| While putting out the rubbish . . . |
As Ed empties the kitchen bin, he notices the pregnancy test, so carelessly discarded by Sioned.
![]() |
| . . . Ed makes an interesting discovery |
On further examination he is concerned to see the “Not Pregnant” notification.
![]() |
| "What's this, then?" |
At that moment Sioned walks in; “What’s this?” he demands.
![]() |
| "I did another test this morning" |
“I didn’t know how to tell you,” she begins, “I did another test this morning – I’ve read online that this can happen, and I knew how upset you’d be.
![]() |
| "Think I got away with that deception!" |
“I’m so sorry!” He hugs her.
![]() |
| Siôn is enjoying all the publicity |
Siôn looks smugly at the Western Post article about him; “I look middle-aged,” he complains to Gwyneth, who replies that he is.
![]() |
| "There are not too many mistakes" |
“Kelly’s done a good job – her written language is better than her spoken language. There are not too many mistakes. Perhaps we should make an exhibit for tomorrow, to show all the community events I’ve been connected with over the years. That’s not over the top, is it?”
![]() |
| "Britt's up to something!" |
When Gwyneth brings in the coffee, he worries, “I’m still afraid Britt will cause havoc at the party – why would she change her mind about coming? “She’s up to something.”
![]() |
| "People will suspect something" |
Gwyneth assures him that Britt is just trying to ruffle his feathers, but he frets, “If she says anything else, people will suspect there is an element of truth in the accusation.
![]() |
| "Britt and her big mouth" |
“I have no control over Britt and her big mouth.”
![]() |
| "Well, I nearly choked on my muesli!" |
Colin tells Britt, “I nearly choked on my muesli when I saw that!” Britt does not want to read the newspaper article.
![]() |
| Britt announces she will be attending |
As he looks at the instructions for the cupboard he is helping to assemble, he shows Britt the party invitation he has received. “I am going,” she informs him, “Not to punish him – although he will expect that. I’m going because the children want to go."
![]() |
| "You're not Siôn's number one fan" |
When Chester comes in she remarks, “You won’t want to go, as you’re not Siôn’s number one fan.”
![]() |
| "I just miss the money!" |
He replies that he just misses Siôn’s money.
![]() |
| "Do stop flirting, Mam!" |
As Colin and Britt joke about the cupboard construction, Chester demands, “Stop flirting with Colin!” She answers that he is only there to help with the cupboard, but Chester says, “You’re so pathetic!”
![]() |
| "Who was Allen, then?" |
Colin looks at the instruction sheet and poses the question, “Who was Allen?” and when Britt looks blankly at him he points out, “Allen key!”
![]() |
| He is definitely up to something |
They laugh, but Chester smiles slyly as he looks at the invitation card.
![]() |
| "I thought I was pregnant" |
Sioned visits Y Felin to talk to Gwyneth; “I had a false alarm this week – thought I was pregnant, but I wasn’t. Without thinking, I told Ed that I was – but he knows now. He said lovely things when he thought I was pregnant.
![]() |
| "We should try for a baby" |
“It felt right, I think that we should try for a baby. We need something to work together on.”
![]() |
| "Don't rush into things" |
Gwyneth advises that they should not rush into things, and Sioned hurriedly leaves, eager to talk to Ed about it;
![]() |
| "There's no time to waste!" |
“There’s no time to waste!” she says.
“Is it safe to come back in?” asks Siôn, and Gwyneth tells him about Sioned’s problems.
![]() |
| "I thought she saw herself as a successful businesswoman" |
“I thought she saw herself as a successful businesswoman,” comments Siôn,
![]() |
| "Britt wouldn't do anything stupid, would she?" |
then adds, “Britt wouldn’t do anything stupid in front of the children, would she?”
![]() |
| "Busy day on the taxis on Saturday" |
When Sioned gets home to the flat, Ed tells her that he will not be home until six on Saturday, as two parties have booked a taxi, so she had better change their booking at Cwm Delhi if she still wants a curry.
![]() |
| "I want to try for a baby" |
“Maybe would could have an early night,” she suggests, “I want to try for a baby – we can make this work. It would be great – things have been so good between us the last few days.”
![]() |
| "That won't fix our relationship!" |
Ed is less than enthusiastic; “We can’t expect a child to fix our relationship – don’t be so naïve! This is not the right time – we have to find somewhere to live, and establish the business. What’s the rush?”
![]() |
| Sioned will not give up |
She continues to argue, and he reminds her, “I’m sure we’ll be parents one day, but there are two of us in this relationship, and I’m not ready!”
![]() |
| More self-publicity for Siôn |
Gwyneth affixes photos of Siôn to a board, and he predicts, “Tomorrow will be a celebration of community – that will be in my speech!
![]() |
| He has an inflated view of his own importance |
“I thought of asking Iolo to film the speeches, so they could be uploaded online, and to get a Western Post photographer.”
![]() |
| "You're obsessed with it!" |
Gwyneth, on the other hand, regards all this as Siôn going overboard; “Why is all this fuss needed? You’re obsessed with it!”
![]() |
| Sioned tries out pregnancy for size . . . |
Sioned walks around the flat with a cushion stuffed up her jumper,
![]() |
| . . . but is decidedly not happy |
but then angrily throws it down on the sofa and looks depressed.
![]() |
| "Second nature to a man of my calibre!" |
Colin boasts that construction jobs like this this come as second nature to him, then he pushes in the drawer,
![]() |
| "Ooh - er! How did that happen?" |
which falls straight out of the back of the cupboard. Chester produces a small part which he omitted, and Colin is rather irritated that he has to take it apart – again.
![]() |
| "Did he actually steal it?" |
Chester asks his mother, “Why are you going to Siôn’s party? You hate him!” She replies that it it the right thing to do, and that she will propose a toast to him, in front of everyone, to prove she is pleased for him. “But you accused him of stealing chapel money last week,” continues Chester, “Did he actually steal it?”
![]() |
| "No – I was just angry with him!" |
Britt explains that he did not, but she was just angry with him.
![]() |
| "Does Chester hate me?" |
Britt is worried that Chester hates her, but Colin answers, “He is probably just trying to deal with the changes – it’s Siôn’s fault!”
![]() |
| Colin wishes he never started this |
and he returns to his struggles with the cupboard.
![]() |
| "Come on, Ed, I only need one more name!" |
Kelly pleads with Ed to sign up for the boxing tournament,
![]() |
| "All right, but not a word to Sioned" |
but he insists that Sioned would not want him to; “Ah – under the thumb – interesting!” she comments. He then agrees, but warns her not to say a word to Sioned; “Mum’s the word – plenty of training and you could win!” she encourages him.
![]() |
| "Is Sioned getting ideas?" |
He then asks if she wants a family one day; rather taken aback, she replies, “I only asked you to take part in a charity boxing match! Is Sioned getting ideas? She’s a lot younger than you and me – at that age I thought about having a family with Jinx,
![]() |
| As they laugh, look who has arrived |
“but you’ve got to be with the right person to think like that.”
Sioned returns, and Kelly leaves;
![]() |
| "Flirting with her – how could you?" |
Sioned complains, “How can you be so insensitive – flirting with her after everything we’ve been through today? I know what I saw!”
![]() |
| "Sorry, Siôn, I wont be there – or the photographer" |
In the Deri, Kelly breaks the news to Siôn that neither she nor the photographer is able to come to the party. She asks, “Why did you choose such a posh and poetic name?”
![]() |
| Off he goes, blowing his own trumpet |
He answers that it is because of his connections with Cwmderi and the Rhondda Valley – he was born and raised there. Gwyneth interrupts to point out the name, Siôn o’r Cwm, was her idea.
![]() |
| "That Siôn – what is he like?" |
Kelly enquires, “Is it your ambition to be the leader – the Arch-thingy?” and Siôn considers that to be unlikely, but it would be a great honour.
![]() |
| "Are you going to be like this all night?" |
A stony silence prevails in the shop flat; “I changed the time for our table at Cwm Delhi,” says Ed, and, receiving no reply, asks, “Are you going to be like this all night? I wasn’t flirting with her!”
![]() |
| Sioned is in full flight again |
Sioned breaks her silence; “You were, and she was enjoying it! She hasn’t got a man, and fancied mine!”
![]() |
| "I was talking about you wanting to start a family" |
He points out that he was simply talking about her wanting to start a family. Sioned is off again;
![]() |
| "I see – she's the new Angela!" |
“You did what? I’d never discuss our private life with anyone else! I see – she’s the new Angela – the woman you run to when you’ve got problems! Why can’t you talk to another man, like normal men do?”
Ed has had enough and is going to the Deri; “Me too! Goodness knows what you’ll do on your own!” Sioned shouts.
![]() |
| "It's really selfish of you!" |
Gwyneth argues with Siôn over their meal in the Deri; “Why didn’t you tell Kelly that your Bardic name was my idea? It’s really selfish of you!”
![]() |
| "Ed and I are trying for a baby!" |
When Gwyneth joins her and Ed by the bar, Sioned proudly announces, “Good news – Ed and I are trying for a baby!” Ed strongly objects to this, and she demands, “Don’t you think it’s a good idea?”
“You know exactly what I think!” he snarls, and walks out, with Sioned close behind.
![]() |
| "Her behaviour is not your problem" |
Siôn asks Chester, “You are coming to the party, aren’t you? There’s no need to be embarrassed about what your mother did – it’s her behaviour, not your problem.
![]() |
| Chester does not look convinced |
“It would mean a lot to me if you shared my success.” Chester walks away and tears up the invitation into tiny pieces.
![]() |
| "You can't just walk out like that!" |
Back at the flat again, Sioned reprimands Ed for walking out like that;
![]() |
| "I made my feelings quite clear!" |
“You can’t make comments like that – I made my feelings quite clear!” is his reply. She sulks that he does not want a child with her, but he reminds her, “You argued about flirting, and then did something like that! You said our private life is no-one else’s business!”
![]() |
| "We work so well as a team!" . . . Yeah, right! |
“I want this to bring us closer together – we work so well as a team,” she insists,
![]() |
| "You're not part of any team!" |
but he maintains she does not behave like part of any team. “You don’t see any future for us, do you?” she wails.
Ed replies, “I’m not saying that, but we have to act like adults – we have to listen to each other, or things will never work out.”
![]() |
| "Perhaps it's your turn to listen!" |
Sioned emphasises, “Perhaps it’s your turn to listen! We’ve been though a lot together, and supported each other through some tough times.
![]() |
| Ed looks somewhat less than supportive |
“Now it’s time to support me, don’t you think?”
