13 May 2016

The unpacking begins
As Gwyneth and Siôn unpack at Y Felin, she comments, “Who would have thought that not moving could be so much fun!”   Siôn welcomes the chance to get rid of some unwanted stuff.
"I'm not looking forward to telling people"
“I’m not looking forward to telling people,” Gwyneth admits, “They’ll talk about us!”   Siôn points out that they have been doing that for weeks.
"Didn't the lorry turn up?"
Dai and Diane arrive to say goodbye, as they saw the car outside;  Diane remarks that she thought they were moving yesterday.   “Don’t tell me the lorry didn’t turn up?” says Dai,
"We're not going, Dai!"
and Gwyneth enlightens him that they are not moving.
"When's the first meeting, then?"
This greatly pleases Dai, who asks Siôn, “When is the first meeting, then?”   Siôn looks blankly at him, so he explains, “The committee to attract the Eisteddfod to Penrhewl – I knew we could rely on Siôn White!”
"Everyone in the village will know now!"
Diane hustles him out to go shopping, as Gwyneth predicts that everyone in the village will know now.
"You're going to apologise to Garry!"
As Chester prepares to go to school, Britt instructs him to come home at lunchtime;  “We’re going to see Garry – you’re going to apologise to him!”
"Do I have to?"
He seems less than enthusiastic at the prospect, as Britt tells him, “Taking responsibility is part of growing up.   You tell me not to treat you like a child, so if you want to be a man, start behaving like one!”   He leaves, sullenly, for school.
"How's Sunday's sermon going?"
Megan visits Anita and asks how the sermon for Sunday is coming along;

"I didn't agree to do that"
Anita protests that she did not agree to do it,
"But Gwilym Lewis has had to cancel!"
but Megan says that Gwilym Lewis has had to cancel, and she has not prepared anything.   She becomes upset and once again almost collapses;
Megan sits down
Anita helps her into a chair and advises she had better forget about the shop for a while, as she needs to rest.
"Britt warned me I should play second fiddle to the community"
Gwyneth jokes, “Britt warned me that I would play second fiddle to the community – is that the reason you decided not to move?”   He assures her that discussing the Eisteddfod with Dai was not even considered.
“Can’t you feel the relief?” he asks, adding,
"I'd better tell Britt"
“I’d better tell Britt before the news spreads – I’m going now, to get it over with, and you ought to tell Garry, too.”
"Welcome back to your old home!"
Iolo arrives with a cake and bottle of milk to welcome them back to their old home.
"Did Dad change his mind because of me?"
When Siôn has gone, Iolo asks Gwyneth, “Did Dad change his mind because of me?”   She replies that it was not the only reason, by a long way.
Good news – but not a lottery win
The peace at Penrhewl is shattered by the arrival of Dai and Diane;  “Ho, ho, ho – I’ve got good news!” Dai announces, and DJ guesses that Dai has won the lottery and wants to share it with him.
"Siôn White's part of the inner circle!"
As Dai helps himself to a mug, he explains, “Siôn White has decided to stay.   He’s part of the inner circle – the Gorsedd!   Just the sort of bloke we need to bring the Eisteddfod to Penrhewl!”
Dai makes himself at home
As Dai pours himself a cup of tea, Cadno suggests that first they should find out if Penrhewl is suitable.   Dai instructs Diane to ring her friend on the County Council.
"Hello, Llywela!"
She leaves a message, “Hello, Llywela, have you had a chance to assess the application yet?   I’d be grateful if you’d ring me back.”
"We won't be moving"
Siôn arrives at Britt’s flat and tells her that he will not be moving, as it creates too many problems;  he thought that she should know.
"Still living under my nose"
“So you and Gwyneth will still be living under my nose in our old home?” is the reply, “After the divorce, everything will be hunky-dory.”
Siôn stresses that he does not want to wash his hands of her and the children,
"That's why you supported me yesterday!"
and she snaps, “That’s why you supported me yesterday when I wanted help with Chester!
"If you're feeling guilty, that's your problem!"
“Just leave it – if you’re feeling guilty, that’s your problem!”
"Well, you know where I am"
He leaves, advising that next time she needs help, she knows where he is.
For one awful moment, Anita fears . . .
Anita brings Megan a cup of ginger tea, but is concerned to find her asleep, and for a moment imagines the has expired, but a slight movement proves this not to be the case.
She covers Megan with a blanket
She covers Megan with a blanket.
"What do you want?"
Gwyneth receives an unexpected reaction when she visits the garage.   She tells Garry they are not moving after all,
"Want a cup of tea?"
then he briefly hugs her and offers her a cup of tea, remarking, “Things will be easier for Gwern now that he doesn’t have to leave his friends.”
Dai and Diane have stayed for lunch at Penrhewl;
"Go on, answer it – quick!"
when Diane’s phone rings, Dai cannot wait for her to answer it.
"No – it's the bats!"
After a brief conversation, Diane shakes her head and informs him, “It’s all to do with the bats.”   Dai is furious and demands who told them about the colony of bats on the farm.
"I thought they'd be an added attraction"
DJ maintains that he thought they would be an added attraction;
Dai is just a trifle uncomplimentary about his nephew
Dai rants in his usual fashion, “He has spoilt everything!
"Missed out on a fortune – thanks to Batman!"
“I hope you realise you’ve missed out on a fortune – thanks to the antics of Batman here!”
Megan wakes and insists she is going to open the shop,
"How long have you been having these 'funny turns'?"
but Anita is against this idea, asking how long she has been having these ‘funny turns’.   Megan replies, “I haven’t been myself for a few weeks now.
"It's that Siôn – he makes me so angry!"
“This dispute with Siôn has affected me – the way he behaved and the consequences for the chapel.   It makes me so angry that I nominated him for the Gorsedd!”   Anita protests that Siôn has done a lot of good work in the community, and Megan answers,
"What don't I know about, then?"
“But there are things you don’t know about!”
Anita tells her that now he has moved away from the village, it is her chance to forget all about him.
"We don't have to argue all the time, do we?"
Still in an uncommonly friendly mood, Garry suggests, “Why don’t we do a better job with Gwern from now on?   We don’t have to argue all the time, do we?”
Britt and Chester arrive
Their conversation is interrupted by the arrival of Britt and Chester, and Gwyneth leaves to continue with the unpacking.
"I'm sorry!"
Britt pushes Chester forward, instructing him to say his piece;  “I’m sorry!” he says, rather insincerely.
"What exactly are you sorry for?"
Garry demands what exactly he is apologising for, and Chester adds, “For lying about you hitting me!”
A bone-crunching handshake . . .
“Right, I’d better accept your apology, then,” Garry tells him, extending his right hand.   He grasps Chester’s hand extremely firmly, and bones can be heard cracking
. . . which Chester tries to endure
as Chester tries to hide the pain he is feeling.   “You’re behaving like a man at last!   We understand each other perfectly now, don’t we?”   Chester cannot wait to go back to school, nursing his bruised hand.
"We have to stick together"
Garry advises Britt that they have to stick together now that Gaynor has passed the matter to the police.
"Lost an excellent business opportunity!"
Back at Bryntirion, Dai continues grumbling, “What a waste of a morning!   We’ve lost an excellent business opportunity because of DJ!”
"Stupidity must run in the family!"
Diane concludes that stupidity must run in the family.   Dai concedes there is one advantage;  “At least I won’t have to listen to Siôn White going on and on at committee meetings!”
"Garry offered me a cup of tea!"
As Siôn and Iolo are taking a rest, with a mattress halfway upstairs, Gwyneth returns and relates that Garry actually offered her a cup of tea.   Siôn reports his meeting went less well;
"All I got from Britt was poison!"
“All I got from Britt was poison!   It couldn’t have been worse – I thought she’d be pleased, but why would she?   I’ve caused her so much pain.”
"It's all a matter of decision-making"
Iolo suggests that they do not need to move to start again – it is all a matter of decision-making.   Siôn resolves he will cook them all a meal, but Iolo has a better idea;
"We'll go to Cwm Delhi – and have a nice meal!"
“No, we’ll go to Cwm Delhi – let’s have something nice!”
"You knew that would ruin the application!"
As they do the washing-up, Cadno says, “You knew that mentioning bats would ruin the application!”
"I thought that was what you wanted"
DJ admits that he sabotaged the whole thing as he thought that was what she wanted.
“Everyone was putting pressure on you to have the Eisteddfod here, and I knew you didn’t want that.   Are you angry with me?”
"You know me better than I realised"
She assures him that she is definitely not, and had been dreading the thought of all those people on their land.   He knows her better than she realised.
Some time in the future they might think about a smaller, more local event, and DJ reminds her, “If you want any ideas, just ask Uncle David!”
"You leave the shop closed today"
Anita has persuaded Megan not to open the shop, but is adamant she cannot lead the service on Sunday;
As Megan leaves, she sees an unwelcome sight
as Megan leave the house, she is distressed to see Siôn, whom she imagined to be miles away by now.
"We've changed our plans!"
Outside the chapel, he tells her, “We changed our plans – the pull of the village was too strong and we would miss everyone so much.”
"I wouldn't miss you!"
“I wouldn’t miss you!” Megan replies, with feeling.   “You’d love to put everything behind you, as if nothing had happened!   You have no idea how much suffering you’ve caused!”   Siôn remarks angrily that he has suffered too, as she tried to ruin his life.
"Aargh!"
“How dare you?” Megan begins, then with a cry crumples slowly toward the pavement.
"Megan!   Megan!"
Siôn cradles her motionless body, and shouts, “Megan!   Megan!”
