Siôn is putting his affairs in order
Siôn, in his dressing gown, is sorting through papers;  “The documents for the house, car insurance, mortgage and life insurance are in here.   I want to get everything in order – I might not get another chance.”
Gwyneth’s remarks go unheeded;  “There’s no point trying to make me feel better – the fact I changed my plea will make no difference in court.
"I buried my head in the sand"
It’s my own fault – I buried my head in the sand for too long.   Iolo did me a favour, and stopped me from living a lie!   Oh, and I’ve contacted the Eisteddfod – I told them I’m not worthy of the honour.”
Gwyneth suggests that they go for a walk, but he insists he has to get this done first.
"There's a load of tiles coming today"
Cadno has bills to be paid, sheep feed to order and a load of tiles arriving, but DJ tells her he has to go out
"I'm meeting an old friend from school"
– to meet an old schoolfriend, he says.   However he will be back later to help.
Britt looks a bit happier today
In the chippy, Sam tells Colin that Britt is celebrating today;  “Yes, I heard about Siôn,” replies Colin.   Britt is glad that she is able to pay attention to her friends now, and invites Colin to meet her in the Deri later.
Colon seems strangely unenthusiastic
He seems rather reluctant, though.
"You don't have to do everything today"
Siôn is now sorting books and insists he will have something to eat when he has finished.   Gwyneth tells him, “You don’t have to do everything today – there is plenty of time before the trial.   Why don’t you go back to bed – you’ve been up all night?”   He replies that he cannot sleep anyway.
Siôn is receiving hate mail
She hands him a letter, and inside he finds the anonymous message – ‘Hypocrite’.   She wants to phone the police,
"It's true, isn't it?"
but Siôn asks, “What is the point?   It’s true, isn’t it?   I don’t have the energy to fight any more!”
Sam's note – intended for Anita
At Awyr Iach, Sam has written a note, ‘Dinner at Llwyncelyn, seven tonight’, and puts it on Anita’s desk.
"It's no joke, raising three children"
He tells Dol that Britt having to raise three children single-handed is no joke.   Dol can sympathise;  “Deb’s father left me – I took her to school one morning, and when I got back, he’d gone!
"Ran away with the butcher's wife, apparently"
Ran away with the butcher’s wife, apparently.   If that Britt has any sense, she’ll take Siôn to the cleaner’s!”
"Don't you have any work to do?"
Anita comes in and rather testily comments, “Don’t you two have any work to do?   If all you’re going to do is gossip, I’m taking this paperwork home!”
"I'll do this at home!"
She picks up some files,
The note falls to the floor . . .
and a piece of paper flutters to the floor.
When Sam answers the phone, about a delivery problem,
. . . whence it is intercepted by Dol
Dol investigates the paper, reads it and puts it in her pocket.
DJ is in fact at Bryntirion, where Diane has cooked a meal;
"How about this for a five star hotel?"
he shows her the five-star hotel in Pembrokeshire where he intends to take Cadno.   “Roof terrace and Turkish bath!” he boasts , and Diane reckons they could have a fortnight in Turkey for that price.
Surely there are no First Class trains to Haverfordwest?
He continues, “Stretch limo to Carmarthen, First Class to Haverfordwest, and a romantic meal!”
"You are rather going over the top"
Diane is of the opinion he is going rather ‘over the top’.   His phone buzzes,
He ignores the phone and starts eating
he sees it is Cadno calling and ignores it;  they begin their meal.
Anita apologises to Sam
Sam visits Anita at home, and she apologises for her bad temper, explaining, “I just feel let down by Siôn – I don’t know if I can ever forgive him!
"Meic would have been in the Deri"
“If he hadn’t stolen that money and lied about it, Meic would have been in the Deri – but with his health failing, he wouldn’t have been able to do anything with it.”
"See you at seven, up at Llwyncelyn?"
Sam says he hopes to see her at Llwyncelyn at seven for a meal and some wine;  she thinks that sounds like a nice idea.
Siôn does not feel like eating
Gwyneth finishes her lunch, but Siôn has hardly touched his;
"Locking yourself in the house won't do you any good"
“Locking yourself in the house for ever won’t do you any good,” she says, “I want you to come for a walk with me.”
He is very downcast;
"I've got nothing left!"
“I’ve got nothing left – my family, friends, chapel and certainly no self-respect.   Before long I won’t even have my freedom!   I’ve lost everything!”
"You've got me – isn't that enough?"
You’ve got me – isn’t that enough?” Gwyneth asks, and when Siôn remains silent, she adds, “Well then, I might as well go too!”
Off she goes . . .
She puts on her coat and leaves.
. . . roujnd to Britt's, where she is not welcome
She goes to Britt’s, where she is not very welcome;  “I need your help –
"I'm worried about Siôn"
I’m worried about Siôn,” she says, but Britt wants nothing to do with him and his problems.   “He won’t eat or sleep, and locks himself away,” pleads Gwyneth.
"What do you expect me to do?"
Britt’s response is, “What do you expect me to do?   It’s his own fault!   It’s time you left – good luck!”
"Phone me back!"
Cadno is still trying to contact DJ;  she leaves him a message, “You said you’d be back by now!   I need help!   The delivery of tiles has been left at the gate, and I want them inside before it rains.   Phone me back!”
Dai's and Diane's wedding photos
Meanwhile, Diane is reminiscing about her wedding, and shows DJ the photos.   He admits that he has missed out so much on his own family;  Diane tells him, “Now we’ve found you, you’re stuck with us!”
The incriminating kiss
and kisses his cheek.
Dol with her two bottles
Sam is shocked when Dol arrives on the doorstep, clutching two wine bottles.   She finds the table all laid for dinner
"Oh you little beauty, you!"
and remarks, “Oh you little beauty, you!”
"I'm expecting someone else!"
She ignores all Sam’s protestations that he is expecting someone else, and starts opening a bottle.
"Don't let me disturb you!"
Just then, Anita arrives and sees them together;  “Don’t let me disturb you – I didn’t realise you were so close!
"You suit each other!"
You suit each other!”
"Give me ten minutes to get rid of her"
Sam takes Anita to one side and explains what has happened.   “Give me ten minutes to get rid of her – you should be here tonight, not her!” and Anita hides in another room.
Cadno is not happy . . .
DJ arrives back at Penrhewl late, and when Cadno sees traces of lipstick on his face, she suspects he is seeing another woman.
. . . and not taken in by the Tale of the Amorous Barmaid
He fabricates another tale, “My friend Deian and I had a couple of drinks in the Red Lion, and the barmaid kissed us both as we left.”
"I'm going to the Deri!"
Cadno does not believe it, and storms off to the Deri.
"Did you forget something?"
Siôn is listening to music when Gwyneth returns;  “Did you forget something?” he asks.   She turns off the music as he tells her,
"You'll end up a lonely old man!"
“You’re better off without me – everybody is!” as he takes another drink.   She warns him that if he is not careful, he will end up a lonely old man.
"Well, at least I won't hurt anyone that way!"
“Well, at least I won’t hurt anyone that way!” he comments.
Gwyneth is becoming exasperated;  “Do you want to be on your own the rest of your life?   I’ve tried my best with you – and you shut me out!
"You're right, I do deserve better than this!"
You’re right, I do deserve better than this!”   She goes upstairs.
"Ooh, I don't feel very special!"
Sam begins his efforts to get rid of Dol;  “Ooh, I don’t feel very special!
"I don't want to give you this bug!"
The last thing I want is to give you this bug – what I need is a good night’s sleep.”   After several prompts like this, Dol gets the message and leaves,
"Waste not, want not!"
being careful to take her two bottles with her.
"I thought I'd have to hide in there all night"
Anita emerges from her hidingplace;  “Thank goodness for that – I thought I’d have to hide in there all night!   I hope you’ve saved me some food.”
Cadno is not happy – and suspicious
Cadno is very irritable in the Deri;  “You didn’t answer your phone – it could have been important!   You come home, smelling of cheap scent and with a lipstick mark.”   DJ concludes that she will not believe him, whatever he says, and she agrees.
"Aren't you being a bit hard on him?"
Diane judges that she is being a bit hard on him;  “He’s not the type to cheat on you – he loves you!   Once you calm down, you’ll realise that DJ’s not interested in anyone but you.”
Britt thanks Colin, while Gwen has a quiet read
Britt joins Colin at the bar and thanks him for his support the last few weeks, giving him a kiss;
"Careful, or people will talk!"
“Be careful, or people will talk!” he warns her.
She looks as if she is going to leave
When Gwyneth comes downstairs with her bag, Siôn’s mood has changed.   “I’m sorry – I’m sure we can talk about this – please reconsider!
"I've got nobody else!"
The last thing I want is to lose you – I’ve got nobody else!”
"So I'm better than nobody, am I?"
Gwyneth is not sure that being ‘better than nobody’ is a ringing endorsement, but he continues, “You’re the only one who has stood by me, and I need you now more than ever.   You mean so much to me, Gwyneth, don’t let me throw this away, please!”
She agrees, “Promise me you won’t give up!   Just don’t shut me out, but talk to me, trust me!”
Gwyneth still looks rather doubtful
Siôn kisses her, but she still looks concerned.
