26 September 2016

Siôn has been doing some shopping
Siôn emerges from the shop with a green carrier bag
Gwyneth sees him passing
and puts up his hood as he walks along the street;  Gwyneth sees him from across the road.
"Things will be better"
At number 7, Colin tries to persuade Iolo that things will get better after the trial,
"I'm sending Meleri to prison!"
but Iolo replies, “How come?   I’m sending Meleri to prison!”   Colin reminds him that it was a serious crime.
"Right, I'll leave you to talk"
Then Tyler comes in and Colin says he will leave them to talk, but instead Iolo escapes out of the back door.
"You've got to talk to Iolo"
Britt arrives to see Colin, and warns Tyler that he needs to talk to Iolo sooner or later.
"The United Nations would have given up on those two!"
After Tyler leaves, Colin says, “The United Nations would have given up on these two!”
"Back to work tomorrow"
Mark is at the café, and tells Debbie that he is going back to work part-time tomorrow, to see how it goes.   “All the dogs will have forgotten me, so they’ll smell fresh blood,” he jokes,
"Thought I'd never deliver another letter"
“I was starting to worry that I’d never deliver another letter.”
Debbie is pleased to see that Dai’s leniency has taken a load off Mark’s shoulders, and when he thanks her for all her help, she assures him, “I’d do anything for you!”
"I saw Siôn earlier"
As they sit on the sofa, Britt tells Colin that she saw Siôn in the street earlier, and that is bound to cheer up Iolo.   Colin doubts that;
"The trial is the only thing on his mind"
“The trial is the only thing on his mind – it’s not easy for Tyler, although he’s trying his best.”   Britt is of the opinion that it was not Tyler’s place to tell the police that girl had breached her bail conditions.
Colin is disappointed that they cancelled the wedding, as they had asked him to be best man.   “Iolo told me to sell the rings, but I’m keeping them safe,” he tells her,
"Look, here's Iolo's ring"
and gets out Iolo’s ring, which he shows to Britt, “He must have small fingers,”
We all know exactly what is coming next!
he remarks, as he tries on the ring, and then, predictably, cannot remove it again.
"Very funny, Colin!"
Britt assumes he is joking,
"I can't shift it!"
but he cries, “It’s stuck – it really is stuck – I can’t shift it!”
"I feel like hiding from the world as well"
Siôn is at the bar in the Deri, where DJ tells him, “I feel like hiding from the world as well – would you say it’s done you any good?”
A malicious grin on Eifion's face
Siôn commiserates with him, as Eifion smirks at the other end of the bar.   “You’re one of the few people who don’t know, “DJ goes on, “Cadno refused to marry me – after I came all the way back from New Zealand for her.”   Siôn advises that is it sometimes better to be on your own.
"But I want to be with her!"
DJ insists that he wants to be with Cadno, but Eifion interrupts;
"You should go back to New Zealand!"
“You should go back to New Zealand – there’s nothing to keep you here!   Even your own father wouldn’t want you here in that state!”   Then he turns on Siôn;  “You look as if you slept on the street too!”
He is reprimanded by Siôn, who maintains he does not have an ounce of sympathy.
"Let me buy you a meal, Siôn"
Then Gwyneth arrives and invites Siôn to have something to eat, but he finishes his drink, picks up his carrier bag and leaves.
"I'd rather have a doughnut!"
In the café, Debbie brings Mark a healthy drink, although he would prefer a doughnut;  she reminds him, “Ricky needs you, and so do I.
"Shouldn't you be honest with people?"
Shouldn’t you be honest with the people on the estate about your condition?”
"I don't want to upset Ricky"
Mark answers, “I don’t want to upset Ricky, now that he’s started his A-levels – I’m taking each day as it comes, and there’s no need to worry at the moment.”
It appears that the batteries are flat
At Y Felin, Siôn is trying to get one of his few remaining possessions, the radio, to work when there is a repeated banging on the door.
He tries to ignore the knocking
Gwyneth is heard shouting, “It’s me!   Are you there, Siôn?   I’ve got something for you – you and the boys will be happy to have this back.”
"Go away and leave me alone!"
After initially telling her he wants to be left alone, he eventually opens the door,
"I've just made this – it's still warm"
and she produces a cake she has just made.   He replies that he does not need food.   She insists that it is a good sign that he is going out again.   “It takes a brave man to punish himself,” she tells him,
His photo album is returned . . .
and also produces the photo album which she has rescued.
. . . and he weeps . . .
He is in tears as he looks though it,
. . . to see the old pictures
and thanks her for bringing it back.
"Ffion wants me to judge the Bardic contest"
Mark has had a call from Ffion to say that the original person to judge the Bardic contest has pulled out, and inviting him to act as the judge.   “She wants me as the guy in charge, to say which poems are good and which are rubbish.   It will be fun, doing something different –
"And there's a £50 fee!"
and there’s a £50 fee!”   Debbie is now all in favour of him taking this on.
"Can you still count these days?"
“I shall need someone to keep the score – can you still count these days?” he asks Debbie.   She wonders, if he is the judge, what she will be called;  he replies, “Mrs Judge?”
"I don't want anything from you!"
When Eifion offers DJ a drink, the reply is, “I don’t want anything from you!   Shouldn’t you be farming Penrhewl?”   Eifion haughtily informs him that he can afford to take a day off
"I'm such a good farmer!"
as he is such a good farmer, and Cadno is very happy with him.
DJ is considering homicide
DJ walks away and sits with Tyler;  “I’m worries that I’ll murder Eifion!” he says.   They compare notes on their failed relationships;  “Falling in love is great, when things go right,” laments DJ.
Iced water does not work on that ring
Colin has his hand submerged in cold water with ice cubes, in a desperate effort to remove the ring.   When Tyler comes in, they make a hasty exit, after warning that Iolo is upstairs.
"He'll probably stay up there all night!"
“He’ll probably stay up there all night!” moans Tyler.
"This is lovely, Debs!"
Mark is enjoying the meal which Debbie cooked for him when he receives a text from Ffion, detailing the various Bardic challenges;
He peers at Ffion's list of things to be judged
“A limerick containing the words ‘I saw in the village of Cwmderi’, a humorous ENGLYN (apparently a group of strict Welsh poetic metres), and a lyric poem, plus a lot more.
A selfie, to send to Ricky
I’ll deserve £50 after judging that lot!”
Thread, wrapped tightly round Colin's finger
In the Deri, Eifion is wrapping a thread tightly round Colin’s finger;  Colin thinks he will have to go to Glangwili (General Hospital, Carmarthen), where, Britt informs him,
"They'll cut it off!"
“They’ll cut it off – the ring, not your finger!”
Colin frets that a ring in two pieces is no good to Iolo,
"DJ has an engagement ring for sale!"
and Eifion makes the suggestion that DJ has an engagement ring for sale.   “Penrhewl could lose its organic status because of him!   Years of work in vain!”
"All right, I'll go and clean it up!"
DJ says he will go up there are clean it up, but Eifion cannot resist adding, “It’s a bit late for that – the Ministry will have seen it online by now!
Eifion is in imminent danger of being walloped
Just stay away from Penrhewl!”
"Look – it's off!"
With a cry of joy from Colin, the ring finally parts company with his finger.
Siôn tucks into the freshly-baked cake . . .
As they sit on the floor at Y Felin, Gwyneth tells Siôn, “No-one thought you would stick this more than a few days – you’ve proved something to yourself and everyone else!”
. . . every last crumb
Meanwhile he has polished off the cake crumbs from his plate.
"I've fallen out of love with Cwmderi"
“Going into the village was the hardest thing,” Siôn admits, “But I’ve fallen out of love with Cwmderi, and I don’t think I could go back to Tylorstown – I’ve told too many lies.”
"She will forgive you – I have!"
Gwyneth thinks, “If that Jackie is a friend, she will forgive you – I have!”   he tells her that she is different to Britt and the rest of the villagers.
“No-one cares about me, despite all the service I gave,” says Siôn,
"You're a special person"
but she assures him he is a special person;  she has seen all sorts over the years, with evil in their eyes, but she does not see that in Siôn.
"This proves otherwise!"
“This proves otherwise!” he asserts, pointing to the tag on his leg.
She insists that he has punished himself for long enough, and that he did not break the law for personal gain, but for the good of the community.
"You don't get the credit you deserve"
As they do the washing-up, Mark again thanks Debbie for all her support;  “You don’t get the credit you deserve,” he says,
They seem to be growing closer . . .
and kisses her.   Ricky has just come home and witnesses this,
. . . which pleases Ricky
but with a smile he retraces his steps down the stairs.
"We'd better pretend it didn't!"
“That hasn’t happened for a long while!” comments Mark, and Debbie wants to pretend that it did not.   As Ricky comes in again, more noisily this time, Mark thinks it is time he returned to Maes-y-Deri.
"I tried to apologise"
At number 7, Tyler is becoming exasperated, arguing that he has tried to apologise,
"You should be saying sorry to Meleri!"
but is told, “Meleri is the one you should be saying sorry to!   She’s been locked up earlier than expected.   She needed time to prepare.   You didn’t think about her family and the effect this has had on them!”
"Remember what she did to you?"
Tyler fetches the Western Post cutting and demands, “Remember what she did to you?
"She's been using you!"
I still think she’s been using you – acting innocent to get you on her side.”
"She needs help!"
Iolo will not be shifted from his conviction;  “She cracked – she couldn’t deal with her sexuality – I understand that!   She needs help, and someone to understand her – you can’t blame me for that!   I trust her!”
"How can you be so naïve?"
Tyler furiously answers, “If she’s genuine, why has she not shopped the gang to the police?   How can you be so naïve?   As if attacking you was not enough, she has messed with your head!”
"I don't want to be responsible"
Iolo does not want to be responsible for sending her to jail for years, but Tyler points out, “The judge will do that – it’s out of your hands now!”
Iolo has now decided what he will do – or not do
Iolo has made up his mind;  “It’s not!   Without me, she’ll have a better chance of getting off
"I'm not going to testify!"
– I’m not going to testify!”
