“The Wedding Day — continued”
"He's obviously not happy"
Sioned accuses her of lying, but Angela continues, “I’m not!   He’s obviously not happy – you can’t blame him for coming to me!”
"It's one lie after another with you!"
“You lied about your illness, and you’re doing the same again – it’s one lie after another with you!” shouts Sioned, “You lied about losing Ed’s baby, and let him believe you were still pregnant – that’s why you split up.”
"Tell her, Ed!"
When Angela turns to Ed for support, he tells her,
"You've gone too far this time!"
“You’ve gone too far this time, Angela!   Yes, it is a lie – she and Eifion split up and so she wants me to run away with her.   I couldn’t get rid of her!”
Sioned asks why she is doing this, and Ed says that it is all a fantasy, which Angela now believes herself.
"You did sleep with me!"
She is still insistent that he slept with her;  “Don’t fool yourself – you know it won’t work out between you two.”   Ed instructs her to leave.
Sioned reminds Angela, “Don’t forget I want my money back too – you have no right to keep it!”
"Tell me the truth!"
When Angela has gone, she turns to Ed;  “I have to know the truth – I won’t ask you again – If you did sleep with her, we’ll put it behind us, but tell me the truth!”
"No, I didn't sleep with her!"
Ed assures her that he did not sleep with Angela.
"I've lost everything because of Angela"
In the café, Eifion tells Debbie that he is not going to the wedding, and that he has lost everything because of Angela.
"Look at me – I'm a postman again!"
Mark comes in, back in his postman’s uniform, with the café’s post;  he apologises to Debbie for going on about Dewi.
"You're not much of a detective!"
“Perhaps you should forget about it – you cant be much of a detective if you can’t work out your sister’s skint!” Debbie tells him.   He is adamant that he will take out a loan to replay her, but she thinks they must pray for a miracle.
Sioned, out in the fields, thinking . . .
Sioned, in her wedding dress, stands in a field at Penrhewl;
. . . picking bluebells . . .
in tears she picks some bluebells
. . . and looking like she will have a good cry
and sits down on a log.
"You are coming, aren't you, Dad?"
Courtney finds Jim at APD and gives him a white rose for his buttonhole;  “You are coming, aren’t you?” she pleads.   He agrees that he wants to, but does not think it is a good idea, as there are still tensions between him and Eileen.
"I need you there!"
“That’s Mam’s fault, not Eileen’s,” insists Courtney, “She can’t celebrate without you – we have to stick together – I need you there too!”
Jim appears to have been won over
Jim comments that in that case he had better go and iron a shirt.
"What are you doing out here?"
Eileen finds Sioned out in the field;  “Angela has spoilt everything!” says Sioned,
"I wish Auntie Marian was here!"
“I wish Auntie Marian was here – she always knew what to do.   She and Uncle Bob loved each other so much – she knew he was the one, and that was it.”
She looks very disheartened
She tells Eileen that she will come when she is ready.
"Don't tell me you're going?"
Jim is all ready to go, in his suit, when Eifion comes into APD;  “Don’t tell me you’re going – you’ve forgiven Eileen for deceiving you?” he says.   Jim replies that he is going for Courtney’s sake, as she has had a tough time.   Eifion is unsympathetic;  “You should have thought about Courtney before blabbing about Angela!
Jim is now in a quandary
You told Debbie, and that’s like putting it in the Western Post – half the guests have cancelled!   If I were you, I’d stay away.”
The boys are playing in the barn . . .
The boys are playing in the barn
. . . as the guests arrive
as the guests arrive;
A last-minute check on the rings
Ed looks anxiously at the rings,
"Dad said he was coming"
and Courtney is watching out for her dad.
"Perhaps she's changed her mind!"
DJ remarks to Ed, “Perhaps she’s changed her mind!” which does nothing to settle Ed’s nerves.
Siôn and Gwyneth arrive
Siôn and Gwyneth walk in;  Megan comments to Anita,
"He doesn't have the right to give the blessing!"
“Look at them!   He doesn’t have the right to give the blessing!”   Anita points out that he is the chapel leader, but Megan adds, “Not for long!”
Finally, here comes the bride
Sioned arrives in the farmyard, much to Ed’s relief, and DJ turns on the music, Handel’s ‘Arrival of the Queen of Sheba’.
The wedding ceremony begins
Sioned and her mother process into the barn, followed by Courtney;  Ed and Sioned stand before the registrar.   “Dear friends, a warm welcome to you all on Sioned’s and Ed’s big day!”
"I wanted to give you this"
Angela enters the café, despite being told they are closed.   “I’m leaving Cwmderi, and I wanted to say I’m sorry and give you this.”
Debbie is rather taken aback
Debbie looks in the envelope and sees a lot of money;  she maintains that she cannot accept it.   “It’s Auntie Marian’s money – I can do what I want with it,” says Angela,
"Take it – you need it!"
“Take it – you need it!”
"What came over you?"
Debbie asks, “What came over you?   You had everything – husband, family, nice home, good job.”   Angela answers that she always felt something was missing.   She does not know yet where she will go.
Debbie asks if she is just leaving quietly, and she replies, “Not quite!”
"I do solemnly declare . . ."
The registrar continues, “Today’s wedding is a confirmation of the love, respect and true companionship they share.   Now, if you will repeat after me – I do solemnly declare that I know not of any lawful impediment . . .”
"Er – sorry!"   Gwyneth looks amused
This is interrupted by a cough;  DJ apologises.
A woman with a mission has arrived at Penrhewl
As Ed repeats these words, a red Fiat Punto arrives in the farmyard, and Angela gets out;  she looks around, and then heads towards the barn.   Sioned sees her;
She unsettles the bride and groom
both she and Ed turn round.
Angela looks pleased with herself
Angela sits down by Megan, as Sioned begins her declaration.
Mark has been summoned to the café;  he is told to lock the door, then is shown a large amount of money.
"Have you robbed a bank?"
“Have you robbed a bank?” he demands.   Debbie tells him it is a gift from Angela, and there is £5,000 there.   “I’m not sure you should keep it – people will turn against you,” Mark warns, but she replies that no-one will know they have it.   “You could give it to charity,” he suggests.
“Yes – or . . .” she smiles;
Mark begins to warm to this idea . . .
Mark’s face lights up,
. . . and they enthusiastically hug
and they laugh and hug.
The boys appear to be having a good feed
Accompanied by Albinoni’s Adagio, Arthur and Bobi are eating as the registrar congratulates Ed and Sioned.
Angela snaffles a glass of champagne
As Eileen serves champagne to Megan and Anita, Angela grabs a glass,
The happy couple, before Angela attacks them
then walks up to Ed and Sioned, commenting, “Ed looks as if he has been through the mill – what a shame!” and knocks over the pair of figurines.
Ed reveals to DJ that they are honeymooning in the Maldives.   Eileen leads Angela away before she causes any more trouble,
Courtney escapes from her mother's clutches
but not before she tries to hug Courtney and is roughly pushed away.
"I'm going to suggest you step down as leader"
As Siôn is about to pronounce the blessing, Megan informs him, “We’ve called an extraordinary meeting to discuss your situation.   I’m going to suggest that you step down as leader.”   Siôn suspects they will have a struggle to find Sunday preachers, but Megan is confident;  “I’m sure I’ll cope!”
"A blessing on your future together"
“It’s an honour to give the blessing to this marriage and on your future together,” says Siôn, “Faith, hope and love – these are the foundation of any marriage –
Love? — Yeah, right!
the greatest of these, of course, is love.”   Ed and Sioned kiss.
"I'm leaving Cwmderi"
In the kitchen of Penrhewl, Angela explains she has come to see Eileen and Courtney.   “I’m leaving Cwmderi – I’ll be out of your hair,” she says, “Sioned will always come first for you.   It doesn’t matter what she does – you’ll always forgive her.   Tara, Mam!”
Envelopes for Sioned and Courtney
Cadno comes in to see two envelopes on the table, and hands Courtney the one bearing her name.
"It doesn't look like she'll be back"
“Mam’s left – she’s going to contact me when she finds somewhere to live,” Courtney reads, “It doesn’t look like she’ll be back – I don’t care anyway!”
Significantly, in Sioned's envelope – nothing!
Eileen finds Sioned’s envelope is empty.
"Marrying you was one of the biggest mistakes of my life!"
Outside the Deri, Angela loads cases into her car;  she addresses Eifion and Jim, who have just emerged from the pub.   To Eifion she says, “I don’t want anything from you.   Marrying you was one of the biggest mistakes of my life!   And the same’s true of you Jim!   I’ve left a cheque to cover costs for Courtney until I come for her.”
"She's not living with you – no way!"
Jim is very forthright;  “She’s not living with you – no way!”
Angela’s parting shot at Eifion is,
"I told your boss you're not ill!"
“Your boss from work phoned – he was under the impression you were ill.   I told him you’re as fit as a fiddle!   Couldn’t tell a lie, could I?”
She looks quite satisfied with everything she has done . . .
With this she gets into the car,
. . . and takes another look at all that money
looks at her bag, full of cash and drives away from the village.
Cadno catches the bouquet
Sioned traditionally throws her bouquet behind her, where it is caught by Cadno.   Eileen advises Sioned that Angela has gone away and does not appear to be coming back.
Ed wants to forget all about the place
Ed remarks to DJ that he wants to forget all about this place for a while.
"Thank you for trusting me"
When they get into the car, Ed thanks Sioned for her trust in him, but is  shocked by her response.
"I don't have any trust whatsoever in you!"
“I don’t have any trust whatsoever in you!   I know you slept with Angela, but I wasn’t going to let you make a fool of me.   I gave you a chance to tell the truth – and you lied!”
He professes that he loves her and that it will not happen again.
"Step out of line once – and I go to the police!"
Her voice takes on a threatening tone;  “I know it won’t!   Step out of line once, and I’ll go to the police station to tell them where you were the night Dewi died!”
"You wouldn't do that!"
Ed cannot believe that she would do this, but is told, “I would!   You’ve had your last chance.   Angela was right – you’re going to regret marrying me!”
A happy marriage stretches ahead of them
As the family wave, Ed drives away, with tin cans rattling behind.
