| An early visit from Sam |
It is early when Sam visits Anita – she is still in her dressing gown; “I haven’t seen you for days,” he says, “I wanted to thank you for your company last week, and to invite you to dinner tonight.” Anita thinks this sounds rather like a date, but he explains,
![]() |
| "Sam's seafood – fresh bass!" |
“No, just a shared meal – Sam’s seafood – fresh bass!”
![]() |
| "OK, but don't tell anyone" |
She replies that it sounds very nice, but pleads with him not to tell anyone, as it is a bit too soon after Meic, and he agrees, “Not a word!”
![]() |
| "Do you think Sara has sorted it out?" |
At Maes-y-Deri, Vicky asks Stacey, “Do you think Sara has sorted out that letter? I like the job in Awyr Iach – Jason makes me laugh.”
![]() |
| "There's no work for you!" |
Then the phone rings and Vicky answers; she is given a message from Sara that Stacey will not be required today, as there is not enough work.
![]() |
| Stacey is fairly sure she knows why |
This, of course, does not go down well with Stacey.
![]() |
| Sam indulges in a bit of D I Y . . . |
Sam is doing a spot of carpentry on Gaynor’s diningroom table; he is thinking of making a drinks cabinet for the boat – “To hide the rum!” suggests Colin.
![]() |
| . . . but Gaynor is irked that it is on her diningroom table |
Gaynor is not impressed and wants Sam to clear up the mess, but he asks her for a favour – could she arrange to go out tonight, as he has a ‘lady friend’ coming for a meal. Despite being badgered, he refuses to tell Colin who the lady is;
![]() |
| "Some women like to keep it discreet" |
“Some women of a certain age like to keep it quiet and discreet,” he says.
![]() |
| "All right – three conditions!" |
Gaynor is not keen, but grudgingly agrees, on three conditions – that he behaves, does not touch her wine and clears up the mess on the table now.
At Awyr Iach, Vicky explains to Gwyneth that Sara did not want Stacey there.
![]() |
| Gwyneth is suspicious of Sara |
“I wonder if she’s telling the truth – you saw the tension between them yesterday, but I don’t want to lose my job,” Gwyneth ponders
![]() |
| They do serve up a good breakfast in the café |
In the café, Hywel is concerned that Sheryl is not saying much; “You’ve hardly given me a second glance all week,” he complains,
![]() |
| "Yes, OK, dinner tonight" |
and to appease him she agrees to dinner at the Deri tonight.
![]() |
| Dani sounds rather fraught |
Dani bursts in, saying that Vicky has gone to Awyr Iach again, rather than the salon, and she cannot cope on her own. Sheryl says that she will go and help her.
![]() |
| Anita is quizzed about the level of work |
When Anita arrives at Awyr Iach, Gwyneth questions her as to whether there is less work today; “I don’t think Sara would lie,” Anita replies,
![]() |
| "Lying about what?" |
but Sara is nearby and demands to know what they are talking about.
![]() |
| "It is a bit of a coincidence" |
“It’s a bit of a coincidence that Stacey is not here after what happened yesterday,” Gwyneth suggests, but Sara tells her there will be a staff meeting at lunchtime.
![]() |
| "Oh look – a welcoming committee!" |
Then Dol walks in, asking “Right, where do I sit?
![]() |
| "I'm going to enjoy myself here!" |
I’m going to enjoy myself here!”
![]() |
| "She's not going to do anything!" |
Gwyneth reaches the conclusion that Sara does not intend to do anything at all about the letter.
In the salon, Sheryl is once more on the phone to Megan;
![]() |
| "Is Megan your new best friend?" |
“What’s the deal between you and Megan?” demands Dani, “You haven’t stopped talking to her since you came back. Is she your new best friend?”
![]() |
| "Here's a box full of bills for you to sort out" |
Then Dani produces a box full of bills for Sheryl to sort out.
![]() |
| "I think Sara is dealing with a sweatshop" |
In the café, Stacey explains to Hywel what has happened; “I lost my job in Awyr Iach because I was trying to do the right thing. I think Sara is dealing with a sweatshop to save money. They benefit from children working for pennies – it’s immoral!”
![]() |
| Hywel sympathises |
Hywel says that there is not much she can do without proof, advising her to make a written complaint,
![]() |
| Stacey considers moving away |
and Stacey admits, “Perhaps walking away from Cwmderi would make life easier.”
![]() |
| Sam and Colin, working on the good ship 'Gaynor' |
By the boat, Sam tells Colin tales of his adventures in Shanghai, and adds,
![]() |
| "Is that special varnish, then?" |
“We need more yacht varnish, but a trip to Swansea will sort it out.” Dol arrives, and Sam asks her, “Got a pot of yacht varnish in your pocket?”
![]() |
| "No, it's just the way I walk!" |
“No, it’s just the way I walk, love!” she replies,
![]() |
| "How about a drink or something?" |
“Hey, we haven’t had a bit of fun for ages – how about a drink or something?” Sam pleads that he has too much work to do on the boat.
![]() |
| "That boat's made you boring!" |
Dol grumbles, “Do you know what? You’ve become really boring since you bought this boat!”
As she stomps off, Colin remarks, “Well, well – curiouser and curiouser! Who is she then?” but Sam will still not tell him.
![]() |
| "Have a word with Vicky!" |
As Dani makes coffee at the salon, remarking, “A holiday to get over your holiday!” she asks Sheryl to talk to Vicky about her absence, as she really needs the help.
![]() |
| "Make an effort – you're not in Africa now!" |
Sheryl reveals that she is going out for a meal with Hywel, so Dani, in the absence of any clients, insists on doing her nails; “You have to make an effort – you’re not in Africa now!”
![]() |
| "Men! Don't they get you down?" |
Dol complains to Anita, “Men! Don’t they get you down? That Sam was over me like a rash
![]() |
| "That floating skateboard!" |
“– now that floating skateboard’s on the scene, he don’t want to know!” Anita suggests that he is busy bonding with his son over the boat, but Dol suspects,
![]() |
| Anita does not relish the prospect |
“Perhaps Sam’s interested in another woman – if he is, I’ll scratch her eyes out!”
![]() |
| "She won't do anything" |
In the street, Gwyneth tells Stacey that Sara is unlikely to do anything. Sheryl is locking up the salon,
![]() |
| They tell Sheryl about it . . . |
and they tell her about the situation, and she exclaims,
![]() |
| . . . and she is eager to help . . . |
“That’s unscrupulous and immoral! Of course I’ll help you investigate!’
She goes straight to the Deri, where Hywel has already been waiting some time, and tells him,
![]() |
| . . . more eager than to have dinner with Hywel |
“Sorry – something’s come up and I don’t think it can wait – we’ll have to cancel dinner!”
Naturally, Hywel protests, but is told,
![]() |
| "I've got matters to discuss" |
“I’ve got matters to discuss with Vicky and Stacey.”
![]() |
| "We've got matters to discuss!" |
Hywel insists that they have matters to discuss – like Meilyr perhaps,
![]() |
| But she takes no notice of him |
but she turns and leaves.
![]() |
| Colin goes to extreme lengths to find out who the mystery woman is |
Anita is at Llwyncelyn when Colin arrives at the door, with a tin of yacht varnish in his hand; “I went all the way to Swansea for it,” he announces, “While I’m here, I might as well come in and say hello.”
![]() |
| "Colin – get out!" |
Sam, however, is having none of this and orders him out.
![]() |
| "Perhaps I shouldn't have come" |
Anita is having second thoughts by now, but is swayed by the thought of bass and dauphinoise potatoes.
![]() |
| "But it would be rude not to stay" |
“It would be rude not to stay,” she admits.
![]() |
| "She's somewhere else" |
Hywel sits alone in the Deri when Dani comes in and asks where Sheryl is; “Somewhere else,” he answers mournfully,
![]() |
| "She's always somewhere else!" |
“She’s always somewhere else!” Dani can tell he needs to talk; “I thought she’d gone to Africa to come to terms with her grief over losing Meilyr, but she has just managed to ignore it.
![]() |
| "Seeing me reminds her she doesn't want to be reminded" |
“Seeing me reminds her that she doesn’t want to be reminded.
![]() |
| Dani is concerned |
“I don’t think she’s interested in our relationship.”
![]() |
| "Go on – tell me who the mystery woman is!" |
Colin walks in and asks Gaynor who the mystery woman is;
![]() |
| "If it will shut you up – it's Dol" |
she informs him that it is Dol, but as she is at that moment coming into the Deri, they realise that it is not.
![]() |
| Dol objects to being stared at |
“What’s up? Can’t a working girl have a drink without being stared at?” Dol demands.
![]() |
| Sam amuses Anita with his tales of the sea . . . |
“Apart from the exotic location, that sounds just like one of Meic’s adventures,” Anita says, after hearing one of Sam’s tall tales,
![]() |
| . . . and then she remembers Meic |
then suddenly remembers Meic and adds, “I think it’s time I left!”
Sam hopes that she has had a good time, and as he helps her with her scarf,
![]() |
| An impetuous kiss . . . |
she leans forward and kisses him; then, instantly regretting it,
![]() |
| . . . immediately regretted |
she hurries out of the house, without another word.
