"I don't think I shall make much"

Mark is trying to sell some stuff on the internet, but is not hopeful of making much;  he is off his food, and Dol urges him to have a sandwich.   

"Dai will go bonkers!"

“If we don’t pay, Dai will go bonkers!” he says, and Dol is determined that they will not go for a payday loan, after her experiences.

He talks about a second job, 

"You're not a well man"

but is reminded by Dol, “Have you looked in the mirror lately?   You’re not a well man – you ought to see the doctor.”   He tells them to stop wittering.

Gaynor finds this very embarrassing

Gaynor goes to Penrhewl and explains to Cadno that she is in a difficult situation with Eifion.   

"I thought that was all over"

Cadno was under the impression that it was all over, but Gaynor informs her, “There are complications – he has some photos on his phone.   They are innocent, but in the the hands of the wrong people, they could be problematical.   

"I thought you could persuade him"

“I thought perhaps you could persuade him to get rid of them.”

Cadno replies that things are rather strained at the moment between her and Eifion;  

"He won't listen to me"

“He won’t listen to me about the children, and I doubt he will about this.   Talking sense is not one of his virtues – he doesn’t like people telling him what to do.”   Gaynor leaves, disappointed.

"She'll be gallivanting in the Med!"

In APD, Dai tells Jason, “Your mother will soon be gallivanting in the Med somewhere.”   When she reminds him that he had the chance to join them, he answers with distaste, “Two weeks cruising with you and Glenys Pop?   I would have jumped over the railings at Southampton!”

"I'm cooking you a special meal"

Diane informs him that she is cooking him a special birthday meal for him tonight, with Jason and Sara joining them.   Dai is going to Maes-y-Deri, to keep APD’s cashflow going.

"He'll have an almighty shock!"

Jason laughs as he remarks to Diane, “I’ll tell you what – he’ll have an almighty shock when he sees you’re still here tomorrow!”

"It's hopeless – only £36.89"

Vicky has counted all the money they can find in the house, a total of £36.89.   Then there is a knock at the door, 

Mark is panicking

and Mark tries to keep out of sight as Dai comes in, 

"Right, where is he, then?"

demanding, “Where is he, then?”   Dol insists that he has gone to get the cash, and that he will pay Dai later.   

"3:00pm on the dot!"

“I’ll be waiting for him at APD – 3:00pm on the dot!” he says.   

"Why did you have to tell him that?"

Mark concludes he is in even worse trouble now.

At last Esther is asleep

Sheryl has taken Esther for a walk, and at last she is asleep;  

"Let Anita do some babysitting"

Hywel asks why she will not let Anita babysit, as she has offered loads of times, but Sheryl goes back to the flat.

"I expect you've heard about the photos?"

Then Gaynor approaches Hywel;  “I expect you’ve heard about the photos?”   He admits that he has, and she goes on, “They are innocent, but Eifion says otherwise.   You can hack, can’t you?”   

"Hacking?   Where did you hear that?"

Hywel demands where she heard that, 

"We were married, remember?"

and she reminds him they used to be married.

“What you’re asking is illegal!” he protests, and she points out that what Eifion is threatening is also illegal, and that the last thing she wants is to go to the police.   “The answer is no – it could land both of us in trouble,” he says, and walks away.

"I had an unexpected visitor"

At Penrhewl, Cadno remarks, “I had an unexpected visitor today – Gaynor.   Something about photos – it’s none of my business what you two got up to, but the problem is that the photos are still on your phone.   I’m worried that it might affect the children, as other parents are beginning to talk.   If you’ve finished with her, why not delete the photos?”

"No problem – I'll delete them"

“No problem – I’ll delete them,” answers Eifion, 

Cadno thinks that was fairly painless

and Cadno thinks the matter is settled.

"Why not be straight with Dai?"

Although Mark is quite sure that the bank will not lend him the money, he has to try, as it is his last resort.   Vicky suggests he should phone Dai and be straight with him.

Esther is quite happy . . .

Sheryl is resting on the sofa, with Esther playing happily on the floor;  

. . . as the egg boils

an egg is boiling on the hob for Sheryl’s lunch.   

"OK, Geth, I'm on my way"

Hywel receives a phone call from Gethin that his car has passed its MOT and needs to be collected.   

Sheryl soon nods off

He goes, and the exhausted Sheryl soon falls asleep.

Some time later, Hywel returns to find the saucepan has boiled dry;  in his hurry to remove it from the hob, he burns his hand.   

"Where's Esther?"

Sheryl wakes and they are both horrified to see that 

No baby to be seen . . .

Esther is no longer there.   Panic-stricken, Sheryl searches 

. . . but she has not gone far

and soon finds her in the next room.   Hywel shakes his head in disbelief.

Gaynor arrives at Penrhewl

Gaynor drives her car into Penrhewl’s farmyard, and parks somewhere out of sight.

"Yes, Mam, the champagne is in the fridge"

Jason comes into APD to inform his mother that the champagne has been delivered, and he will put it in the fridge;  “There is nothing worse than warm champagne!” exclaims Diane.   He apologises that Sara will not be able to join them tonight, as she is suffering with a stomach upset.

"We're going to a really posh restaurant!"

Diane reveals that tomorrow night, she and Dai are going to a really posh restaurant, but Jason points out that he is only 62.   “It doesn’t matter how old he is – he deserves to celebrate in style!” she replies, as Dai comes in and asks what ‘style’ they are talking about.

"We're not repapering Bryntirion!"

When she tells him it is styles of wallpaper, he protests, “Don’t have any fancy ideas about papering Bryntirion!   We’ve spent enough as it is!”

The boys are home from school

Taxi-driver John Post brings Cadno and the boys back to the farm;  Gaynor is watching from her vantagepoint, and dials Eifion’s number.   

Gaynpor demands what he intends to do with the photos

“What did you mean by that message you sent?” she asks, “What do you intend doing with the photos?   Put them on the internet?   All I’m asking is that you delete them – is that too much to ask?”

"All right – I'll delete them right now"

He replies that he will delete them right now, 

She can see that he does not

but she can see that the phone goes straight back into his jacket pocket.

They need to advertise for a baby-minder

Esther is by now fast asleep;  Hywel suggests they could advertise in the shop, the salon and the local paper, even on CwmFM.   

"I want to arrange this on my own"

As Sheryl applies antiseptic cream to his burnt hand, she tells him, “I need to ensure Esther’s well-being – we can’t make do with just anyone as a child-minder.   I want to arrange this on my own, so I can make sure I get the right person.”

As they settle down for a nice cup of tea . . .

Eifion brings Cadno a cup of tea, and she shows him a picture Bobi has drawn at school.   

. . . someone creeps in the door . . .

Meanwhile, the front door quietly opens and Gaynor feels in the pockets of the jacket hanging just inside.   

. . . and finds Eifion's phone

She finds the phone, but dislodges the jacket from its hook.

Eifion rushes out, but too late

Eifion hears a noise, and rushes out but only sees Gaynor’s car disappearing at high speed from the farmyard.

"The rugby team are going to sing to him on the radio"

Hywel reveals to Vicky and Dol the supposedly secret plan for Dai’s birthday;  “At 1:15pm the boys from the rugby club will sing happy birthday to him at the CwmFM studio, and Diane has organised a birthday party at Bryntirion at that time, to make sure he is listening”

"What are you doing?     It's top secret!"

Diane has just come in and demands, “What are you doing?   Prattling on about tomorrow – it’s top secret!”

Dol assures her, “Your secret’s safe with me!”

"You?   The biggest megamouth in Cwmderi?"

“You?   The biggest megamouth in Cwmderi?” roars Diane, “You’ve been spreading rumours about Gaynor!”

Unmitigated failure

As anticipated, Mark’s visit to the bank was a failure;  

"Problem with the credit rating"

“Problem with the credit rating – so ‘ta-ta’!   There’s nothing I can do!”

"Do you live in a different time zone?"

Dai has just entered the Deri and shouts, “Do you live in a different time zone to the rest of us?   It was 3:00pm at APD two hours ago!   

"Flash the cash, Jones!"

“Flash the cash, Jones!”   Mark lies that as Dai wanted cash, the bank will not let him have it until tomorrow.

“You’re lying, I can tell!” thunders Dai, and Diane tries to hush him.   

"Don't you shush me!"

He responds, “Don’t shush me – this one’s been lying his head off!”   Then he fixes Mark with a steely gaze, and goes on, “The only problem here is you!   

"I'll rip out the bathroom suite!"

“If you don’t pay tomorrow, I’ll come to Maes-y-Deri, go upstairs and rip out the bathroom suite!”

A car pulls up outside . . .

Gaynor, now back home at Llwyncelyn, hears a car arrive outside, followed by a furious banging on the door.   

. . . and Gaynor goes to the door

She looks determined as she opens it, and Eifion rushes in.

"Where is it?   I want it back now!"

“Where is it?   I want it back now!” he rants, but she calmly replies that he will not scare her with his shouting.   “You stole my phone!” he rages.

"Where would it leave you – with your record?"

“Yes, and be grateful I didn’t hand it to the police,” Gaynor replies, “I had every right, and where would it leave you – with your record?   

"I know what you did to Sioned!"

“I know what you did to Sioned, so, if there are any more photos, that’s what I will do!   Is that clear?”   

Eifion has made rather a fool of himself, again

He has been put in his place.

"I've deleted the photos"

She fetches the phone and places it on the table;  “I’ve deleted the photos,” she tells him.   He sheepishly picks it up and she orders, “Now – get out!”

"I pity your children!"

As he slinks away, she adds, “I pity your children – having a father like you!” and breathes a sigh of relief when he has gone.
