| Mark's interview begins |
In an interview room with barred windows, DS Davies turns on the recorder at 08:10. Mark is accompanied by his duty solicitor.
![]() |
| "Your fingerprints were all over the place" |
The interrogation begins; “Your fingerprints were all over the place – you’re not making things easy for yourself. Your red Fiat Punto was seen driving away – were you driving it?” The solicitor indicates Mark should not reply. “Have you ever been near Dewi Owen’s home?”

| "You've got the wrong man" |
Mark replies that he has nothing to say, except she has got the wrong man.
“You had every reason to be there – your ex-partner’s daughter was in a relationship with him, and for some reason she’s claiming she is responsible for the attack! She came in last night, trying to protect you, but her evidence didn’t stand up. She must know what you did. It’s time to start telling the truth!”
![]() |
| "The gits kept me in overnight!" |
As Debbie opens the café, Vicky rushes in, reporting that the police did not believe her; “I just got a warning, and had to admit I was lying. Then the gits kept me in overnight to teach me a lesson! Mark is still being questioned – I hope I haven’t made things worse!”
![]() |
| "I was expecting breakfast!" |
In Y Felin, Iolo comes downstairs, joking, “I was expecting breakfast!” but Siôn tells him he chose to stay, so he can make his own.
![]() |
| "You and Britt have had good times too" |
Iolo continues, “I’ve not slept here for years – there are tons of memories! You and Britt have had good times too.”
![]() |
| "But they're all over now!" |
“But they’re all over now,” sighs Siôn, even though Iolo stresses that Britt is not thinking straight, and that she wants someone to blame. Siôn regrets, “I let her down time and time again! It’s a miracle the marriage lasted so long. The truth is, we don’t have much in common.”
![]() |
| "Garry's trying to run the show" |
Iolo warns him that Garry is trying to come between them, so he can run the show; “Now is the time to be strong!”
![]() |
| "I'll speak to Britt" |
Siôn agrees that he will speak to Britt about the future of the Deri.
At Llwyncelyn, Sam is determined to make himself useful;
![]() |
| "Just leave the laundry to me!" |
“I’ll clear up the breakfast things – you go to work,” he tells Gaynor. “The clothes will be washed, dried and ironed by the time you get home.” Gaynor concludes that he has been well-trained at sea, and suggests he go into the village, as he is bound to see Colin there.

| The solicitor again advises Mark not to answer |
DS Davies asks, “Had you arranged to vist Dewi Owen on Friday, or did you just happen to go there?” Again the solicitor advises Mark not to answer, so the DS continues, “When you were there, for some reason you lost your temper with Mr Owen, knocked him unconscious and ran away when a neighbour found you – otherwise you would have killed him, wouldn’t you? You were trying to settle a row between him and Vicky Collins.”
![]() |
| "Stuff your advice!" |
this Mark turns angrily to the solicitor and tells him, “Stuff your advice!” He asks the DS,
![]() |
| "Yes, I did go to Dewi's house" |
“Couldn’t you have found me a better solicitor? Yes, I did go to Dewi’s house. He’s been nasty to Vicky in Cwmderi and I was angry with him. The door was open, I went in and there he was, passed out on the floor, with a cut on his head and blood everywhere. When I checked his pulse, a woman walked in and thought I’d attacked him, so I panicked and ran away – a mistake, I realise that now.”
“Why should I believe you?” DS Davies demands;
![]() |
| The solicitor does not look happy |
he simply answers that he is telling the truth, and that if they had found him a better solicitor, they would have heard it sooner.
![]() |
| "I might stay in Cwmderi for a bit" |
Sam meets Hywel in the shop and says that he is thinking of staying in Cwmderi for a bit;
![]() |
| Just what Colin did not want to hear |
this does not go down well with Colin behind the counter.
Hywel tells Sam about the sponsored cycle ride to Caernarfon, for a cot death charity, as his baby recently died, so Sam immediately promises £50.
Hywel collects a cake that Eileen had promised him for the cake sale in the Deri, also in aid of the charity.
“I always support charities that are close to people’s hearts,” Sam tells him,
![]() |
| Quick-thinking Colin . . . |
while Colin grabs a commercial swiss roll, tips it from its box and presents it to Hywel.
![]() |
| . . . presents a freshly-baked swiss roll |
“I made this specially,” he lies, and Hywel is very grateful.
Gethin comes in and is introduced to Sam.
![]() |
| "Where have you been hiding him?" |
“You’ve never mentioned your father – where have you been hiding him?” asks Gethin,
![]() |
| "Ask him where he's been hiding all these years!" |
and Colin scowls that he should ask Sam where he has been all these years.
![]() |
| Mark is now free to go . . . |
At 09:40, the DS brings the interview to a close, advising Mark that he is free to go, on police bail, but may be rearrested.
![]() |
| . . . but he reiterates he is not guilty |
Again Mark stresses he is not guilty.
![]() |
| A plethora of home-made cakes |
The table in the Deri is laden with cakes for sale, and more donations are brought in.
![]() |
| "No trouble – or you'll be banned!" |
Garry warns Siôn not to cause trouble, or he will be banned. Siôn asks, “Is your sister coming over? I shall be civil, but I want to sort out what will happen to this place.” Garry snarls that he is not fit to run a pub,
![]() |
| "I agree with you one hundred per cent!" |
and Siôn affably replies, “You know what? I agree with you one hundred per cent! I just want to discover the next step.”
![]() |
| Vicky reminisces . . . |
As Vicky looks on CnocCnoc at the pictures of her and Dewi, Debbie announces she has a visitor.
![]() |
| . . . then Mark returns |
On seeing Mark, Vicky is overjoyed, although wondering if what she did has jeopardised things. Mark reassures her that she went out of her way to help,
![]() |
| 'Cwtch Grŵp' |
and Debbie admits that she should have believed in him from the start.
![]() |
| "I was sorry to hear about your little boy" |
Sam sympathises with Sheryl about her little boy,
![]() |
| He writes his cheque |
and then writes a cheque, making it payable to ‘Meilyr’s Fund’. When Mark and Debbie walk in, everyone feels rather awkward, but Colin goes over for a word with Mark.
![]() |
| "Everyone loses the plot now and again" |
“How are you, partner? I’m glad you’re out, but everyone loses the plot now and again and do things we regret. Just hope this bloke comes round.”
![]() |
| "I didn't attack him!" |
This angers Mark; “I didn’t attack him – I’m surprised you think so little of me! I’m innocent, and don’t tell anyone otherwise!”
![]() |
| Garry gives Britt her tablets |
In Garry’s flat, with him keeping a careful eye on proceedings, Britt tells Siôn, “I know you blame Garry, but our situation is not about him – it’s about my feelings for you. Our marriage was a challenge to see if two such different people could make it.”
![]() |
| "And we failed miserably" |
Siôn replies, “And we failed miserably, didn’t we?”
![]() |
| "There's no point in trying again" |
She goes on to say that there is no point in trying again, as the children would only suffer.
![]() |
| "I don't want anything to do with the Deri" |
Siôn emphasises, “I don’t want anything to do with the Deri any more. You keep it – you’d be doing me a big favour. I don’t want a penny for it!” He puts on his scarf and leaves.
![]() |
| "I'm proud of you!" |
Garry tells her he is proud of her, and encourages her to go for a lie down. Then he rings Rob again;
![]() |
| On the phone to his dodgy solicitor |
“Is it ready? I’ll come over to get it now!”
![]() |
| "They looked at me as if I were a serial killer!" |
As they arrive back at Maes-y-Deri, Mark comments that they looked at him as if he were a serial killer. Vicky proposes going to the hospital, as the sound of her voice might help Dewi to come round.
![]() |
| "He's the only one who knows the truth" |
Mark is in favour, as he is the only one who knows the truth, but Debbie advises against it.
![]() |
| "Wait for the forensics!" |
“The cops won’t let you near him, they’ll think that Mark sent you. Wait for the forensics to prove Mark didn’t do it!”
![]() |
| Land Registry Transfer Document TR1 |
Garry, with his legal document, visits Y Felin;
![]() |
| Iolo peruses the document |
“What’s the rush? Dad is not going anywhere,” protests Iolo. Garry tells Siôn he realises how much of a burden the Deri is to him.
![]() |
| "The Deri is being transferred to Britt . . . and YOU!" |
Iolo notices the Deri is being transferred to Britt . . . and Garry!
Garry answers, “Yes, Britt insisted! She is afraid she can’t run it on her own.
![]() |
| "She doesn't want all Siôn's work to go to waste!" |
“She doesn’t want it to close – and all Siôn’s work to go to waste!”
![]() |
| "Go and fetch my glasses, Iolo" |
Siôn however simply asks Iolo to fetch his glasses.
![]() |
| A load off Siôn's mind |
Garry informs Siôn, “By signing this, the debt will be wiped out for ever!” This of course is what Siôn wants, and he tells Iolo that the pub has always been a curse, which he does not want to pass on to his children.
Iolo will not desist; “You have lost the plot! I don’t know why I’m here – you can obviously look after yourself!”
![]() |
| He signs without hesitation |
Siôn signs the document.
![]() |
| "Not a bad swiss roll!" |
In the Deri, all the cakes have been sold, except one; as they each have a slice of Colin’s ‘home-made’ swiss roll,
![]() |
| "I'll get the recipé from Colin" |
Sheryl says she will have to ask him for the recipé.
![]() |
| "Let's start a new charity – Meilyr's Fund" |
Hywel finds the cheque, payable to ‘Meilyr’s Fund’ and Sheryl suggests they start an account in that name for the new charity.
![]() |
| "A lovely way to keep his name alive!" |
“It’s a lovely way to keep his name alive!”
Britt is amazed that it is so easy to transfer the Deri into her name, while Garry dismissively suggests,
![]() |
| "Siôn can concentrate on saving souls!" |
“Siôn can concentrate on saving souls now – he’ll do a better job of that than running a pub!”
“Right, you can sign here,” he tells her,
![]() |
| "I want to know what I'm signing" |
but she wants to know what she is signing first. “Don’t you trust me?” he demands;
![]() |
| "Why is your name on here?" |
she enquires why his name is also on the document; “I’m the witness, aren’t I?” he replies, “Come on, my solicitor wants to see it as soon as possible.”
![]() |
| But of course he is the other 'Transferee' |
With difficulty, Britt adds her signature at the foot of the document,
![]() |
| "Well, that has gone like clockwork!" |
and Garry, with a satisfied smile, hands her a drink.
