1 January 2016

"What the dickens is all that banging?"
In the Deri flat, DJ is awakened by shouting and a frantic banging on Garry’s door;
"She's coming out of the coma!"
at last Garry opens the door and Siôn tells him, “She’s coming out of the coma!”
"How's the first morning of freedom feel?"
Inside, Gemma asks DJ, “How’s the first morning of freedom feel?   Any regrets?”   DJ wonders why should he regret spending the night with Cwmderi’s prettiest girl, and resolves to cook them breakfast.
"You must move all your soup kitchen stuff out!"
At breakfast-time in Cysgod y Glyn, Sara visits, and demands that Gethin remove all his soup kitchen equipment from the Antur within the hour.   No rent – no contract!
"An hour – or it goes into the skip!"
I’ll give you an hour – or it goes into the skip!” she tells him.
When she has flounced out, Ffion comments,
"She's a right madam!"
“She hasn’t changed at all – a right madam!” and Gethin wonders where he is going to store his equipment.
Mark, literally left holding the baby
Mark is once again looking after the baby when Vicky creeps quietly into the back door, and heads for the stairs.
"What time do you call this, Cinderella?"
He surprises her, asking, “What time do you call this, Cinderella?   I’m all on my own, looking after Nicky.”
He is somewhat sceptical about this new boyfriend
She tells him she has had the best night of her life at her new boyfriend’s house;  she has known him about a month, and he is ‘lush’.   She disappears upstairs for a shower.
"When shall we know if there is any brain damage?"
When Siôn and Garry arrive at the hospital, they are told that the doctor is with Britt;  Siôn asks when they will know if there has been any brain damage, but Garry insists, “She’ll be fine – she has to be!”
"I was starting a diet"
Faced with her cooked breakfast, Gemma says that she intended starting her diet today, but DJ answers, “You don’t need to lose weight –
"You're lovely as you are!"
you’re lovely as you are, so eat up!”   He adds that he had better go to Penrhewl later.
"How can you go back to her?"
Gemma is angry;  “How can you go back to her, after she took advantage of you?   You deserve better than to be treated like that!   If you go back to Penrhewl, you’ll be a farmhand for the rest of your life – I think you’ve got more to offer than that!”
Mark asks, “Did you meet this Dewi through the escort agency?”
"Lovely, honest, funny and kind"
Vicky describes him as lovely, honest, funny and kind.   “He must be odd, if he pays for women’s company,” suggests Mark, but she explains that he was fed up with going to works events on his own – but then he fell for her.
“Well, now he’s got your company free of charge, says Mark, “He’s on to a good thing!”
"He even gave me his credit card!"
Vicky disagrees with this evaluation and shows him the credit card, which brings a reaction of, “Don’t you think that’s dodgy?   I doubt your mother will be pleased about that.”
When they hear the sounds of Debbie coming downstairs, he reminds Vicky that it was New Year’s Eve here too.   Vicky begs him not to say anything about the card, “Or she will max it out!”   She secretes it under Nicky in the pram.
"It smells like it, too!"
Debbie staggers in complaining that it feels as if her stomach has been hit by an earthquake, and Mark comments, “It smells like it, too!”
"Tablets – quick!"
She collapses into a chair and urgently demands some tablets.
"What are we going to do with the soup kitchen stuff?"
Gethin has tried unsuccessfully to get temporary storage for the soup kitchen gear, and is considering winding up the charity, when Megan arrives, having been summoned by Ffion.
"I thought Gethin could use the vestry at the chapel"
“The soup kitchen is homeless,” Ffion tells her, “I thought Gethin could use the vestry at Bethania.”
"It's not possible!"
Megan is quite emphatic;  “It’s not possible!   The chapel is a place of worship, not a drop-in centre.   You’ll have to look somewhere else!”
Not even Ffion’s observation, “Jesus Christ would want you to help,” has any effect on Megan, who hurries away.
"She's everything I hate about people who attend chapel!"
“She’s everything I hate about people who attend chapel!” Ffion tells Gethin, and thinks that she could phone Gaynor to ask if they could use the school.
"I thought she was supposed to be waking up"
Seeing no sign of Britt waking, a nurse suggests Siôn should talk to her;
"Hey, Britt, time to get up!"
Garry says, “Hey, Britt, come on love, time to get up.”   Siôn adds that the children cannot wait to see her.
She opens her eyes . . .
She gradually opens her eyes, and struggles to speak,
. . . and her first thought is for the turkey
“You’ve not burnt the turkey, I hope.”   A look of relief appears on Garry’s face.
A bacon roll is too much for Debbie . . .
Mark places what appears to be a bacon roll in front of Debbie,
. . . who lurches off back to bed
but she cannot face it and decides to return to bed, warning baby Nicky not to make a sound.   Mark retrieves the credit card from under him and warns, “She’s bound to find out.   I don’t trust this bloke.
Vicky insists that Dewi is ‘the one’, and that this time she has landed on her feet.   She begs Mark not to let her mother spoil it again.
"When she finds out, I know nothing about it!"
“When she does find out, I know nothing about it!” he tells her.
"Come on, eat up your breakfast!"
Cadno encourages Arthur to eat his breakfast, then they can go and feed the calves;  after calling Bobi, she says that DJ will be back before long,
She compiles a text message
and sends a text.
Gemma suggests the ski slopes . . .
Outside the Deri, Gemma tries to persuade DJ to come away with her;  “We could go abroad, maybe – it’s the season for cleaning chalets and cooking for skiers – they pay a fortune!   Would you seriously consider it?”
. . . and DJ is very tempted
DJ agrees that he might,
The pleading message from Cadno
and as he leaves her receives the text, “Sorry, please come home”
Sara is moaning
He sees Megan outside the Antur, then Sara comes out, moaning about the state of the place.   Megan says that she hoped that Sara would reconsider evicting the soup kitchen.
"I can't afford sentiment!"
“Business is business,” she replies, “I can’t afford sentiment!”   When introduced to DJ, who explains he has ‘made some mistakes’, Sara haughtily pronounces, “Keep your mistakes away from our business!” and disappears back inside.
"Just what the village needs – another bighead!"
“Just what the village needs – another bighead!” remarks DJ, and as he walks away,
Megan looks up . . .
Megan looks up at Bethania
. . . and ponders
and seems to be having second thoughts.
“Britt attempts to ask, “Where’s Chester?”
They think something has gone wrong
and then lapses into groaning and heavy breathing;  a nurse is called, and tells them that this is quite normal, as her brain is getting tired.
"You should phone Elinor"
Garry suggests that Siôn should phone Elinor to let Catrin and Aaron know the good news, but Siôn refuses to leave Britt alone with him, after what happened.   “Are you saying this is my fault?” demands Garry.
They are at each other's throats again . . .
“Do you deny that you had anything to do with Craig turning up at Y Felin?” is Siôn’s answer.
. . . and the nurse puts her foot down
The nurse tells them that only one of them can stay, and Siôn insists that he is next of kin, so Garry reluctantly leaves.
Gaynor has confirmed to Ffion that she is happy for Gethin to use the school,
"I was a bit hasty"
when Megan returns, in more conciliatory mood.   “I was a bit hasty – I thought opening the chapel doors to non-members, after the terrible incident with Britt was all too much.
Megan admits that Ffion was right
“Ffion is right, the church has a duty to support the community.   I was very rash – your presence will aid security on the premises.”   Ffion points out that it will not harm the chapel’s profile in the community either.
"I was worried you wouldn't come back"
When DJ arrives at Penrhewl, Cadno confesses she was worried he would not come back.   “But I should have known that you would, because you’re a hard worker.”
"It's time I moved on"
“I’m not quite sure about that,” DJ tells her, “I’ve been thinking that it’s time to move on.   Sometimes I feel anger towards you, and I don’t want to feel like that.   You haven’t showed one ounce of appreciation for what I’ve done – and you wouldn’t visit me at one point!   I’m going to move on.”
"To her!"
“To her!” snarls Cadno,
"At least, someone thinks something of me!"
and DJ points out that at least someone thinks something of him.   He makes it clear that he is handing in his notice, as he cannot work at the farm with her any more.
A rather fraught atmosphere between Siôn and Garry
At Britt’s bedside, Siôn says that they should consider a holiday when she has recovered.   Then Garry returns, ordering, “I’m here now – shift!” and again accuses Siôn over the way he has behaved recently.
"You brought the gun into our lives!"
Siôn reminds him he is the one who brought a gun into their lives.
Britt takes all this in
As Britt’s eyes flicker open once again, Garry hisses, “You were the one who wanted to give her heart to a stranger – you wanted her to die!”
Siôn explains that at that point her chances looked bleak.   Garry is in no wise reassured;
"I'm going to make damn sure you pay!"
“The fact that Britt’s woken up doesn’t mean I’ve forgiven you your responsibility for this mess!   I’m going to make damn sure you pay for it!”   Of course, Britt hears all of this.
