Jim looks at photos of Courtney . . .
Eileen finds Jim looking at photos of Courtney on his phone,
. . . and Eileen has been doing the same
and admits that she has been doing the same.   “Half the time I don’t know what I’m doing,” he says,
"I feel so guilty!"
“I feel so guilty – the last memory I have of her is having a row about the way she was driving – the fact that she came through the village.”
"Did you try to make her slow down?"
Eileen asks him, “Before the accident, did you try to make her slow down?”   He confirms that he shouted at her to stop, but cannot remember all the details, as if his mind had blanked it out.
"The lst thing I did was argue with her!"
He adds, “That doesn’t change the fact that the last thing I did was argue with her – not being kind and having fun, but bickering and arguing – and I can never change that!   It’s on my mind all the time.   I don’t want a public funeral.”
Eileen points out that is what people will expect and want;
"A private funeral"
“What about what I want?” he demands, “A private funeral – family and close friends only.”
Sioned and Ed look at the café flat
Sioned and Ed are at the café flat;
"We're doing you a favour"
Sioned tells Debbie, “We’re probably doing you a favour – you don’t want the flat empty when you’re living with Mark.”   Debbie bluntly asks her whether she wants the flat, and
"Not for £600 – how about £500?"
Sioned replies, “Not for £600!   How about £500 – we’re not paying any more than that!”
Debbie agrees, but stipulates that she wants the first month in advance, and then every payment in cash.   Sioned wants to move in straight away.
"There was nothing wrong with the car"
Jim has had a phone call from the police, who report that there was nothing wrong with the car, and they will be returning Courtney’s belongings later.
Sioned and Ed come in and announce they have something to tell Jim and Eileen, who immediately asks if she is pregnant.
"What is wrong with you?"
Sioned wonders, “What is wrong with you?”   Always thinking I’m pregnant!”   Jim hopes that it is nothing major, as there is no room in his head for anything else.
"We're moving into the café flat"
“Ed and I are moving into the flat above the café, to give you and Jim time together.   We’ll be going as soon as possible,” Sioned says,
Jim would be glad to see them go
and Jim can see the logic in this, although Eileen is surprised.
"He hates it in prison"
In the café, Britt tells Anita that Chester hates it in the prison;
"That's the whole point!"
Debbie, who is passing, comments, “That’s the whole point – so he comes out a better person!”
Britt is not having this and retaliates, “Being in jail doesn’t help anyone.
"He must be worse – he's seeing you!"
Look at Mark – he came out worse – now he’s started seeing you!”
"Phone them now, Siôn!"
At Y Felin, Siôn is looking at a website on the laptop;  “They’re quite a big company,” says Gwyneth, “Phone them now!”
"I want to give plumbing a shot"
Siôn protests that he does not enjoy translation any more, and would like to give plumbing a shot.   He could get qualifications and do an apprenticeship.
“And how are we supposed to pay the bills while you’re doing that?” she demands, but he points out they will have some money and savings.   “That’s not going to be enough!” she insists,
It looks as if Siôn is capitulating
“Please, just try, and phone them now – the number’s on the screen.”   She hands him the phone.
"Mr Berwyn Watkins, please"
He dials a number and asks, “Can I speak to Mr Berwyn Watkins, please – yes, I’ll hold.”   Gwyneth puts on her coat and goes out;
He had no intention of phoning them
as soon as the door closes, Siôn tosses the phone down on the table.
Courtney's belongings come home
Jim has been given the bags of Courtney’s things, and was told that her phone was destroyed in the accident;
"It won't bring Courtney back, will it?"
he tells Eileen, “It’s just stuff!   It won’t bring Courtney back, will it?”
Then, stopping himself, he apologises to her;  “I shouldn’t shout at you.
"I'm never going to see my little girl again!"
I’m never going to see my little girl again.   I suppose I’d better sort through this,” but Eileen says she will deal with it.
"Chester might be back home soon"
Anita tries to calm things in the café;  “Don’t take any notice of Debbie – she says things without thinking! Chester might be back home soon.”   Britt hopes he will be back by Christmas;  Anita adds, “And he might have changed, and come back a better person.”
"Stuff your doughnut!"
This starts Britt off again;  “Stuff your doughnut!   You’re as bad as Debbie, if not worse!   At least she doesn’t pretend to be nice!”
"You should get things in perspective!"
Anita urges her to put things in perspective, considering what has happened to Courtney, and stresses it is better to be in prison that to be in a coffin.
Eileen finds the incriminating pregnancy test
In the depths of Courtney’s bag, Eileen discovers the positive pregnancy test;
"She couldn't be!"
“She couldn’t be – she didn’t have a boyfriend,” says Jim, “And I thought she was on the pill!”
"She was – and didn't tell anyone"
Eileen muses that she was pregnant and did not tell anyone.
“This is not right!   It isn’t fair!” sobs Jim,
"Why am I still here and Courtney has gone?"
“Why am I still here and Courtney – and the baby – are gone?”
Ricky is similarly devastated
At Maes-y-Deri, Ricky is also looking at photos of Courtney;
"What are you doing here, this time of day?"
he hurriedly hides his phone when Debbie comes in, and tells her he has free lessons.   She complains, “Everyone wants bacon sandwiches and I’ve run out – and the shop is closed!”
She raids the fridge for bacon
as she removes two packs of bacon from the fridge.
"I've lost . . . a friend!"
Ricky, rather emotionally, points out to her, “Eileen’s lost her granddaughter – and I’ve lost . . . a friend!”
"Life must go on"
Debbie gives him a hug and rushes back to the café.
He looks at the photo of Courtney
Ricky looks once more at his phone,
"You wouldn't mind, would you?"
and asks, “You wouldn’t mind, would you, if I told anyone about us?”
When she arrives back at Y Felin, Gwyneth asks how Siôn fared with that company;
"They're giving the job to someone else"
he lies, “They intend to give the job to someone else.”
"I'm worried about the future"
Then Gwyneth begins the next item on her agenda;  “This accident has thrown me – I’m worried about the future.   No-one knows what’s around the corner –
"We should make a new will"
I think we should make a new will.”
"What's the hurry?"
Siôn asks why the rush, as there is plenty of time for that.
“That’s the point – there isn’t!” she protests, “What if something happened to one of us?”
Has he seen through Gwyneth at last?
Siôn insists that she has only just moved back in, and they should get to know each other again first,
She failed this time
which does not please her.
"I saw police hanging round the shop"
In their new abode, Ed remarks that he saw police hanging round the shop;
A sarcastic put-down from Sioned
“I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but they’ve been around since the accident,” replies Sioned, sarcastically.   He surmises that they might want to know about the car and its MOT, when there might have been a mistake made.
Eileen comes visiting
Then Eileen arrives with some more of their belongings;  Sioned points out, “It will be nicer when we put our stamp on the place.   I know you’re disappointed, but we’re only across the road.”
"Any news about the car – or phone?"
Ed is eager to know if there is any news about the car, and her phone.
"Nothing wrong with the car"
“There was nothing wrong with the car, but the phone was destroyed in the accident,” Eileen tells him.
"Want to keep it as a memento or something?"
Sioned glowers at him;  “Do you want to keep the phone as a memento or something?” she snarls.   Eileen reveals she has phoned the coroner to check during the postmortem whether Courtney was pregnant.
Jim is preoccupied
Ricky goes to the shop flat, where Jim is looking at Courtney’s belongings;
"Was Courtney seeing anyone?"
“You might be just the man who can help me,” says Jim, “Do you know if Courtney was seeing anyone – any boyfriend?”
"Sorry, it's not fair to ask you"
Seeing the look on Ricky’s face, he goes on, “Sorry, it’s not fair to ask you, after all, you weren’t that close.
"We think she was pregnant"
The thing is, we think she was pregnant.”
"Pregnant?"
Ricky is confounded by this fact.
Ed cannot stop thinking about Courtney,
"Bet she only slept with him a couple of times"
and Sioned remarks, “I bet she only slept with someone a couple of times – life can be so cruel!”
"You can apologise, if you want"
Ed says that there is one piece of good news – about the car, and invites her to apologise, which of course she does not do.
"Complete independence at last"
“See all the advantages we have here, complete independence at last,” she says, adding,
"Make me a coffee, will you?"
“Make me a coffee, will you – not that rubbish from downstairs, the nice stuff in the cafetière.
"And fetch me a cake!"
But you could go down and fetch me a cake!”
Eileen welcomes Ricky
Eileen gets home to find Ricky there;
"I though he could help me find the swine!"
“I thought he could help me find the swine who did this to Courtney!” growls Jim.
"Could it have been Mathew?"
Eileen wonders if it could have been Mathew, but Ricky says that ended months ago.
"Mathew?   I never knew about him!"
Jim was under the impression that Mathew had been Elliw’s boyfriend, and is angry that he was kept in the dark.   “If I get my hands on the toerag who got Courtney pregnant, I’ll kill him!” he thunders.
Ricky concludes that he had better keep quiet . . .
As Ricky looks increasingly apprehensive, Eileen urges Jim to calm down, and she would appreciate it if Ricky did not mention this to anyone.
. . . in the face of Jim's fury
“I don’t care who knows!” Jim rages, “I might find the pig sooner!”
