| "He doesn't bother writing to his mother!" |
In the Deri, Iolo tells Britt that he has had a letter from Chester; “He doesn’t bother writing to his mother!” is her reply. Iolo adds that he wants to come to the wedding, as apparently they can have day release for special family events. “It would do him good, and remind him that he’s part of the family – but it’s up to you,” she says,
| Britt is glad Iolo has invited him . . . |
and hugs Iolo.
| . . . but Dani is certainly not |
Britt turns and tells Dani the good news, but Dani is shocked;
| "I shall be in Llanarthur all day" |
Iolo announces he is off to Llanarthur on an all-day job.
| "I've forgotten what to wear" |
At Y Felin, Siôn comes downstairs after looking for some work clothes; “It’s a long time since I’ve done any physical work,” he tells Gwyneth, “I’ve forgotten what to wear.”
| "I liked you sitting there, translating!" |
She says that she liked to see him, sitting there, doing his translation work, but he assures her, “I’ve not retired, I’m just trying something new. I can always come back to translation if needs be.”
| "Your clients will find someone else" |
She moans that his clients will have found someone else to do it by then.
| Courtney looks pleased with herself |
Courtney looks very happy as she checks her makeup.
| "See you tomorrow, Chester!" |
Britt is speaking to Chester on the phone; “Do you want me to bring anything tomorrow? I’ll be bringing an invitation to the wedding – see you tomorrow!”
| "Nice to give Chester some good news" |
Then she tells Dani that it is nice to be able to give Chester some good news.
“Are you sure it’s a good idea for Chester to come?” Dani asks, “Don’t you think it will upset him – coming out and then having to go back?” Britt considers that it will give him something to look forward to, and when he goes back, then he can look forward to his release.
| "You don't think he'll try to escape?" |
“Dani is doubtful; “You don’t think he’d try anything, do you? Escape during the wedding? He’s only fifteen, but he can still run!”
| "He's not one of the Great Train Robbers!" |
“He’s not one of the Great Train Robbers!” protests Britt, “He just wants to come to the wedding!”
| "He's taking this plumbing business too seriously!" |
Gwyneth goes to see Iolo, emphasising that she is worried about his father; “He’s taking this plumbing business too seriously – he’s not as practical as you.
| "It's better that he sticks at what he's good at" |
“It’s better that he sticks at what he’s good at.”
| "Better for who?" |
“Better for who?” demands Iolo, “More money comes in if he sticks to translation!
| "You don't want anything to ruin it for you!" |
“You’re cosy at Y Felin and you don’t want anything to ruin it for you!”
“I know you don’t like me,”Gwyneth responds, “But you shouldn’t let that stop you doing what’s right for your Dad. He won’t be happy if he fails, and we know how reckless he can be when he feels guilty.
| "We don't want him to run away again!" |
“We don’t want him to panic and run away again – then best thing you can do is not to give him any reason to consider doing that.
| "Make up an excuse" |
“Perhaps you could make an excuse that you can’t get insurance or something.”
| "I'll think about it" |
Iolo says that he will think about it.
| The wage packets are doled out . . . |
Vicky is understandably angry when she is handed her wage packet by Diane and finds that all the costs of the logo mis-spelling fiasco have been deducted.
| . . . and Vicky's is very undernourished |
“Awyr Iach shouldn’t wait to be reimbursed!” snaps Diane, “It’s not fair that the company should be out of pocket!”
| "This is not enough to live on!" |
but Vicky protests that what is left is not enough to live on.
| "It's not a good idea to invite Chester!" |
Dani catches Iolo in the street and tells him, “It’s not a good idea to invite Chester – he’s going to escape!”
| "I'm fed up with people telling me what to do!" |
Iolo is becoming tired of other people telling him what to do, and insists that Chester will be coming; he gets into his van
| Dani's entreaties have no effect |
and drives away.
| "This programme is boring" |
Courtney and Ricky are watching television when she suggests,
| "Do you want to go upstairs?" |
“Do you want to go upstairs?”
| "Upstairs – are you sure?" |
He asks her if she is sure, and she confirms that she is,
| Off they go |
so they head in that direction.
| "If he tries to run away . . ." |
Dani’s next stop is Y Felin, where she tells Siôn she doubts that Chester will be watching the wedding if he comes; “If he tries to run away, he will spoil things!”
| "Someone will be guarding him" |
Siôn is of the opinion that officers will be guarding him, and asks if she has talked to Garry about it.
| "Garry can't do a lot!" |
“He can’t do much where he is – and Britt can’t see what might happen! Tyler is not happy about it either.”
| "Look, I'll have a word with Britt" |
Siôn would prefer not to interfere between Iolo and Tyler but agrees to speak to Britt.
| The workers are not happy |
There are grumblings of discontent between the workers as they have their break in the café;
| "If they get away with it once, they'll do it again!" |
“We can’t let Diane dock Vicky’s wages – or we’ll all be working for nothing!” says Dol, “If they get away with it once, they’ll do it again – I think we should go on strike!”
| Gwyneth suggests a 'work to rule' |
Gwyneth suggests another approach; “We work to rule – go in prompt at nine, leave dead on 5:30, take every break we are entitled to – and work very, very carefully.”
| "Right, your break's over now!" |
Then in marches Diane; “Right, your break’s over now!”
| The door is slammed in her face |
Without a word, the three walk out – shutting the door in Diane’s face.
| "The boiler broke down" |
Siôn visits the Deri; “I like the new sign above the door,” he comments to Britt, “The boiler at Y Felin broke down earlier in the week.”
| "Pilot tube again, was it?" |
“Pilot tube again, was it?” enquires Britt, and Siôn says that maybe she should be working with Iolo instead of him. He explains he is finding out if he likes plumbing work,
| "Chester will have to think about finding work" |
and adds that Chester will need to think about finding work when he is released.
| "I'm visiting him tomorrow" |
Britt announces, “I’m going to visit him tomorrow. He doesn’t like it there – but then he shouldn’t!”
Siôn maintains, “It’s important he realises what impact his actions have on others, including his mother. I can understand why you want him at the wedding.”
| "Who told you that?" |
When asked how he knows about that, as Iolo is away on a job in Llanarthur all day, he has to admit that Dani told him.
| Dani has been lurking just out of sight |
Dani has been listening round the corner, out of sight, but now comes in,
| "You're meant to persuade me!" |
as Britt snarls, “I should have known, with you being so kind – you’re meant to persuade me to stop him! Is is to hard to support me, just for once? Why do you think he’ll stage The Great Escape? You just don’t want him to spend a special day with his mother!
| "I hope he does spoil it!" |
“I hope he does spoil it – that’s what you all deserve!”
| "I want a day off tomorrow" |
At Awyr Iach, Gwyneth asks Diane for tomorrow off, as Siôn needs help with his translation,
| "No chance – we're much too busy!" |
but is turned down as the place is so busy. “You put Jason and Sara first – it’s only right that I put Siôn first!” responds Gwyneth, adding, “I’ll just phone in sick tomorrow, then.”
| "If you do, I shall know it's a lie!" |
Diane objects, and says that she has witnesses to this fraud,
| "Do you know what, Vicks? I think I'm going a bit deaf!" |
but Dol remarks, “Do you know what, Vicks? I think I’m going a bit deaf!”
| "Are you OK? Are you sure?" |
Courtney and Ricky return down the stairs; Ricky anxiously asks, “Are you OK? Are you sure?”
| "It was great!" |
She assures him, with a beaming smile, that it was great, and kisses him.
| "Don't feel obliged to stick with plumbing" |
Iolo goes to Y Felin with the intention of trying to dissuade his father; “Don’t feel obliged to stick with the plumbing – if you change your mind, it’s fine with me.” Siôn points out they do not yet know how it will turn out, and argues that this is a positive move.
| "Gwyneth was concerned about money" |
“I can’t pay much,” says Iolo, “Gwyneth was concerned about money.”
Siôn smiles; “Gwyneth is always concerned about money! I want to do this!” Somewhat reassured, Iolo tell him that the insurance has come through and he can start tomorrow.
| "I've taken the day off tomorrow" |
Then Gwyneth comes in, announcing that she has taken tomorrow off to spend the day with Siôn,
| "I shall be working with Iolo!" |
but he replies that he will be working with Iolo. “The paperwork came through, so there’s no point in wasting time –
| "No point in letting someone else tell me what to do!" |
“or letting someone else tell me what to do!” Iolo remarks, very pointedly.
At closing time, Britt shepherds the last few drinkers from the Deri and bolts the door.
| "If he does a runner, where will he go?" |
Dani tries again; “I know you don’t want to listen to me, but if he gets free of the guards and does a runner – where does he go? If he’s in the village, they’ll find him; does he sleep rough on the Wenallt – or go abroad? You may never see him again!”
| "You're talking nonsense!" |
Britt accuses her of talking nonsense; “You just don’t want him at this perfect wedding – where he’ll remind everyone of how they’ve let him down.”
| "It's not worth the risk!" |
Dani angrily goes on, “Why should a child like Chester, who has hurt so many people, join in the celebrations of the village? It’s not worth the risk!
| "I'll ask them not to release him!" |
“If you don’t get Iolo to write to him and tell him not to come, I’m going to phone the detention centre and ask them not to release him! I don’t want to hurt you, but unless you back down, I will phone!”
| "All right, you win, Dani" |
In tears, Britt appears to admit defeat; “All right – you win! You go and check the cellar, while I cash up.”
Dani unlocks the cellar door
| Dani checks the equipment in the cellar . . . |
and goes in to check the various barrels and paraphernalia,
| . . . but Britt locks the door |
but Britt creeps down there and locks the door.
| "Britt, open this door!" |
As Dani bangs frantically on the door, Britt snarls at her, “Its about time you had a taste of what Chester’s going through!
| "You can rot in there until Garry comes home!" |
“You can rot in there until Garry comes home.”
| Dani is exasperated |
Britt calmly walks away as Dani continues hammering on the door.
