| Esther is exceedingly loud |
Esther is screaming uncontrollably, and Sheryl imagines that all sort of things are wrong;

Hywel can get no reply from the surgery, and urges her not to panic,

| "Right, we're going to the doctor's" |
but she insists they have to take her to the doctor.

| Ed has been banished to the sofa |
Sioned is noisily making breakfast as Ed wakes, after an uncomfortable night on the sofa;

| "Talking sensibly not an option?" |
“Talking sensibly is not an option, I suppose?” he asks.
As Sioned glowers at him, he continues, “There’s nothing going on with Sara and me – I know I shouldn’t have told her those things, but it’s too late now. All I said is that I’m not ready to have children at the moment.”

| "You're the only one I want" |
Sioned is not convinced, despite his insistence that she is the only one he wants, and will do anything to prove that.
“You can make a good start by telling Sara to leave us alone!” snaps Sioned, and tells him to put his coat on.

| "Get thrown out last night?" |
Eileen comes in and asks Ed, “Get thrown out last night?” Sioned explains that he was not feeling very special and did not want to pass the bug to her.

| "Haven't seen this shirt before" |
Cadno is looking at one of DJ’s shirts, which she does not recognise; “Very smart – are you going somewhere important?”

| "Let's go to The Bull and then for an Indian" |
He replies, “Not unless you come with me – let’s go to the quiz at The Bull, and then have an Indian. We’ll ask Diane or Eileen to look after the children.”

| "Who is the mysterious Linda? |
Then he receives a text, which seems to cause him some concern; “How are you? Phone me,” from Linda.

| Cadno is suspicious |
He hurries off, saying he has to talk to Jim about the boxing.
At the doctor’s, Sheryl explains that she has not had a chance to register Esther; then she is asked for the child’s NHS number.

| "Does it matter? She's ill!" |
“Does it matter? She’s ill!” replies Sheryl, irritably, “I’m not going anywhere until I see a doctor. Understand?”

| "I can help you" |
Eileen is rearrranging her filing system when Courtney arrives and offers to help; “I can’t revise all the time!” she says.

| "What do you want?" |
Jim wonders what she is after, but she assures him, “I just came to say hello, and discuss the party.

| "Don't worry if you don't want to come" |
“Don’t worry if you don’t want to come – we understand if the music is too loud for you.”
Eileen answers that she is looking forward to it, which disappoints Courtney,

| "I'll make sure Eileen behaves" |
and Jim promises to make sure her gran behaves.

| "What if she has some terrible illness?" |
As they wait, Sheryl frets, “What if she has some terrible illness,” and Hywel asks if the paperwork includes any medical notes. “I can’t remember,” replies Sheryl,

| "Now is not the time!" |
adding, “Now is not the time to discuss this – Esther deserves the best – but apparently without an NHS number she is no-one. If you stopped being so selfish, we could look after our little girl. This is not about you any more – you need to face up to your responsibilities!”
Hywel protests that he is doing his best,

| "That's not good enough, Hywel!" |
but is told, “That’s not good enough!” Hywel has had enough, gets up and leaves; as Sheryl calls after him, her name is called by the receptionist.

| "Let's make a few things clear" |
Sioned and Ed march into Sara’s; “Ed and I want to make a few things clear, so there’s no misunderstanding,” Sioned tells her.

| "I shouldn't have discussed it with you" |
Ed continues, “I’ve apologised to Sioned – I shouldn’t have discussed personal issues with you. You’re not the person I should have told.”

| "I can't imagine a better father" |
Sioned insists that she cannot imagine a better father than Ed;

| "Well, what are you here for, then?" |
Sara wonders what they are doing there in that case. Sioned emphasises, “From now on, leave Ed alone! There’s no point in trying – you’ll never come between us!”

| "You're a sad old woman!" |
Sara asks why she would want to come between them, and is subjected to, “You’re a sad old woman who is unhappy in her marriage – I don’t blame Jason for leaving – if he has any sense, he’ll stay away!

| "Think Ed would be interested in you?" |
“You’re crazy, thinking Ed would be interested in you!”
This is the last straw for Sara – she answers, “All right then – why did he try to kiss me?” Sioned is affronted that she should suggest such a thing about her husband.

| "You control freak!" |
“I feel sorry for him – you’re control freak!” shouts Sara, “Get out, Sioned!”

| It was only a common virus |
Sheryl arrives home, rather deflated, after having found that Esther is suffering from a common virus, which will clear up in a couple of days with paracetamol and plenty of water. She and Hywel apologise to each other;

| Hywel is concerned |
he is worried that she adopted Esther to fill the void which Meilyr had left.

| "What was I supposed to do?" |
She replies, “I’m doing this for Esther – no-one else. What was I supposed to do? Leave her in that poverty? She has hope, here with us.”
Hywel is more of the opinion that she does not belong here, but with her family. “It’s not our responsibility – life is not fair!”

| "If only you could understand" |
“But we can try to help. It would mean so much if you could understand – if you could be part of this,” pleads Sheryl,

| "I'm not sure I can" |
but he regrets that he is not sure that he can.
She adds, “I faced the worst part of my life when we lost Meilyr, but slowly, thanks to Esther, we’re getting through it. She’s not to replace him, but she needs us. Promise me that nothing will ever happen to her, and no-one will take her from me.” He replies that if he could promise that, he would.

Sheryl states, “Whatever your decision, I’m going to raise her, with you by my side – or on my own!”

| Lunch time at the shop flat |
Courtney has a meal with Eileen and Jim after helping in the shop,

| Courtney receives £10 |
and Eileen gives her £10; “You can put it towards driving lessons,” comments Jim.

| "Thanks, Dad – you're amazing!" |
Courtney misinterprets this to mean he agrees to buy her a car and throws her arms round him; “Thanks, Dad – you’re amazing! I knew you would, I won’t let you down, I promise I’ll be careful! I’ve been looking already!”

| Jim is puzzled |
Jim looks totally mystified as she continues, “It doesn’t have to be expensive – a secondhand car will do!”

| "I'm not made of money!" |
“Who said anything about buying a car?” demands Jim, “I’m not made of money! When I was your age, I had to save up for everything.” Eileen offers her a Saturday job in the shop, but Courtney wails that it will take years to save for a car.
Jim advises her to work hard now, and if she does well . . . Courtney dismisses this as blackmail, and accuses him of treating her as a little girl.

“You’ve got to start trusting me, and treating me with more respect – at least Eifion understands me!” She runs out of the flat.

In the Deri, Sioned orders a vodka as Ed tries to explain, “It was only an innocent kiss – I didn’t want to let you down – Sara was there and listened to me – it was a ‘thank you’ kiss to a friend.”

Sioned is not interested in excuses; “I want to know how you’re going to make it up to me – you’ve got a lot of making up to do!”
Ed stresses how incredibly lucky he is, and how they both have a lot to lose;

“Can’t live with each other – can’t live without each other! There won’t be another mistake – I want to be with you – and the little one!”

At the other end of the bar, DJ looks concerned as me makes a phone call; “Hello – I got your text.”

| "We'll think about it for your 18th" |
Jim follows Courtney home to Eifion’s and tells her, “Getting a car is out of the question, but pass your test and we’ll think about it for your 18th birthday.”

| "Just chill, Dad!" |
She once again informs him that she is happy, living with Eifion, adding, “You’re the problem – just chill, Dad! I want to stand on my own feet and make my own mistakes. I don’t want to sound ungrateful, but you have to start trusting me.”

“I didn’t want to come to your party anyway,” Jim admits, which pleases Courtney,

who says that his dance moves would terrify her friends.
Cadno finds DJ in the Deri, talking to Diane;

while he fetches her a drink, Cadno looks at his phone.

| "No, I don't know any Linda" |
“Sly dog – I told you! Do you know a Linda?” she asks Diane. “Plas Du Hotel – one o’clock Monday. How much more evidence do I need? If he’s seeing someone, I need to catch him!”

| "All right, I'll come with you" |
She persuades Diane to accompany her.

| "You're expecting too much of me" |
Hywel looks very downcast and tells Sheryl she is expecting too much of him; “I’ve tried, but I just can’t – it’s been difficult for months. I’m tired of having to be strong – I can’t forget and don’t want to forget.

| "I can't adopt her!" |
“Meilyr will be with me for ever – and I won’t find room to love Esther. I can’t adopt her!”

| "I only had him for three weeks" |
Sheryl insists that she did not make the decision lightly, and there is not a day when she does not think of Meilyr – she only had three weeks with him – but this is her chance to be a mother again.

Hywel is adamant that he still loves her;

Sheryl feels the same but takes off her ring

as she tells him she has to move forward and try to make sense of it all. “Only Esther can help me do that!” she says,
