Hywel spots the soft toy
Hywel is about to go to work when he sees Meilyr’s soft toy and picks it up;  “I want Esther to have it,” says Sheryl, and he grudgingly agrees.
"I want you to get to know Esther"
“Do you want to meet for lunch?” she asks, and he replies that he is too busy.   “I want you to get to know Esther,” she adds, then as he hurries off, “Aren’t you going to say goodbye to her?”
"Daniel's coming this weekend"
Gethin has a phone call and announces to Ffion that Daniel is coming to stay for a few days this weekend;  “We could take him to Bluestone,” he suggests, but Ffion does not seem keen.
"Do you fancy running Welsh classes?"
Diane visits, to ask Ffion if she fancies running Welsh classes in the Antur, as there used to be a tutor in Llanarthur, but he has emigrated.
"I can't promise anything"
Ffion tells her that she cannot promise anything, as she and Diane leave.
Eileen gets out her fitness DVD . . .
Eileen, looking unusually plump, ensures she is alone in the shop flat, then puts on a DVD;  “Welcome to Fighting Fit with Tina,” the voice says,
. . . and begins working out
and she begins exercising according to the instructions.
Ffion will think about the Welsh classes
As they walk along the street, Diane tells Ffion that they envisage informal tuition sessions, then Ffion sees Hywel and hurries across to him.
"I had no idea you were adopting"
“I had no idea you were adopting,” she says, and he reveals that neither did he.
"The first I heard of it was when the baby arrived!"
“The first I heard of it was when the baby arrived in the flat!” he groans, “And she says she’s been arranging it for three months.”   Ffion enquires whether Sheryl has gone through the proper channels, and remarks that he does not seem happy about it.
"The parents have to be absolutely certain!"
“That’s why the adoption process takes so long,” she comments, from experience, “The parents have to be absolutely certain!”   Hywel confirms that Sheryl is certain – he has never seen her so happy.   “Come over if you need a chat,” Ffion invites him.
"I can't do the haymaking today"
DJ is looking smart when Cadno reminds him they are haymaking today;  he insists that he cannot do it as he has to go and help Diane out.   “You can’t do that – she’s not your boss!” complains Cadno.
He pleads, “What if I make you a special meal tonight?   And I’ll work really hard tomorrow!”
"Three courses, wine and flowers"
She agrees to this, on condition that the meal is three courses, with a bottle of wine and flowers.
Eileen seems to have lost interest
Eileen is still watching the DVD, but is now slumped in the chair with a cup of tea and a half-eaten packet of biscuits;
Her exercise regîme appears not to be working
then she turns off the video and disposes of the packet in the bin.
"I need an alibi"
DJ goes to Bryntirion, where he asks Diane to be his alibi;  “When you live together and work together, it’s difficult to do anything on the quiet,” he says.
"Oh – I'm so pleased!"
“I want to marry Cadno, and I’m going to get the ring – I think I know what she likes, so if you see or hear from Cadno, tell her I’m working for you as a favour.”
"That's fantastic news!"
Diane thinks that this proposal is fantastic news.
"Stacey's changed everything!"
Hywel arrives at the Deri at lunchtime and tells Sheryl, “Stacey was only there a few days, but she’s changed everything!   What do you want to eat, then?”
"Do you want to hold her?"
Sheryl replies, “Aren’t you going to say hello to Esther?   Do you want to hold her?”
He answers that he is rather busy, picks up the soft toy
"I don't want her to have this"
and says, “I don’t want her to have this – I don’t want to pick her up.   Every time I look at this . . . stranger . . . I’m reminded how much I miss Meilyr.
"I don't think I can do this"
I don’t think I can do this – be a father to a strange girl.   It would be best if I moved out!”
Sheryl asks if he is finishing with her, and he replies,
"You've taken me for granted"
“I don’t know!   I’m annoyed with you for what you’ve done – taken it for granted that I wanted to be father to her!”
“I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I know you – I know we can make this work!” insists Sheryl,
"I have no feelings for Esther"
but he shakes his head and informs her that he has no feelings for Esther, and it would be best for everyone if he moves out.
Hywel leaves the Deri
He gets up and walks out of the Deri.
Eileen needs a trainer
Eileen goes to Cysgod y Glyn to ask Ffion to be her Fitness Trainer, but Ffion says that she is not qualified.   “I’ve looked online at gyms, but hate the idea of going there,” Eileen adds, and Ffion agrees,
"I prefer going for a run"
explaining that she prefers to go for a run.   “I don’t think I can run – I haven’t done any exercise for years!
"I don't know where to start"
But my blood pressure is high, and I don’t know where to start.   I’m sure you know enough for someone like me, and it would be a big boost to my confidence.”
"You must get a good sports bra!"
Ffion capitulates, advising, “All right, but you’ll have to run, and make sure you wear trainers and a good sports bra.”   Eileen swears her not to breathe a word to anyone, especially Jim,
That secret did not last long
but as soon as she has gone, Ffion tells Gethin all about it.
"How about Daniel?"
“Have you thought any more about Daniel?” he asks, and Ffion maintains that his visit would be difficult this weekend.   “But you can find time to train Eileen,” he accuses her, “Daniel doesn’t come to stay very often – I’m sure you can reschedule!”
"I'll help out with the bills"
Hywel has packed his case, and assures Sheryl that he will help out with the bills as much as he can until she sorts herself out.   She tries again to persuade him,
"Please, Hywel, don't do this!"
“She’s lost everything – we’ve got the opportunity to give her a good life.   Think of all the love that’s inside us both – we can’t let that go to waste!   You’re not going to give up this easily, are you?   Please, Hywel, don’t do this!”
However, he leaves the flat
He gives her his bunch of keys, picks up his case and walks out.
"Have you seen DJ?"
Cadno calls at Bryntirion, looking for DJ, as he was not at APD.
"He's over Llanelli way, somewhere"
Diane invents a story about him being with Dai on a site over Llanelli way somewhere, as one of the gang has gastro-enteritis.
“He’s supposed to be helping me with the harvest,” moans Cadno, “Typical Dai, taking advantage!
"Tell him I'm cooking tonight"
If you do see DJ, tell him that I’m cooking tonight.”   She leaves, looking suspicious.
"I'm going to talk to year 10 about job experience"
Gethin tells Ffion that Gaynor wants him to talk to year 10 about job experience;  “Are there still students wanting to be mechanics?” she asks, disparagingly, “All the children I talk to want to be actors or celebs!”
Hywel is looking for accommodation . . .
Hywel arrives with his case, explaining that he and Sheryl have split up, and asking if he can stay for a few nights.   Gethin’s answer is that Daniel is coming this weekend, but as Hywel resolves to find a B&B,
. . . and softhearted Ffion takes pity on him
Ffion takes pity on him.   “I can’t bear the thought of staying in that flat with Sheryl and . . . Esther,” he wails.
As he takes his case to the spare room, Ffion tells Gethin, “They’ve just split up – what am I supposed to do?”   He decides to go for a pint at the Deri, although dinner is almost ready.
"It will be a huge change for you and Hywel"
As Sheryl sits on a bench, gazing at Esther in her pram, Eileen joins her;  “It will be a huge change for you and Hywel!” she comments,
Sheryl searches for a tissue
and is shocked to see that Sheryl has burst into tears.
“He’s finished with me – he doesn’t want us!” she sobs;
"You're coming back to the flat with me"
Eileen takes her back to the shop flat.
DJ has been shopping at Morgan Cavendish
His shopping trip completed, DJ shows Diane the ring he has selected;
"Beautiful – she's going to love it!"
her verdict is, “Beautiful – she’s going to love it!”   Diane reminisces about looking in the window of Morgan Cavendish when she was a child.
"I'll pop the question over a special dinner"
“I’m going to cook a special dinner and pop the question,” says DJ, but when given Cadno’s message that she is doing the cooking, he is disappointed.   “Oh – I can’t ask her over a bowl of pasta, can I?   She’s not much of a cook, you see.”
"You should take her away somewhere"
Diane recommends taking Cadno away somewhere romantic;
"How about the football at Bordeaux?"
“I could take her to Bordeaux for the football this weekend!” suggests DJ,
"No!   Somewhere like Rome or Venice!"
but this is overruled, in favour of somewhere like Rome or Venice.   He tells Diane not to breathe a word to anyone, while he works out what to do.
"Put these on, so it looks like you've been working"
She supplies him with a pair of overalls, so it appears that he has been on a building site all day.
Eileen talks of Ed's green smoothies
In the shop flat, Eileen tells Sheryl about Sioned wanting a baby, and her feeding Ed with green smoothies as a consequence.
"Hywel thinks I'm trying to fill the void"
“Hywel thinks I’m trying to fill the void after Meilyr,” explains Sheryl,
"I think of John every day"
and Eileen sympathises as she still remembers John, Sioned’s twin.
"It never works out for me"
“All I ever wanted is a husband, children and a home, but it never works out.”
"What did he say when you discussed it?"
Then she reveals that Hywel knew nothing about the adoption process.   “I made an instant connection with Esther – she looked at me and smiled, then laughed – amid all that noise and poverty.   I knew straightaway that I wasn’t leaving that place without her
“I thought after Hywel had spent some time with her, everything would be OK, but he can barely say her name.”
"You have to start playing it smart"
Eileen asks is she is going to give up that easily.   “I’ve seen the way Hywel looks at you, and you have to start playing it smart.   Just remind him what he’s lost – you’re an independent woman with your own business.   He gave up everything to be with you – do you think those feelings have disappeared?   Give him the impression that life goes on just fine without him – if you play it right,
Yes, that is Sheryl's aim – getting what she wants
there’s no reason why you can’t have what you want.”
