After his binge at the Deri last night, Ed is asleep on the sofa; “You stink! Do you know that?” comments Sioned, “How much did you drink last night?”

| "I'll be fine after a greasy breakfast" |
Ed predicts that he will be all right after a greasy breakfast, but she continues, “You could lose your licence – that’s the last thing we want!

| "I'll phone one of the other blokes" |
“I’ll phone one of the other blokes to come in.” Ed thanks her for her uncharacteristic consideration, and she leaves.

| "You should be ashamed of yourself!" |
Eileen tells Ed he should be ashamed of himself, as he decides to go for a shower.

| "Oi! This is not a hostel!" |
Debbie finds Mark asleep in the café; “Oi! This is not a hostel!” she tells him, but he replies that he had a late night, and that the conversion will not build itself.

| "You're shattered!" |
“You need help – you’re shattered!” she insists,

| "All I need is an early night" |
but he leaves on his round, remarking that he will be fine after an early night.

| "It's all over!" |
Colin confides to Eileen that it is all over between him and Britt; “There’s no point in going to Newcastle – I’d only make a fool of myself,” he laments, “It’s all because of that toerag Chester! What if she moved to Newcastle – what would I do then?”
Eileen suggests that, as Britt is currently approaching, he should ask her.

Britt says that they need to talk, and invites him over for lunch.

Colin, although puzzled, agrees readily.

Debbie has called Jim to Maes-y-Deri to inspect Mark’s work; “I didn’t realise he’d made such a mess of it!” pronounces Jim, and Debbie asks him for an estimate to finish the job.

| "Off the top of my head, twenty grand" |
“Off the top of my head, twenty grand – and you won’t find anyone cheaper,” he replies.
Debbie protests that is more than the original quote, but he explains, “Someone has vandalised the place!”

Mark walks in, demanding what is going on; Jim beats a hasty retreat,

| Debbie cannot get through to him |
and Mark reiterates that he does not want any help.

| "These flowers are from DJ" |
Eileen arrives at Penrhewl with flowers for Cadno’s birthday, advising that they are from DJ, who has phoned her.

| "Typical – he hasn't even sent me a text!" |
“Typical – getting in touch through someone else – he hasn’t even sent me a text!” complains Cadno. Eileen says that he said he sent a postcard, but Eifion is quick to assume it probably went missing.

| Eileen proceeds to spill the beans about DJ |
Eileen insists that she ought to talk to him, as he did have plans for them.
At this point, Eifion urges Eileen to go, as Cadno is tired, but she goes on, “He was going to propose to you – it was all arranged, but you had the accident and the chance was gone. You really should phone him.”

Cadno maintains that she never wants to see him again.

| "I've made you a doctor's appointment" |
Debbie has made a doctor’s appointment for Mark; his response is, “He’s not going to be able to help me finish the job, is he?”

Debbie stresses that they are all worried about him – even Dol. “If it weren’t for them I wouldn’t have to do the work – they’re overcrowding the place,” he moans,

| "Right, I've got a floor to lay!" |
“Right, I’ve got a floor to lay, so shut the door on your way out.”

| "Cadno has a right to know" |
Eifion snarls at Eileen, “Why did you have to open your mouth?” She replies that Cadno has a right to know, and that this will destroy his plans to get his hands on Penrhewl.

Cadno comes back in, incredulous that she had not been told this before,

| "It was announced at the Royal Welsh" |
and even more so when Eileen discloses, “Thousands of people heard it at the Royal Welsh Show – DJ arranged for it to be announced in the ring – a public proposal!”

Eifion’s lame excuse for not having told her is that he was waiting for the right moment.

Cadno insists that now she wants some peace and quiet.

As Britt and Colin eat fish and chips, she tells him that Neil is improving and that Chester is trying to sort himself out.

“I’m sorry I treated you so badly before I went away,” she tells Colin, “It all got too much for me, and I did miss you – your company and putting a smile on my face. I think the world of you!”

“So will you give us a second chance?” he asks, and she agrees.

| Ed is about to be rudely awakened |
Ed is again asleep on the sofa, and this time Sioned pours water on his head to wake him;

| "You'll have to come to work!" |
“I can’t find a driver – you’ll have to come to work!” she orders, “You can answer the phones, and I’ll drive.”
He protests that she does not have to do that,

| "Go and change your shirt!" |
but she replies, “You had no right to let me down and get drunk! Go and change your shirt, and come to work!”
Ed furiously informs her, No! You’re not my mother – you can’t tell me what to do!”

| "Where would you be without me?" |
“Someone has to – you haven’t got an ounce of vision or backbone!” Sioned rages, “Where would you be without me? You can’t cross the road without me.”

| "I've had enough of you!" |
It appears that at last the worm has turned; “You know what? I’m not working today – or tomorrow – or ever again! I’ve had enough of you and your interfering family! The only thing I’m going to do is what I should have done ages ago – pack my bags and leave!”

She chases him out into the alley; “You can’t leave – we only just got married! Come back with me now!”

As Ed is refusing, Jim demands what this circus is all about.
Ed tells him that he is leaving, as it is all over, and Sioned wails that he is being unreasonable. “This is not the place to sort it out,” says Jim, and warns, “You’re not going anywhere until you two have a had a chat.

“If you don’t go up to the flat, I’ll carry you up there!” Ed reluctantly turns and trudges back inside.

Mark has been to see the doctor and confirms to Debbie that there is nothing wrong; his problem is that he is stubborn.

“I’ve made a mess of the work – I don’t have a clue what I’m doing,” he admits, “I started so the children could have a decent place to live, and I’ve messed up again. Unless another builder is going to do it for free, there’s no point – I don’t have any money. I already spent more than planned –

“I don’t suppose you have thousands under the mattress?”

| Ed meekly waits for the inevitable criticism |
Eileen takes Sioned’s side in the argument,

and mentions that Ed slept with Angela before she went away.

| "I've forgiven him for a lot of things!" |
“I’ve forgiven him for that,” announces Sioned, “In fact I’ve forgiven him for a lot of things!” She does not reply when Eileen asks for details,

instead simpering, “I don’t want to lose you, Ed – please don’t leave!”

| Ed backs down and grovels |
Ed gets the message and concedes, “Perhaps I was a bit rash earlier over a silly argument.”

| "Go and unpack (there's a good boy)" |
Sioned instructs him to go and unpack, and he goes off, muttering, “Sorry to have made such a fuss.”

Cadno ponders on the fact that DJ was going to ask her to marry him;

| "But then he ran away!" |
“But he ran away after you had the accident!” points out Eifion, “That tells you what he’s like. He let himself down.”

| "Why have you got it in for DJ?" |
She replies, “And you love that, don’t you? Why are you always putting him down? Eileen said that you’re trying to get your feet back under the table.”
Eifion’s answer is that he was worried about the boys losing their mother, and anyway he has started seeing someone; “Gaynor – and it’s moving rather quickly, to be honest!”

“I’ve not eaten chips from a paper bag for ages,” says Colin, “And I’m not single, thanks to you!”

As he leans across to kiss her, Britt stops him; “Let’s find somewhere more comfortable!” and leads him towards the bedroom.

At mealtime, Eileen says she wants to go to Carmarthen to get a present for Courtney, as she has done so well in her AS levels.

Ed is not hungry and is going out for a walk, to get some fresh air,

despite Sioned’s instruction that he comes and sits down.

Britt emerges from the bedroom looking somewhat dissatisfied; Colin comments on his performance (or lack of it),

“Sorry – that never happened to me before! I’ve just had a lot on my mind lately.” Britt concludes that whatever it was, it must be more important than her.

He assures her that there is no-one else in his life, but by now she has lost interest,

and he thinks he had better go.

| Ed is thoroughly dejected |
Ed sits dejectedly on the bench, and it is not long before Sioned finds him;

| He is seriously thinking about divorce |
“Are you going to the Deri again?” she demands. He tells her that he might go to a solicitor, to talk about divorce.

| "Ask them how long you get for murder!" |
“While you’re there, ask how long you get for murder!” she suggests, “I’ve told you before, if we’re not married, I have no reason to keep quiet!”

| "I could tell the police everything!" |
“There is one other option – I go to the police and admit everything,” Ed proposes, but Sioned is confident that he would never do that, and tells him to come home and apologise to her Mam for being so rude.
“I’m not asking – I’m telling you! Come home! Apologise! Now!” ![]() |
| He returns to the flat, as instructed |
Meekly he accompanies her back into the flat.
