20 September 2016

Ed has gone to a lot of trouble, but . . .
Ed has prepared breakfast in bed for Sioned, but when she rushes in, protesting that he should have woken her earlier,
"I can't eat that!"
she takes one look and says, “I can’t eat that!   Haven’t you listened to anything I said?   I’m trying to cut down on carbs – there’s nothing wrong with eating healthily.   You should do the same – you’re not in good shape.
Once more, Ed is denigrated
I’m going for a shower.”
"Only five out of ten?"
Garry is concerned that Gwern only scored five out of ten in a spelling test.   “It was hard!” Gwern tells him, but Garry asks if he did his best.   Then Britt comes in with Catrin, who has changed markedly and looks a couple of years older than the last time we saw her.
(The new) Catrin might as well not be there
Garry ignores Catrin, and keeps complaining about Gwern’s marks.
"Yes, OK, Dad"
He wants Gwern to bring his books home tonight, so he can investigate further.
"Your results were much worse!"
Britt points out,  “He is only eight – and your results were much worse!”
Sara is off to work
When Jason sees Sarah putting on her coat,
"You're not going anywhere stressful"
he snaps, “Where do you think you’re going?”   She is feeling better this morning and is off to Awyr Iach, but he does not want her going anywhere stressful.   “It’s all under control,” he tells her,
"Today is the big day!"
“And today is the big day – it’s the first step for us as a family – and we’ll get the due date, won’t we?   Then we can tell Dai.”   Sara replies that it is simply a meeting with the midwife.
Dai reports that the work is finished
Dai is at the café flat, where he advises Mark that the work at Maes-y-Deri is now complete, and hands him the bill,
Mark does not like the look of this
which Mark finds rather frightening.   “I think you’ll find that APD has been more than fair,” says Dai.
“The doctor has signed me off for another week,” says Mark,
"Right, I'm going back home"
but he is keen to get back home, despite Debbie’s suggestion he stays there for another night.
Jason's customer relations are a bit lacking
At Awyr Iach, Jason is becoming exasperated with a complaining customer;  “I’ll tell you what – stuff your tent!” he tells them, and then admits to Ed, who has just come in with a coffee for him,
"Sara is more patient and polite"
“I’m not used to dealing with difficult clients – Sara is more patient and polite.   It’s all an act though, she’s only like that at work.”   Ed thinks this sounds quite similar to Sioned.
"I'm looking for work experience placements"
Then Gaynor calls in, looking for work experience placements for year 11 students;  “I’m keen to use local businesses,” she explains.
"Staff – free of charge!"
Jason likes the idea of staff, free of charge, but Gaynor reminds him, “Work experience – not slave labour!”
"Deri Deithio could help"
Ed tells her that they could answer phones and wash cars at Deri Deithio, and she is pleased to have their support.
“How is the new school coming along?   Maybe my children will go there,” says Jason.   She replies that she would welcome comments on the new school’s policy of offering additional support to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
"That's not fair!"
“That’s not fair – for some children to get more support than others,” argues Jason.   Then the phone rings again, and Ed leaves Jason to try and reason with another customer.
"Time to go back to school"
Back at the chip shop flat, Britt says that Catrin should go back to school, after her visit to the doctor about asthma;
"What's the point?"
“What’s the point? she replies, “No-one would care if I failed all my exams.   Uncle Garry only likes the boys – he’s not interested in me.   You saw what he was like earlier – he helped Chester, now he’s obsessed with Gwern’s school work.   He didn’t even read my short story!”
When Britt says that he has been busy recently,
"I wish he were interested, like Siôn used to be"
Catrin goes on, “Busy with everyone except me – I wish he’d be more interested in me, like Siôn used to be.”
"That attic is ideal for Ricky"
At Maes-y-Deri, Debbie is very impressed with the new attic;  “It’s ideal for Ricky – it might be expensive, but it will be worth it when he gets four A-stars in the A-levels.   He’ll pay you back, once he gets  a posh, important job!”
"But we need the money now!"
Mark emphasises that they need the money now;  “The more I think about the debt and my health, the more I worry.   What if I lose my job?   How do we repay it then?   Perhaps our luck is running out.
"What am I going to do?"
I owe thousands, and if I lose my job, I won’t even be able to afford food!   What am I going to do?”
As Jason explains to a customer that their delivery will be made by ten tomorrow,
"Deri Deithio can help"
Ed comes in with a business proposition.   “If deliveries are your problem, Deri Deithio can do them for you.
"We could come to an agreement on price"
You’ll have fewer angry customers, and we could come to an agreement on price.”   They agree to a month’s trial
They are both happy with the deal
and shake hands on the deal, then Jason has to leave for an important appointment.
Gaynor comes to see Garry
In the Deri, Gaynor has mentioned the work experience idea to Garry;  “I don’t want a teenager in the garage, but would be happy to have one in the chippy or the kitchen here,” he tells her, “And I’m sure Sheryl wouldn’t mind them helping Dani in the salon.
"There is one condition"
But there is one condition – I don’t hand out favours free of charge – I’m concerned about Gwern, and I’d like your opinion on his education.   You are the expert!   I’ll get a menu, and we can discuss it over lunch.”
"Have you seen Jason?"
When asked by Dai if he has seen Jason, Ed replies, “He gone to an important appointment somewhere.”
"He's gone to the clinic"
Sioned arrives opportunely and tells them that he has gone to the clinic.   Dai looks very anxious and continues along the street.
"Don't you want to hear my news?"
Sioned does not want to hear the news Ed has for her, as she is on her way to have her nails done at the salon.
"I'm going to be a mother!"
Jason and Sara come round the corner by Cwm Delhi;  “Everything is so real now – I’m going to be a mother!” she enthuses,
Dai has a chat with Geraint
and seeing Dai along the street, asks, “Shall we tell him now?”
"We're celebrating!"
They approach Dai and suggest, “How would you like to come in for a glass of champagne?   We’re celebrating!”
"That's not a cause for celebration"
Dai rather glumly asserts that although he has to respect their decision, he does not consider it a cause for celebration.   “You would have been a fantastic mother,” he laments.
"I'm going to be a mother in eight months!"
“What do you mean – ‘would have been’?   I’m going to be a mother in eight months!” Sara tells him,
Apologies for the intrusive villager
and he hugs her, saying they have no idea how worried he has been.
Poor Beti wonders what is going on
He is so excited that as he goes back up the street, he hugs Beti, who happens to be passing, much to her surprise.
Sara explains, “He’s missing Diane!”
"A bloke couldn't work for three years"
Mark is doing online research;  “There’s another case here, a bloke couldn’t work for three years until he got a new kidney,” he tells Debbie.
"You've got a good chance of a donor"
She argues that he is in a good position, as with the new organ transplant scheme, there is more chance of a donor.
"I'd give you a kidney!"
“I’d give you a kidney, if it were a match,” she says,
"You'd do that for me?"
and Mark is very touched that she would do that for him.   “You’re my best friend,” she continues, adding, “Not many would let Vicky and Nicky stay here – let alone Dol!   Where would my children be, if it weren’t for you?   We’re all your family – even Dol!”
Gaynor explains to Garry
In the Deri, Gaynor expounds the new school policy to Garry;  he is very much in favour, commenting, “It would have made a difference to Brandon, Britt and me.”   She suggests that Garry would be an ideal candidate to join the board of governors;
"Me – a governor?"
he laughs at the idea, but then they are interrupted, and Gaynor leaves.
"Cosy meetings with the headmistress?"
Britt asks, “Since when have you had cosy meetings with the headmistress?” then urges Catrin to tell Uncle Garry what is on her mind.
"I feel you don't care about me"
“Sometimes I feel you don’t care about me,” she begins,
"You're my favourite niece!"
but he assures her she is his favourite niece.   She replies, “You’ve only got one!   You worry about everyone except me – you didn’t even read my short story!”
"About the girl who ran away from home?"
Garry smiles;  “That one about the girl who ran away from home to be an actress in America?” he enquires.
"So you did read it!"
Catrin breaks into a smile, “So you did read it!”   He confides that there is no need to worry about her – she is the genius of the family, who is going to be a famous doctor.   “No, I don’t want to be a doctor, but a solicitor!” she says, and Garry considers that could come in very handy.
“What if we went out for the afternoon?” he asks, but she predicts she would get into trouble with school.
"No you won't – I know the headmistress!"
“No you won’t – I know the headmistress!” Garry announces.
"She's missing Siôn"
When she goes to get changed, Britt suspects that she is missing Siôn;  “She has nothing to worry about – I’m here now!” Garry states.
Dai is impatient to phone and tell Diane the news, but Jason reckons that would not be a good idea;
"Don't tell Diane yet"
“She won’t be happy that we told you first, so do us a favour . . .”
"You want me to act surprised?"
You want me to act surprised, do you?   I’m a good actor,” Dai assures them, but Jason simply wants him to follow Mam’s lead
"Just don't go over the top"
and not to go over the top.   Dai wonders what the new baby should call him – “Dodo Dai?”
"Tad-cu (Granddad) sounds much better!"
Sara concludes that ‘tad-cu’ sounds much better.
"This has been very stressful"
Debbie sympathises with Mark, “This work has been very stressful, especially when Dai left a hole instead of a bath.”
"I could sue him"
Mark considers, “I could sue him – do you think we’d have a chance?”
"Dai hasn't done anything wrong"
but Debbie points out Dai has not done anything wrong.   “He caused a lot of stress, when he knew I was ill,” insists Mark, “Ripping out that bath was the reason I want to hospital!   I think I’ve got a case – it’s not the most honest way of working, and if I weren’t desperate, I wouldn’t do it.
"This could ruin Ricky's future"
This debt could ruin Ricky’s future, and stop him going to university.   I’ll do anything to make sure that doesn’t happen!”
"I've made a deal with Awyr Iach"
Sioned does not seem very interested in hearing Ed’s news, but he tells her, “I made a deal with Awyr Iach to do their deliveries, at least five a week.   It’s a trial run for a month.”
"I'll get a bottle of wine to celebrate"
She sounds impressed and congratulates him;  “I’ll get a bottle of wine to celebrate,” she says,
Not so smiley now
but as she goes to the fridge, her face regains its customary scowl.
