When Ffion comes into Cysgod y Glyn, Gethin is on the phone, and tells her that it is only a customer;
![]() |
| "Sorry, I have to work late" |
he regrets he has to work late tonight.
![]() |
| Kelly suddenly has a lot of money |
Kelly has a message on her phone, and is absolutely amazed; her former house has been sold and she has £200,000 as her share of the divorce settlement.
![]() |
| "You'll have enough to buy your own place" |
“That’s fantastic news!” says Anita, “You’ll have enough to buy your own place. Don’t you want to be independent?” Kelly does not look keen on the idea.
![]() |
| "Stay at home this afternoon" |
Jason urges Sara, “Why don’t you stay at home this afternoon – you should have time to yourself,”
![]() |
| "I have to go to a meeting" |
but she will not hear of it, as she has a meeting. “I know this has come as a shock,” he continues, “But we’ll find a way to make it work!”
![]() |
| "Not a word to anyone – promise?" |
As she goes, she swears him to secrecy; “Not a word to anyone – promise?” and he does so.
![]() |
| So what is the first thing he does? |
But as soon as she is out of sight, he phones his mother; “I’ve got something to tell you, but you have to promise not to tell anyone!”
![]() |
| "Penthouse flat or country cottage?" |
In the café, Kelly is looking at property details from Tomos ac Ellis; “Penthouse flat or country cottage?” she asks Ffion, who points out that Anita will find it odd without her. “No, she’s looking forward to it,” Kelly replies.

| Ffion catches a glimpse of Gethin |
Then Ffion notices Gethin going into the salon across the road.
![]() |
| "Congratulations!" |
As Anita looks at a photo album, she receives a phone call from Diane; “Oh, congratulations! No, I won’t breathe a word!
![]() |
| Tara, Mam-gu!" |
“Tara, Mam-gu!”
Kelly comes in, and in answer to Anita’s query if she has found anywhere, she replies, “Give me a chance! There’s nothing to keep me here now, is there?”
Dai, with his toolbox, arrives to look at the damp patch in the back bedroom. “Did you know that Garry Godfather is running the Deri now?” he asks them.
![]() |
| "I haven't heard about any baby!" |
Anita offers him congratulations on Sara and the baby, but he looks at her blankly.
“Is Sara preggers?” asks Kelly, and of course Anita instructs them both not to tell anyone.
![]() |
| "Britt will be cooking at the Deri" |
Sheryl and Gethin are told by Dani, “Britt will be doing the cooking at the Deri from now on,” and they foresee Anita not being happy about that. Indeed when Anita is seen approaching, Dani runs to hide in the back room,
![]() |
| "Have you seen Dani?" |
and Sheryl tell Anita that she has gone out. Sheryl goes upstairs to the flat with Gethin.
![]() |
| "What is the matter with you?" |
Sara is rather quiet when she returns from the meeting, but soon explodes, “The meeting was great – what happened after was not so great! Anita came to congratulate me because I’m pregnant! What’s the matter with you? You told your mother, she told Anita and Anita told the world!”
![]() |
| "Babies make a lot of noise!" |
Jason puts the blame on his mother, adding, “People would find out anyway – you can’t hide a baby for ever – they make a lot of noise!”
![]() |
| "I'm not sure I want this baby!" |
He is shocked when she sits down and reveals she does not know whether she wants this baby.
![]() |
| "We lost a bit of our relationship" |
Sheryl tells Gethin, “I’m not saying that it was the only thing that kept us together, but when we lost Meilyr, we lost a bit of our relationship. Every time I speak to Hywel now, I get the impression he’s in another world – and happy to be there.
![]() |
| "It feels that we're living separate lives" |
“It feels that we’re living separate lives.”
![]() |
| "We can't do that and start a family" |
Sara emphasises, “We vowed to put all our energy into this business, – we can’t do that and start a family.” Jason protests that other people have done just that, but she replies, “The timing is all wrong!”
![]() |
| He tries to persuade her . . . |
He points out that they are healthy, with a solid relationship and steady job. She tells him that she is not ready, and when he begs her to keep the baby, she tells him,
![]() |
| . . . but she presents him with a choice |
“You’ve got a choice – to support me, or not!”
![]() |
| "I'll always support you!" |
He assures her that he will always support her.
![]() |
| Kelly orders a full makeover |
Kelly goes into the salon to book an appointment for, “Hair, nails, waxing – the lot!” Dani suspects she has a new man, but Kelly insists, “I don’t need a bloke!” Anita comes in and catches Dani this time, asking when the Deri will reopen, as she does not want to lose too much pay.
![]() |
| Dani waffles about builders . . . |
Dani prevaricates, stressing that builders always take longer than they say, but finally admits,
![]() |
| . . . before coming to the unpalatable point |
“There are going to be a few changes. Britt will be doing the cooking now – it’s not exactly sacking you, but we don’t need two in the kitchen.”
![]() |
| "Unfair dismissal, or what-have-you!" |
Kelly is angry; “You’re the boss, are you? Well, enjoy it while you can! We’re taking you to court – for unfair dismissal, or what-have-you. Cancel my appointment!
![]() |
| "See you in court!" |
“See you in court!” She storms out, followed by Anita.
![]() |
| "Is it really the right thing to do?" |
Sheryl asks Gethin if it is really the right thing for her to do, and Gethin replies, “You have to do whatever makes you happy.” She tells him that applies to him, too.
![]() |
| "My expertise is running away and hiding" |
“You know me,” he says, “I’m not best when it comes to fighting for something – my expertise is running away and hiding.”
![]() |
| "That's not true any more" |
Sheryl maintains that is not true any more and that he has changed.
![]() |
| When Ffion comes out of the shop . . . |
As Ffion comes out of the shop, she sees Gethin emerge from the salon flat,
![]() |
| . . . this is the sight that greets her |
and Sheryl hugs him; she is not pleased about this.
![]() |
| "Sacking you without telling you!" |
Back at Anita’s, Kelly rages, “It’s disrespectful, sacking you without telling you! But you can walk into another job – you can turn your hand to anything.”
![]() |
| "Hey, what's this?" |
She finds the photo album, entitled ‘Kelly”, in which Anita has saved her newspaper articles and pictures, saying that she is very proud of Kelly.
![]() |
| Anita is very proud of her |
“You’re very talented and strong – you don’t take any nonsense!”
![]() |
| "A strong woman with a mind of her own!" |
Kelly answers that with a dating profile like that – ‘a strong woman with a mind of her own’ – she will not get many takers.
![]() |
| "I don't know what I'll do without you!" |
“I don’t know what I’ll do without you! I’ll miss you!” laments Anita.
Kelly was under the impression that Anita wanted her to move out, but Anita explains she thought that was what Kelly wanted. “What about our girlie nights?
![]() |
| "I don't want to move out!" |
“I don’t want to move out!” Kelly assures her.
Anita asks if she could really win an unfair dismissal case, and Kelly replies,
![]() |
| "It was woerth it just to see her face!" |
“No chance – but it was worth it just to see her face!”
![]() |
| Ffion sees this over his shoulder |
As Gethin arrives back at Cysgod y Glyn, he receives a text from Sheryl, thanking him.
![]() |
| "That cwtch cheered you up, then?" |
“That cwtch from Sheryl cheered you up, then?” asks Ffion, jealously, and he explains he was giving her some advice, and also receiving some.
![]() |
| Gethin's rejection letter |
He shows Ffion a letter from The Open University.
“I didn’t know you’d applied for a University place,” says Ffion,
![]() |
| "They turned me down" |
and he answers that it does not matter, as they turned him down. “Why didn’t you tell me – I could have helped you.”
“What? Sit my exams for me? I’m too stupid to do it for myself!” he tells her, and then she asks why he went to Sheryl.
![]() |
| "I didn't want you to know I'd failed" |
“I didn’t want you to know I’d failed – I wanted to prove myself to you and the children, to show I could do something of value. I’m so ashamed!”
![]() |
| Gethin – "the most intelligent"? — please! |
Ffion (rather unrealistically) assures him, “You’re the most intelligent and loving person I know. I couldn’t have got through the last year without you! I’m a silly woman, degree or not.”
![]() |
| Harmony is restored |
They embrace.
![]() |
| "I'd go nuts if I gave up the salon!" |
Dani admits to Sheryl that running a business is a minefield, but she will not give up the salon, as she would go nuts.
![]() |
| "I'm going to Africa!" |
“Good, because I’ve got a favour to ask,” Sheryl replies, “I’m going to Africa, and I want you to look after the salon for me.”
![]() |
| "What? On safari?" |
She is not, as Dani assumes, going on safari, but working for a charity for a couple of months.
“Gethin made me realise what I really wanted, she continues, “I want to make a difference. I haven’t told Hywel yet, but I don’t intend to leave him behind.”
![]() |
| "What if he doesn't want to go?" |
Dani asks what happens if he does not want to go,
![]() |
| Looks as if she is getting controlling again |
and the reply is, “He won’t have any choice!”
![]() |
| Jason sits, dejected |
Jason is looking rather subdued on the sofa when Dai, complete with flowers, comes in, asking,
![]() |
| "How are you, Big Daddy?" |
“How are you, Big Daddy?”
![]() |
| "False alarm!" |
Sara rather apologetically announces that it was a false alarm, and she is not in fact pregnant, confessing she did not do the test as she was too scared.
Dai takes the opportunity to leave them alone.
![]() |
| "Why did you put me through this?| |
Jason looks devastated; “Why did did you put me through this, if you didn’t know you were pregnant?”
“I felt that I was, and I wanted to see if you felt the same,” she admits, ![]() |
| "Well, looks as if I've failed, then" |
and Jason concludes that in that case he has failed, and wonders where that leaves them.
![]() |
| "I want children – one day" |
She insists, “I want children – one day – but I want things to be perfect first!”
