6 June 2016

"Where did you get this baby?"
Hywel demands, “What have you done?   Where did you get this baby?”   Sheryl insists that she knows it is a shock, but Esther’s mother was so ill.   Hywel adds, “We have to phone the authorities before we get into trouble!”
I've adopted her!"
Sheryl is quite adamant, “I’ve adopted her – I’ve got all the documents and certificates.   Things are different in Uganda.”   Hywel goes to dismiss Stacey, who is waiting in the car for him;
"I was about to go looking for you"
he tells Sheryl that he was about to go looking for her.   “I know this is difficult to take in, but if we take it one step at a time . . .” she says,
They are left alone
but he has already left the room.
"We have been informed . . ."
DS Davies informs Siôn, “We have been informed that you bought the Deri Arms with money stolen from Bethania chapel.”
"I don't know who told you that!"
He replies that it is nonsense, and he does not know where the police got that information from.   “The Fraud Unit has discovered a £20,000 transaction from Bethania’s account into yours on 15 October 2014 and a further £2,000 the following day,” adds the DS.
"It was arranged between me and Mrs Megan Harries"
He calmly explains, “Yes, I borrowed it – it was officially arranged between me and Mrs Megan Harries – anyway, it has all been repaid with money I saved, and which couldn’t be released at the time, or I would have lost interest.   Hence the temporary loan.   There was no need for any paperwork, as Megan and I are old friends.”
DS Davies points out that this money was neither his nor Mrs Harries’ so he must have some kind of agreement on paper.   He assures her that was not necessary, as they trust each other.
"Can I have a word, Sarge?"
A constable comes in and calls the DS away.
Hywel still looks very confused
Hywel brings his luggage back in, having told Stacey that he has changed his mind, and asks Sheryl, “When did you plan this?   A week ago – two weeks?”
"It was three months ago"
He is surprised to hear, as Sheryl puts the washing into the machine, that it was about three months ago, when she first met Esther.
"You kept this from me!"
“So when we were together here, you knew you were bringing a baby home?” demands Hywel, “That’s what all the phone calls were about – clients!   You kept this from me!”
She answers that she was scared that things would not work out, and that he would be disappointed.   He snaps, “Why would I be disappointed?   I don’t want another baby – we’re happy as we are.”
Sheryl insists that if he had seen the poverty out there, he would have felt the same,
"I would have talked to you first!"
but he interrupts, “No!   I would have thought twice – and I would have talked to you first!”
"Remember how you felt"
She reminds him how he felt, and how they almost made off with baby Nicky, but he explains that was caused by grief.
"This is our chance, Hywel!"
She will not be put off;  “You’ve forgotten how much you wanted another baby!   You’ve got so much love to give – this is a chance for us to have everything we wanted!”
"One chicken biryani, one prawn bhuna . . ."
As she walks along the back street with the children, Britt reminds herself of the items they wants from Cwm Delhi;
"Do you realise how much trouble you've caused?"
as she unlocks the flat door, Gwyneth comes across in belligerent mood.   “Do you realise how much trouble you’ve caused?” she demands.
Britt simply replies that it was not her who called the cops.
"Lots of people hate you!"
Chester adds, “Lots of people hate you – make a list!”
"You deserve everything you get!"
Britt tells Gwyneth, “You’ve got no proof!   You killed my brother, stole my husband and now you live in my home!   You deserve everything you get!   It’s a pity it wasn’t me who called the cops!”
Iolo and Colin arrive
Iolo and Colin have arrived during this tirade, and Britt informs them that she was not responsible for Siôn’s visit to the police station.
Chester is obviously well-versed in Photoshop
Inside, Chester is looking at a graphic on the laptop screen, intending to post it on CnocCnoc.
"You shouldn't do that, Chester!"
Catrin advises against this, but he replies, “Oops – too late!” and assures her that they cannot trace it to him – he has posted it from ‘Deri Bechu’,
The Deri Sinner strikes
which translates as ‘Deri Sinner’.
Iolo is concerned;  “You don’t think there is any truth in that allegation against Dad, do you?” he asks Colin.
Tyler and Gaynor arrive
Then Tyler and Gaynor come in, after a meeting at school, talking about the leaving party for Harri Tomos, Maths teacher at the end of term.
Colin continues with his culinary masterpiece
They are told by Colin that Siôn has been taken away by the police, then he prepares to serve dinner.
"She was so good on the plane"
Sheryl informs Hywel that Esther is fast asleep and that she was so good on the plane.
"I could have got you some help"
He is angry;  “Why didn’t you tell me you were so desperate?   I could have got you some help.”   When she explains that this was not the result of depression,
"I knew exactly what I was doing"
but that she knew exactly what she was doing, he continues, “Including deliberately deceiving me?”
She maintains she could see no other way – she wanted Esther so badly and was worried that he might refuse.
"And what if I refuse now?"
“And what if I refuse now?” he asks, “Are you going to send her back?   You’ve taken it all for granted – and I need time to think about this ultimatum!”
"I don't think I want to 'work it out'!"
As Sheryl assures him that they can work this out, he snarls, “Do you know what?   I don’t think I want to!”
"What was your wife's response?"
When she returns to the interview room, DS Davies asks, “I take it your wife is aware of this loan?   What was her response to the £22,000 loan?”
"We're going through a bad patch"
Siôn explains they are separated, and that she knew about it, but that they are going through a ‘bad patch’, for which she blames him.   “What are you saying, Mr White?” the DS enquires, “That she’ll disagree with your statement about the money?”
“If it wasn’t for her stirring, I wouldn’t be sitting here today!” he replies irritably.
"Your wife is not the reason you're here"
The DS assures him that his wife is nothing to do with his presence in the station today, and advises that he is free to go – for now.
Gaynor had an 'unfortunate experience' (?)
Gaynor wants nothing to do with a school pantomime, as she had an ‘unfortunate experience’ when she was younger.   Colin recalls his schooldays;  “We had a panto about Jack the Ripper – I was Jack.   I can remember the song,
"Killing women – what a spree!"
Jack the Ripper – that’s me,
Killing women – what a spree!”
which Gaynor finds rather inappropriate, leaving to join her fellow teachers in the Deri,
"I'm going to find Dad"
while Iolo also suddenly gets up, resolving to go and find out what has happened to his Dad.
"I'm a father again . . ."
Hywel is drinking alone when Gaynor arrives;  he tells her, rather mournfully, “I’m celebrating I’m a father again –
". . . a daughter called Esther – from Uganda!"
a daughter called Esther – from Uganda!”   Gaynor looks decidedly puzzled.
"Who else would have talked to the police?"
At home, Siôn wonders who else could have talked to the police, if it was not Britt.   Gwyneth suggests, “It could have been anyone, after Britt’s explosion the other day!   Iolo arrives, and is told by Siôn that he was questioned about the money business.
"There's no truth in it, is there?"
Iolo hopes that there is no truth in what has been said.
"Once Megan confirms it, that will be the end of it!"
Siôn is confident, “Once Megan confirms the loan, that will be the end of it!”   Iolo is sure that someone has something against his father, and that Megan’s confirmation will be a relief to everyone.
Hywel tells his troubles to one of his ex-wives
Hywel confides to Gaynor, “She acts as if bringing a baby from another country is normal!”
"Well, I thought this was what you wanted"
Gaynor replies that she thought this is what he wanted, in the process breaking up their marriage, a family with Sheryl.   He explains that he was willing to bring up Lois’s baby, Gwen, as Rhys was her father.
"She lands here with a baby!"
He continues, “The first thing I know, she lands here with a baby!
"I think you should give it a go"
Gaynor offers him the advice to ‘give it a go’, and then joins her fellow teachers.
"Things all right between you and Iolo?"
At number 7, Colin asks Tyler if things are all right between him and Iolo;  “Just be honest with him, if anything is wrong.   He’s looking for someone who will give 100% to the relationship.”
Hywel is back . . .
Sheryl is playing with the baby when Hywel returns and is prevailed upon to hold Esther.   “You’re not going to leave us, are you?” she asks anxiously.
. . . having apparently had second thoughts . . .
“Esther, meet Daddy – we’re going to be all right, because Daddy’s here now.”
. . . but he is not convinced, by a long way
Hywel looks rather less certain.
The teachers are becoming rather loud in the Deri as Tyler arrives;  he introduces Iolo to them as ‘a friend’,
"We're just friends, are we?"
which prompts Iolo to take him aside.   “What’s going on?   We’re just friends now, are we?   Are you ashamed of me?”
Tyler explains that he feels awkward mixing work and personal life, and,
"That's OK, I can accept that"
accepting this, Iolo is about to leave,
Tyler decides to go public
when Tyler impulsively kisses him, in front of everyone.
Yes, they certainly are all staring
Iolo protests that all the teachers are staring at them, but Tyler simply comments, “Good!”
"Time to go to bed, Chester"
Britt tells Chester it is time for bed and turns off the television;  he reprimands her, “The way you let Gwyneth talk to you was pathetic!
"Why do you let her and Siôn walk all over you?"
Why do you let her and Siôn walk all over you?   We live in this poky flat and he’s up there in his big house with his whore!   You work in a chippy, and we’re always skint – like those benefit families!”
"I work hard for every penny!"
Britt hollers, “I’m not on benefits – I work hard for every penny!”
"I'm the only one who tried to punish Siôn . . . "
Chester tells her, “You’re useless!   I’m the only one who has tried to punish Siôn!”   Britt realises that it was Chester who reported Siôn.
". . . well, someone had to!"
“Well, someone had to!” he proudly announces.
"Do you understand what you've done?"
“Do you understand what you’ve done?” she demands, “I was married to Siôn when he took the money – do you really think the police will believe I didn’t know where he got more thatn £20,000 to buy the pub?   It’s Siôn’s word against mine.
"I could go to jail, and it will be your fault!"
I could go to jail for this, Chester, and it will be your fault!”
Not so pleased with himself now
Chester looks rather discomfited by this revelation.
