but I have a second chance now, and I’m going to make a real effort to change.
"It's important that we get on well"
Dai and I are going to be grandparents before long – it’s important that we get on well with our daughter-in-law!”
"Eifion will be heartbroken"
Ed stresses that he has no interest in who the father was, as it will not bring her back, and it is so sad that she died while pregnant.   “Father or not, Eifion will be heartbroken to lose Courtney so young – no wonder he was drinking at lunchtime.   Not going to the funeral will really hurt him.”
"Your secrets went to the grave with Courtney!"
Sioned is characteristically hard-hearted;  “It will punish him for being such a pig!   Anyway, enough about Eifion – it’s time to celebrate!   Your secrets went to the grave with Courtney, thank goodness!”
Ed does not appreciate her attitude . . .
Ed looks with horror
. . . and as for celebrating with champagne . . . well!
as she pours two glasses of champagne.
"What came over you?"
Cadno demands, “What came over you, telling everyone?”   DJ insists he was thinking of her, and maintains that she is wrong about Eifion, as he does not have a good record with young girls.   “But that was a long while ago,” she protests.
"How about those juicy photos of Gaynor?"
DJ points out that it was not long ago that Eifion was taking juicy photos of Gaynor, but she says, “They were private photos of an innocent moment they shared.   Eifion has changed – I know when he’s telling the truth, and it’s about time you accepted it!”
"Well, you two are best friends again!"
Dai and Diane go home, and Jason is pleased that Sara and Diane are best friends again;
"No, I'll do that – you go and rest!"
Sara is about to start the washing-up when Jason insists he will do it, as she should be resting.
"Look at all this post"
She sees the pile of post, and looks at a letter from the Health Board;
"Downs Syndrome?"
“This could be important,” she says, but upon opening it, announces, “The results of the scan indicates I need more tests – it’s possible that the baby has Downs Syndrome!”
Ed declines more champagne,
"I say whether or not you've had enough"
but is told, “I say whether or not you’ve had enough!” as Sioned pours more into his glass, adding, “What’s wrong with you?”   Ed glumly replies that nothing is wrong.
"Now tell me what's wrong!"
She grabs his glass and advises him, “You can have this back when you tell me what is wrong!”
Ed does not want to celebrate Courtney's death
In his usual monotone, Ed answers, “I didn’t like the way you wanted to celebrate Courtney’s death, when you said my secrets were buried with her.”
"Well, I don't regret what I said!"
Sioned emphasises she does not regret what she said, and Ed mumbles, “Sorry.”
"I was talking sense!"
Then he is allowed to have his glass back, as she pronounces, “We’re agreed, then – I was talking sense!”
They face the prospect
Sara muses, “The baby might have Downs Syndrome – then a child with it – and an adult with it.   It had crossed my mind – women ask all sorts of questions when they’re pregnant.”
"How do you feel, Sara?"
Jason enquires how she feels about it, and she replies unequivocally, “I’m going to keep it and love it like any other baby – that’s how I feel.   This might have happened for a reason – it may be our only chance to be parents.
"I hope you feel the same, Jase!"
I hope you feel the same, Jase – you are going to support me, aren’t you?”
He assures her, “Yes, of course – 100%!”
