21 June 2016 (2nd)

"Eifion – can we talk?"
In tears, Courtney leaves a message for Eifion;  “I’m so sorry!   Can we talk?”
"I'm coming to school with you!"
Ffion tells Gethin that Daniel has left his art book behind;  “I can’t take it to him – I’m coming to school with you!” he replies.   Ffion is surprised that he has arranged his work experience so quickly.
"We've been through this"
“You can’t be a teacher without a degree – we’ve been through this!” she says, but Gethin insists he wants to set a good example to Daniel,
"Are you ashamed of me?"
and asks if she is ashamed of him.   “Not at Ysgol y Mynach – I teach there.   The school’s my patch!” is her comment, but he assures her that she will not even know he is there.
DJ is miserably eating his breakfast
"That's Marian's dressing gown"
when Linda come downstairs wearing Marian’s dressing gown.   Cadno says that Marian would have been glad it was bring used.   Linda intends to walk to the village and will have her breakfast there;
"Get me a Western Post while you're there"
“You can get me a Western Post while you’re there,” grumbles DJ.
Cadno apologises that he is grumpy in the mornings;  “I know!” replies Linda.
"Have you seen my estimates book?"
As Dai searches for his estimates book, as he is going to price a conservatory, Diane asks, “Did you know his name was Iwan?   She’s been through a lot with the cancer and all.”   Dai is in a hurry to go,
"I have to put out the washing first"
but Diane has to put out the washing.   “I’m going to invite them to dinner,” she says, but he has already gone.
Gethin is all smartened up
Gethin has put on a shirt and tie;  he urges Ffion to be a bit supportive, but she replies,
"What will Garry do without you?"
“It has come as rather a shock – what is Garry going to do without you?”   She is far from happy to hear he has resigned, as he does not want to be a mechanic.   “You have no idea what is facing you!
"School life is hard!"
“School life is hard!” she stresses, but he maintains it cannot be harder than working for Garry.
In the shop, Linda selects a jar of Penrhewl honey, plus the newspaper and a box of chocolates;
"Jim has taken the milk!"
Dai comes in, complaining that Jim has taken APD’s milk to a site in Maes-y-Deri, and grabbing another four-pinter.
"Dai Ashurst – he's a bit of a character!"
Eileen tells Linda, “That’s Dai Ashurst – he’s a bit of a character.   He runs the local construction business. When Eileen enquires where she is staying,
Eileen is intrigued by the enigmatic stranger
Linda simply asks how much she owes.
She cannot seriously expect to hide there
Eifion arrives home, and Courtney tries to hide, but he notices a cup left on the table and finds her.
"What are you still doing here?"
“What are you still doing here?” he demands, and is insistent that he wants her out by the time he finishes his shift,
Courtney is distraught
leaving her in tears.
"Hey, Geth – like the tie!"
At school, a boy passes, and comments, “Hey, Geth – like the tie!”   The boy is reprimanded by Ffion and informed the visitor is to be addressed as ‘Mr Thomas’.
"Courtney Probert's off today"
The school receptionist reports to her that Courtney Probert is not in school.
"He won't last two minutes!"
Then Ffion tells Gaynor that it would have been nice to have some notice of Gethin’s work experience;  Gaynor points out that it is important for her to be supportive;  “It’s important to be realistic too – he won’t last two minutes!” is Ffion’s evaluation.
Courtney studies the laptop
Courtney is looking at her laptop when her phone rings;  seeing that it is the school calling, she rejects it.
"Bird food, please"
Linda visits APD and asks for bird food;  Dai remarks that he saw her earlier in the shop, and asks if she wants seed or nuts.
"Nuts please, Dic!"
“Nuts please, Dic!” she replies, and Dai thinks it strange she addressed him like this, as his brother, who lives in Galway, is called Dic –
"Of course, I'm more handsome!
although Dai says that he is more handsome.
“I know you!” she stresses, “Paris, Five Nations, 1987!”
"That was a wild weekend!"
Dai remembers that was a wild weekend.   She continues, “Why did you call yourself Dic, when your name is Dai, back then in Paris?   You had hair then, but it was you!
". . . and then went upstairs"
“You were drinking in a bar on your own – I was alone too.   We had a couple of drinks and then went upstairs.”
Dai admits he has hazy memories of something like that,
Realisation dawns on Dai
but he becomes alarmed when she informs him, “I’m DJ’s mother – who’d have thought it?   DJ’s father is not in Galway after all – he’s here in Cwmderi, right under DJ’s nose!”
"I've heard of women like you!"
Dai angrily answers, “I’ve heard of women like you – the truth is that Dic is DJ’s father.   If it wasn’t Dic, it could be thousands of men in Paris that weekend.   What do you want – money?”
"How about a DNA test?"
As she is about to leave, she advises him, “I want you to admit the truth – I’ll be in touch about a DNA test.”
"No, not DNA – she said PVA!"
Jim has arrived, and asks what was that about DNA;  “No – what she said was PVA!” replies Dai.
DJ does not want to encourage Linda
Cadno suggests to DJ that they go to the village and meet Linda for lunch, but he answers, “I don’t think so, and don’t invite her to dinner, or she’ll never go home!   She never gave me a welcome – why should I give her one?   She spoiled everything – I had the potential to go far, farther than a dirty farm in Cwmderi, anyway!”
"At this rate, you won't have any women left"
Cadno tells him that if he carries on like this, he will not have any women left in his life.
"You've been crying!"
Eileen has heard that Courtney is not at school, so comes to see her;  after initially alleging that she is unwell, Courtney soon admits what happened between her and Eifion.
"What am I going to do?"
“It was my fault – I was so happy, I gave him a hug – and then kissed him!   He didn’t do anything wrong.   Now he wants me to move out – what am I going to do?”
"It's ten o'clock – and you're still here!"
Ffion meets Gethin on the stairs and expresses her surprise;  “Ten o’clock – and you’re still here!”   Gethin says that he is enjoying it, and Gaynor confirms he is doing well.   “If this is what you want to do, who am I to stop you?” Ffion remarks, and agrees to meet him for lunch in the Deri.
Gethin exercises his schoolteacher voice
A group of boys comes barging down the stairs, and Gethin admonishes them, “That’s enough!   This is a school, not a rugby pitch!”   They snigger at him.
On the worksite at Maes-y-Deri, Dai looks worried.   Jim asks, “This Linda, DJ’s mother – are you going to tell me what’s going on?
"I'm certain she said DNA"
“I’m certain she said DNA.”
Dai agrees, as long as he does not breathe a word to anyone;  “Have you slept with this one, too? Jim demands.
"You know what these rugby trips are like"
“No – well not recently!” replies Dai, “It was 30 years ago, and you know what these rugby trips are like!   I was married to my first wife, Alys.
"It's nonsense – but possible"
“I was drunk, and told Linda my name was Dic.   Now she’s trying to say that I’m DJ’s father – it’s nonsense – but possible.”
“I’ve always said you two were alike,” Jim comments, “Why would Linda tell lies?   Women know about these things – they can work it out.   It’s only a matter of sums.
Jim urges him to prove it once and for all
“Take the test!   Prove it’s all nonsense.”
"You'll have to come and live with Jim and me"
Eileen makes Courtney a cup of tea;  “You will have to come and live with Jim and me,” she suggests, “Sioned and Ed will have to find a flat.   Or what about Penrhewl?   I’m sure Cadno would be willing.”
"Perhaps I shall  have to go and live with Mam"
Courtney mournfully considers, “Perhaps I shall have to go and live with Mam.”   Eileen stresses that her school work is too important for her to move now.   Courtney adds, “I want to stay here – there’s plenty of room, and I’m left alone to revise.   But that’s all spoilt now, and everyone will know how stupid I’ve been!
Courtney envisages terrible consequences
“You’re going to tell Dad, he’ll go and punch Eifion, who will report Dad, and he’ll be arrested!”
"I'll try to persuade Eifion"
Eileen concludes there is only one thing to do;  she will not tell anyone, but must talk to Eifion and persuade him to let Courtney stay.   Courtney is convinced, “He’ll listen to you!”
"I wonder if she's a gold-digger"
Dai wonders if Linda is a gold-digger;  Jim points out, DJ is 30 – you won’t have to pay maintenance.”   Then Dai thinks she may want money to keep it from Diane.   “But you weren’t with Diane at the time,” counters Jim,
"What will DJ say?"
“Anyway, you’ve got more that Diane to think about – what will DJ say?   He worshipped Dic, and calls himself Dic Junior.”
Dai is adamant, “She’s not going to spoil things – I’m happy with things as they are, and DJ’s happy.   Why upset the apple-cart after all these years?”   However, Jim thinks she looks like a determined woman.
Dic Deryn, long ago
DJ is showing Linda photos of Dic Deryn taken in Galway;
Linda looks at the photos, then at DJ
Linda looks at the photos and then at DJ.
