21 October 2016

Dani is trapped . . .
Dani sits disconsolately in the cellar,
. . . and expects to be there all night
resigned to spending the night there.
"I was worried about you!"
It is almost midnight when Britt arrives back at the flat, and Colin is anxiously waiting up for her.   She says that she has been for a walk, and he chides her, “That’s dangerous – look what happened to Gwyneth! Are you coming to bed now?”
"I've got to go back to the Deri!"
Britt decides, after looking at the key in her hand, that she must return to the Deri, and dashes off.
Debbie is doing some sums . . .
Debbie is burning the midnight oil, poring over the café accounts,
. . . which do not seem to add up
and does not look happy at what she sees.
"You're off your head!"
Britt releases Dani, who shouts, “You’re off your head!” as she hurries up to the bar and picks up her phone to call the police.
"She locked me in the cellar!"
Colin, still in his pyjamas, comes in at that moment and asks what is going on.   “She locked me in the cellar!” squeals Dani,
"Why did you do that?"
“Because I was going to tell the Detention Centre that Chester plans to escape on the wedding day.”
Britt is now very apologetic, and concedes that she ought to be reported to the police, as it is what she deserves,
"Let's all wait until the morning"
but Colin attempts to calm things;  “Wait until the morning – we’re all shattered, and remember the children.”   He takes Britt home,
"I don't know what came over me!"
as she explains that she does not know what came over her.
Debbie seems preoccupied
Next morning, Debbie looks anxious in the café;  Vicky and Dol are having a coffee, as their shift does not start until nine, and explain they are working to rule, as Vicky’s pay was docked.
"Direct action!"
“There are only three of us, so a work to rule is a good idea,” says Dol, “Direct action!”   Debbie warns them not to let the bosses walk all over them.
"Nicaraguan coffee!"
Kelly tells Dol that they are serving Nicaraguan coffee this week, and next week it will be Ecuadorian;  her response is, “I’ll stick to Welsh Coffee!”
Debbie points out that the café cannot stretch to all these expensive coffees,
"Well, those three are drinking it!"
but Kelly proposes getting the customers’ tastebuds used to them, and then putting up the prices.
"We're losing money"
Debbie protests that she is losing money now, and cannot afford to continue doing  that.
Tyler will compromise
Tyler asks Iolo if he will change his mind;  if not, he does not want this to come between them, and reluctantly agrees that Chester can come to the wedding.
"Why are women of a certain age so grumpy?"
Kelly struts into the Deri;  “I know you’re not open, but I need a break from Debbie,” she tells Dani, “Why are women of a certain age so grumpy?   I offer fresh ideas, but she doesn’t want to know!”
"You look awful!"
Then she looks at Dani and remarks, “You look awful!”
"I was busy organising a wedding!"
Dani replies that she had a lot to do about the wedding until yesterday, when Iolo decided he wanted to organise his own wedding.
Kelly leaves when Colin and Britt come in;
"I'm afraid of what you'll do next!"
“I could do without the hassle of reporting you, but I’m afraid of what you’ll do next!” Dani tells Britt.
"Sorry, Dani, I lost control"
Britt admits that she lost control, lost her temper, and she has always been like that.   However, Dani did not deserve what happened and she apologises, asking if Dani has spoken to Garry.
"I don't want him to know we can't work together!"
Dani is quite adamant, “I’m not phoning him – I don’t want him to know that you and I can’t work together without one of us locking the other one in the cellar!   Come and see me this afternoon.”
"I shall wait and see what Chester says"
Britt agrees to come back after visiting Chester, and says she has not yet made up her mind what to do about the wedding invitation;  she will wait and see what Chester has to say.
"Gwyneth's having a day off"
At Awyr Iach, Dol advises Jason that nine is their starting time, and that Gwyneth has a day off – with personal problems.   He tells them that Diane’s birthday is on Sunday, and he is collecting for a present.
A grand total of 23p
Vicky, understandably, has no money, and Dol can only amass 23p.
As Diane comes in, there is a collective groan;
"Why did you give Gwyneth the day off?"
Jason says, “As we have this order for Ysgol Ffos y Haearn, why did you give Gwyneth the day off?”   Diane angrily replies that she did not;  “Gwyneth gave Gwyneth the day off!”   Then she turns to Vicky and Dol;  “Isn’t it time you two started work?”
"It would help if you did something!"
She tells Jason it is not easy to run Awyr Iach while Sara is ‘off sick’.   “It would help if you did something other than standing around!” she rants at Jason,
Dol and Vicky are amused
while the two ‘workers’ chuckle.
Chester is not very complimentary about his situation
At the Detention Centre, Chester moans, “I’m not eating much, and can’t sleep, as there is so much noise here.   I hate it – did you bring the stuff I wanted?”   Britt confirms that the warden is checking it,
"Is the invitation there?"
and Chester demands, “Is the invitation there?”
She asks him directly if he is planning to escape;  at first he is silent,
"You'll have to arrange transport – and money!"
then asks, “You love me, don’t you?   You’ll have to arrange transport for me – and I need money!”
"That's not the answer!"
She tells him that he knows that is not the answer, and that he will ruin Iolo’s and Tyler’s big day.
"I can't stay here!"
“It’s my only chance – I can’t stay here!” insists Chester.
“If you can’t see the consequences of your actions, you’re in the right place!   You are not invited to the wedding!” states Britt.   He argues that he has to be, as there is no other way to . . .   “You’re staying here for your own good.”
"You've failed as a mother!"
He becomes angry;  “You don’t want me around, do you?   Let me remind you – you’ve failed as a mother!” Britt argues that she may have done, but that she is doing the right thing now.   “Help me, Mam!” he pleads, and as she gets up, she replies that she is doing just that.
The warden glares at Chester
Britt walks towards the door of the visiting room, and Chester shouts, “Mam, Mam, please!”   A burly warder approaches him.
"Dani is knackered!"
Kelly marches into number 7 and exclaims to Iolo, “Dani is knackered from organising your wedding!”
"We're organising it now"
Iolo replies that he and Tyler are now doing the organisation themselves, and it is none of her business.   It is not only women who can arrange weddings – they are not stupid.
"You have no idea what's involved!"
“You have no idea what’s involved,” protests Kelly, “So I assume you have sorted out tables, chairs, tabecloths, seating plan, cutlery, serviettes, favours, flower arrangements, outfits,
Iolo find her long list rather off-putting
music, cars, photographer, gazebo, bunting, master of ceremonies, gifts for the helpers, rings, food and champers?
"Or Prosecco if you're tight-fisted!"
Or Prosecco if you’re tight-fisted!”
"What am I going to do, then?"
In the face of this exhaustive list, Iolo sits down, looking anxious, and   asking what he is going to do.   “Grovel – big time!” is Kelly’s recommendation.
"Vicky's ten minutes late!"
Diane is once again complaining, “Where’s Vicky?   Lunch hour finished ten minutes ago!”   Then she walks in, carrying a dictionary.
"I can't afford any more mistakes!"
“Mam and Megan didn’t have one, so I had to go to Y Felin!” she tells them, “I have to make sure I’m spelling ‘Ffos’ correctly.   I don’t want to make any more mistakes – I can’t afford it!”
Dol is full of praise for her grand-daughter;  “Checking spelling – there’s dedication for you!”
"Exactly what is going on?"
Jason wants a word with Diane about the strange behaviour of the workers,
Again there is some amusement
while they snigger.   As this is his business, he demands what is going on.
An abject apology, with flowers
Iolo and Tyler arrive at the Deri flat with flowers for Dani, apologising for telling her to mind her own business, and promising to help her as much as they can.   They are about to go when Britt returns, very contrite,
"He was planning to escape!"
and confesses to Dani, “You were right – he was planning to escape!   I’m sorry for failing to see the truth again, and for all the trouble about the invitation.
"Chester is in the right place!"
Chester is in the right place – where he is supposed to be, and where he’ll stay!”
"These two will help in the Deri tonight"
Dani tells her not to come in for work at the Deri tonight;  “These two will help me,” and after Britt has gone, she adds, “Actually, I could do with a night off as well – you’ll be OK behind the bar, won’t you?”   Tyler replies that they have little choice.
"It's due for delivery this afternoon!"
Jason is becoming tired of his mother’s antics;  “The order is not half finished, and it’s due for delivery this afternoon!   I can’t believe you’ve done this at such a busy time!”   Diane maintains that she was looking after his and Sara’s interests.
"I want you to give the money back!"
Jason continues, You’ve upset the workers – we’re one down and the other two are acting like village idiots!   You should not have deducted the full amount at once – and I want you to give the money back”
"That would make us look stupid!"
Diane flatly refuses, saying that to do so would make them look stupid.  Jason answers, “What is stupid is to upset the workforce when we need their goodwill!   Give the money back and apologise!”   Again Diane refuses,
"Right, we will work late and get it finished!"
so he tells her, “In that case, you and I will work on tonight to get the job finished – I hope you didn’t have any plans!”
Only one café customer
In the café, business is very quiet, with John Post the only customer;
"I can't afford to pay you for not working"
“I can’t afford to pay you for not working,” Debbie tells Kelly,
"You asked me to work, so you pay me"
who points out that she had been asked to work, so must be paid.
And now even that customer goes
John Post leaves,
"You're mistreating a worker!"
and Kelly moans, “You’re doing exactly what Awyr Iach are doing to Vicky – mistreating a worker!”   Debbie promises that they will be busier tomorrow, but is told, I”m helping Dani tomorrow with the wedding.”
"That's going to cost me even more business!"
“The wedding that’s going to cost me even more business!” sighs Debbie.
"Thank you for overlooking Britt's behaviour"
Dani arrives at Britt’s flat, and Colin expresses his appreciation that she is overlooking what happened last night.
"He said I've failed as a mother"
Britt tells her that Chester said he is going to die if he doesn’t get out, that she has failed as a mother, and she does not love him.
"All I can see is his face!"
“All I can see is his face – so badly let down!” she whimpers.
"You did the right thing, Britt"
Dani reassures her that she has done the right thing, but Britt replies, “That doesn’t mean that everything will be all right, does it?   It doesn’t mean I’ll get forgiveness – maybe it doesn’t matter whether he forgives me or not.
"I'll never forgive myself!"
Without a shadow of doubt, I’ll never forgive myself!”
