Ricky looks at the books Courtney brought over last night and leaves her a message;
![]() |
| "Let me know if you need them" |
“You left in such a hurry last night, your books are here – I’ll bring them over before school, if you like. Let me know if you need them.”
![]() |
| "I want you to look after Dani" |
Gwern is helping Garry pack, and Garry asks him a favour; “I want you to look after Dani while I’m away.”
![]() |
| "What – like a boss?" |
“What – like a boss?” enquires Gwern, and Garry tells him that he will be boss of the family.
![]() |
| "I won't be away long, Dani" |
As Gwern goes to get his coat for school, Garry assures Dani that he will not be away long, and will definitely be back for the wedding.
![]() |
| "You're so selfish!" |
“You’re so selfish!” moans Dani, “Leaving when Britt and Chester need you – and Gwern!” He answers that he is only trying to do what is right, prove himself to the family and thank Neil and Gloria for what they did.
![]() |
| "I might come back as a better man" |
“He promises to take care of himself, and perhaps come back as a better man.
![]() |
| "Anything could happen to you!" |
“You’re not going to Corfu! Anything could happen to you!” protests Dani, “Don’t do this – don’t go!”
![]() |
| "This is so uncharacteristic of Garry" |
As Gethin is about to leave for work, Ffion muses, “Garry of all people, doing voluntary work abroad! It’s hard to believe that Garry Monk would travel to the ends of the earth without any perks in it for him.
![]() |
| "Perhaps it's to do with Craig's gang" |
“Maybe he is doing something with Craig’s gang – they’re abroad too. Perhaps they’re up to something with Garry, and the fewer that know about it, the better.”
![]() |
| "You've been watching too many films" |
Gethin insists that she has been watching too many films, and encourages her to forget about Garry.

| Just what DJ needed – a plate of kippers |
DJ has called at the café on his way to market, and Kelly brings him a plate of kippers, at which Debbie turns up her nose.
![]() |
| "I left the kitchen window open!" |
Kelly assures her that the kitchen window is open, to dispel the odour.
Debbie remarks on the unconventional food for the wedding; “Curries from Cwm Delhi, and puddings from Eileen!”
![]() |
| There is a bone stuck in DJ's throat |
Then there is the sound of choking from DJ, who gasps that there is a bone stuck in his throat. A drink of water will not shift it.
![]() |
| "Sorry about last night, Courtney!" |
On the way to school, Ricky apologises about last night, and says that it was not what he had intended. When another boy, Jack Ellis, comes over to talk to Courtney, Ricky excuses himself and walks on.
DJ croaks that it hurts when he swallows,
![]() |
| "Why did you put kippers on the menu?" |
and Debbie takes Kelly to task for putting kippers on the menu. Debbie’s main concern is that DJ might report the café; “That’s the last thing I want – a Health and Safety scandal!’
![]() |
| A lump of stale bread is pushed into his mouth |
Kelly has a brainwave, takes a piece of stale bread from the kitchen and stuffs it into DJ’s mouth, with the instruction, “Chew it well and swallow! Uncle Meic’s old remedy.”
![]() |
| "Ooh – it worked! The bone is gone!" |
He does so, and is relieved that the bone has gone. Kelly tells him that the kippers are on the house.
![]() |
| "Any chance of a full breakfast?" |
DJ sees an opportunity here, and replies, “I’ve gone off kippers after that experience – can I have a full breakfast instead?” Kelly assures him that nothing matters more than keeping a customer happy.
![]() |
| "Passport, tickets, money" |
Garry has assembled everything he needs for his trip, but Dani sits silently;
![]() |
| "I'll phone you every day" |
“I swear I won’t take any risks – I’ll phone you every day,” he says.
![]() |
| "I'll give up this wedding planning!" |
Dani offers to give up this wedding planner business, as she has not been paying sufficient attention to him lately.
![]() |
| "I'm not angry with you" |
“I’m not angry with you – that’s not why I’m going,” says Garry, soothingly, but she pleads she does not want to be apart from him.
![]() |
| "I don't want you to go!" |
She admires what he is doing, but she does not want him to do it.
![]() |
| "I suppose I'll have to see how I cope" |
She resolves to see how she can cope with everything on her own. “You’re tougher than you think,” Garry tells her, “Just not as tough as me!” He kisses her.
![]() |
| "Don't bring back a bottle of Ouzo" |
Garry comes out of the Deri and gets into the taxi, driven by John Post; “Promise me one thing,” says Dani, “Don’t bring back a bottle of Ouzo – I hate the stuff!”
![]() |
| "It's trafficking or drugs!' |
Debbie struts across the road and asks Dani, “Do you believe this story about voluntary work? Trafficking or drugs are behind it – you’ll see!”
![]() |
| "At least, he's making an effort!" |
Dani defends her husband; “He’s helping other people less fortunate than himself, and you’re giving him abuse? At least he’s making an effort!”
![]() |
| "No, I don't know exactly when he is coming back" |
Nearby, Gethin tells Ffion that he has no idea when Garry will be back, except that it should be before the wedding; Ffion suspects that he is keeping something from her.
![]() |
| A final kiss . . . |
Garry and Dani have a final kiss,
![]() |
| . . . and John Post drives away |
and the taxi drives away.
![]() |
| "Sorry about last night" |
On the way home from school Courtney catches up with Ricky, and again he apologises for last night.
![]() |
| "It won't happen again" |
“I’m sorry for trying to kiss you – it was a stupid thing to do, and it won’t happen again!”
![]() |
| "Oh, that's a shame!" |
“Oh, that’s a shame!” she replies, “Do you want to walk me home?” and they continue, hand in hand.
![]() |
| Kelly, wielding the brush |
Kelly is sweeping up in the café, and is surprised that Debbie is keeping her on.
![]() |
| "You were so calm and efficient!" |
She praises Kelly’s quick reactions when saving DJ from the fishbone. “I’m glad Meic’s trick worked – I was petrified,
![]() |
| "Don't show the customer your weakness!" |
“but rule number one in a crisis – don’t show the customer your weakness!” Kelly says.
![]() |
| Ffion is not pleased to see DS Davies |
Ffion is disturbed when Gethin returns from work followed by DS Davies, who has important news for them; “Craig has decided to plead not guilty, and I have to ask you both to give evidence.”
![]() |
| "Craig will be furious!" |
Ffion predicts that Craig will be furious; Gethin adds that so will his mates. “What are you not telling me?” demands Ffion,
![]() |
| "Garry told me last week" |
and is informed that Garry found out last week they were back in the country. Ffion is panic-stricken;
![]() |
| "Are we going to hang around as a target?" |
“What are we supposed to do – hang around here as a target?”
![]() |
| The young couple, hand in hand |
“You’re different to other boys your age,” says Courtney,
![]() |
| "You're kinder and more mature" |
“You’re kinder and more mature. That’s why I liked being with Mathew at first, as I thought I wanted to be with an older man, but I was wrong. As for Jack Ellis – he’s just a friend.”
![]() |
| Ahhh! Isn't it romantic? |
This time Courtney kisses Ricky.
![]() |
| Gethin suggests giving evidence from behind a screen |
Gethin suggests giving evidence behind a screen in court; “Craig will know it’s us, and the screen will just show how scared we are!” exclaims Ffion, “And once he knows, he will come after us! Why keep this from me?
![]() |
| "We're in danger – and Arwen too!" |
“We’re in danger – and Arwen too! How can I make sure she’s safe when she goes to nursery?”
![]() |
| "Just remain vigilant" |
DS Davies’ only advice is to remain vigilant and report any suspicions to the police,
![]() |
| That advice is no good to Ffion |
but Ffion does not consider this to be sufficient.
![]() |
| "Two large gin and tonics, please, Dani!" |
When Debbie and Kelly call at the Deri, Dani is already rather flustered behind the bar;
![]() |
| "And now the dishwasher's on the blink!" |
“I forgot to change the barrel, and the dishwasher is on the blink!”
DJ appears and tries to get a free pint out of Debbie, as he says his throat is still sore,
![]() |
| "And a pint for him, Dani" |
and Debbie agrees to this in order to shut him up. When he mentions that whisky is also good for throats,
![]() |
| "This pint is the last freebie you're getting!" |
Kelly turns to him and announces, “This pint is the last freebie you’re getting! Chew your food properly, as everyone knows there are bones in fish!”
![]() |
| "They could have been watching for ages!" |
At Cysgod y Glyn, Ffion draws the curtains, warning, “They could be waiting right outside the house now – they could have been watching for ages!
![]() |
| "And you've know about this for a week!" |
“You’ve known about this for a week – no wonder you were acting so weirdly – panicking about the key and fitting a new lock.”
![]() |
| "This is the safest place we can be" |
Gethin tries to persuade her that nothing is going to happen, and that their home is the safest place they can be, but she answers,
![]() |
| "We have no idea what's going to happen next!" |
“We have no idea what is going to happen next – I don’t want to be a prisoner in my own house, but the thought of leaving it is making me ill!”
![]() |
| "I promise to look after the two of you" |
Gethin urges her to calm down and promises he will look after her and Arwen; “I’ll do anything to protect the two of you!” he stresses.
![]() |
| "You can go in the spare room!" |
“She can sleep in our bed tonight – you can go in the spare room!” Ffion tells him, “While there’s a chance that Craig’s gang is nearby, I’m not letting her out of my sight!”
