| Siôn is in no hurry to refurnish the place |
As Siôn sits on the stairs, Gwyneth tells him he needs some sensible furniture, but Siôn considers there is no urgency about it.
![]() |
| "We could have a look in Apêl Maenan |
“We could go to the Maenan Appeal to see if they have anything, and could see the festival as well,” she suggests,
![]() |
| He is still concerned about this thing on his leg |
“And we would be back in time for your curfew.”
Siôn replies that he does not want to see Dai and Colin folk-dancing, or listen to poetry.
![]() |
| "The whole thing could be a flop!" |
“The whole thing could be a flop – you wouldn’t want to miss that, would you?” she asks,
![]() |
| He would not mind seeing that |
and this changes his mind.
![]() |
| "Have you been avoiding me?" |
When Debbie visits Maes-y-Deri, Mark accuses her of avoiding him, after their kiss the other day. “Every time I deliver to the café, you’re not there,” he complains.
![]() |
| "I regret agreeing to do this" |
He is studying the rules of cynghanedd (harmony) for his judge’s rôle, but Debbie calls it ‘Double Dutch’, and he admits he is regretting that he agreed to do it.
![]() |
| Cwmderi is in party mood |
The main street is festooned with bunting as Siôn and Gwyneth walk past Penrhewl’s 4x4, inexplicably parked with the keys in the ignition.
![]() |
| "I'll go and look in Maenan" |
Gwyneth goes into Maenan to see if they have an armchair,
![]() |
| Along the street he sees the 4x4 |
and Siôn notices the 4x4 is parked next to a lamp-post.
In the garage, Garry is giving last-minute coaching to Gwern,
![]() |
| The organising committee |
and the young people’s organising committee, Chester, Courtney and Kelly, are finalising their plans.
![]() |
| "Don't do anything stupid!" |

![]() |
| Chester is worried about Siôn's plan |
Siôn approaches Chester and excitedly tells him, “I’ve just had an idea to put a stop to the festival!” Chester asks why he wants to stop it, and follows him to the 4x4, where he attaches the conveniently situated length of rope to the vehicle and the lamp-post.
![]() |
| Siôn is bent on revenge against the village . . . |
“They can’t hold the festival without electricity – all we have to do is drive off, the lamp will fall and the village electricity supply will be fused!”
![]() |
| . . . but Gwyneth is keeping her eye on him |
Gwyneth has seen Siôn acting strangely and demands what he is doing.
![]() |
| "You could kill someone!" |
“Don’t do this, Siôn! You could kill someone – or is that what you want? Are you punishing yourself again?
![]() |
| "You don't want this on your conscience!" |
“You don’t want this on your conscience!”
![]() |
| "Oh, sorry, Gwyneth" |
In the nick of time he comes to his senses and gets out of the 4x4. “We’ll untie the rope before anyone sees,” says Gwyneth, “Then I’ll take you home.”
Mark and Debbie are working on rhymes when Vicky comes downstairs.
![]() |
| Ricky informs Vicky of his suspicions |
She has just been tipped off by a text from Ricky; “I think Mam and Dad are back together! Try and find out.”
![]() |
| "Are you coming to the festival?" |
They do not want to walk to the festival with Vicky, as they have a lot to sort out.
![]() |
| "I'd like things to go further" |
When she has gone, Mark says, “Listen, Debs, kissing you felt so natural – I’d like things to go further.”
![]() |
| "Are you asking me to jump into bed?" |
“Are you asking me to jump into bed?” she asks, but he assures her that he just wants to start seeing her again, and she will not get hurt, as she is his best friend, but he would like them to be more than friends.
![]() |
| "See how things go" |
“Just give it a try and see how things go – we can keep it secret, so no-one knows,” pleads Mark,
![]() |
| That appears to be a 'yes'! |
and she agrees.
![]() |
| "I don't know what came over me" |
Back at Y Felin, Siôn confesses, “I’m sorry – I don’t know what came over me. I just feel so angry at anything that reminds me of being Siôn White, the pillar of the community – I’m not thinking straight!” She reminds him that he is not the same person now, and she should not have pressurised him to go to the village. “You’ve been very patient with me,” he concedes, and then there is a knock at the door.
![]() |
| Ed wants to talk about his problems |
It is Ed, in a very troubled state, wanting to talk to Siôn; “I have to talk to someone – I can’t do it any more!
![]() |
| "I can't carry on like this!" |

![]() |
| They wait to put their plan into action |
Kelly hurries off to the garage, where Chester proclaims, “One hour to blast-off!”
![]() |
| Siôn knows all about depression |
Siôn advises, “Depression can floor a man – I know that from experience.” Gwyneth maintains that Ed needs to see a doctor;
![]() |
| "I'm too soft on people!" |
Ed points out that he had depression when he came off the steroids, but this is different.
“I’m angry with myself for not being able to sort things out! I’m too soft on people! Couples are supposed to respect each other and be equals – that’s the basis of marriage.
![]() |
| "Then she treats me like dirt!" |
“Sioned’s attitude towards me changes just like that – she’s all right one minute, and treats me like dirt the next!”
![]() |
| Siôn has had enough of this |
Gwyneth answers that Sioned has always been spoilt, so it is no wonder she is hard to please. This is all getting too much for Siôn, who says, “I’d like to give you advice, but my head’s all over the place at the moment. Come back in the morning.”
As Gwyneth shepherds Ed out, she informs him that she and Siôn are going through a difficult patch;
![]() |
| "But I'm desperate!" |
Ed pleads, “But I’m desperate! Do I have to make an appointment to see him?”
![]() |
| "Don't be such a doormat!" |
Gwyneth turns rather confrontational; “Be a man and stand up for yourself! Tell her how you feel – and don’t be such a doormat! Now go!”
Garry moans at length that Gwern should have won the race, as the eventual winner had been cheating, and he has it filmed on his phone.
![]() |
| "It's only a race for little kids!" |
Gethin urges, “Don’t get angry – it’s only a race for little kids!”
![]() |
| "Dai and Jim won't be here!" |
Colin reports that the APD van has broken down near Carmarthen, and neither Dai nor Jim will get back in time.
“We shall have to cancel the folk dancing,” realises Ffion,
![]() |
| "The bouncy castle's burst!" |
and then she is faced with Catrin and Saeed demanding their money back,
![]() |
| Things are not going well for Ffion |
as the bouncy castle is gradually deflating.
![]() |
| "We have to talk about this marriage!" |
Ed arrives home, and tells Sioned, “We have to talk about this marriage – things are not as they should be!”
![]() |
| "I'm happy, so you should be too" |
She replies, “Well, I’m happy, so you should be too. I’ve got everything I want in life – apart from my own home – but you’re going to find a house for us, aren’t you?”
![]() |
| "There's something seriously wrong" |
He insists that there is something seriously wrong, but Sioned continues, regardless, “Don’t talk nonsense – we love each other, of course we do. We’re young, just married – I’m sure a lot of people would be jealous of us”
![]() |
| Sioned turns on the sexual allure |
She kisses him, but elicits no response. “Come on,” she says, taking his hand and leading him towards the bedroom.
![]() |
| "Sorry you're missing all the fun" |
Siôn is sorry that Gwyneth missed all the excitement because of him, but she reassures him that she wanted to be with him, as he needs company. “I’m so grateful for your support, and I’ve been so unfair to you.
![]() |
| "I'd like you to move back here" |
“I’d like you to move back here, as I’m going crazy on my own.”
Gwyneth kisses him and replies,
![]() |
| "I'll get my stuff – before you change your mind" |
“I’m going to get my stuff – before you change your mind!”
![]() |
| A look of accomplishment |
She leaves, with a look of triumph on her face.
![]() |
| "I'm not in the mood, Sioned – I don't want to" |
In the bedroom, Ed insists that he does not want to, and that he is not in the mood. “What’s wrong with you?” Sioned demands,
![]() |
| "It wouldn't be wise to disappoint me!" |
“It wouldn’t be wise to disappoint me! You’d regret doing that, believe me!”
![]() |
| Sadly, this glimpse is all we see of Sioned undressing |
She sits him down on the bed, and begins to undress.
![]() |

![]() |
| Chester and his mates have taken over |
to see Chester and another boy in the rôle of DJs and a large number of young people dancing.
![]() |
| "Sorry, can't hear your protests!" |
She goes to remonstrate with Chester, but Gaynor points out that this is what a festival should be like, with them all enjoying themselves.
![]() |
| "No, Colin, I'm giving it away!" |
Colin reminds his father of the consequences of selling booze from the back of a van, but Sam reveals that he is actually giving it away.
![]() |
| "I'm glad that's over" |
In the café doorway, Mark admits, “I’m glad that’s over – I had no idea how to mark the poetry – but you get full marks from me!”
![]() |
| "You get full marks from me!" |
and kisses Debbie.
![]() |
| This pleases Vicky |
This is noticed by Vicky from along the street.
![]() |
| Meanwhile, up in Sioned's bedroom . . . |
As darkness falls, the camera moves up to the shop flat’s bedroom window;
![]() |
| "You enjoyed that, didn't you?" |
inside, Ed is putting on his shirt, as Sioned says, “You enjoyed that, didn’t you?
![]() |
| "You can go for a couple of pints now" |
“You can go for a couple of pints now.” Ed makes no reply, but sullenly leaves the bedroom
![]() |
| He stands in the doorway downstairs, full of pent-up emotion |
and goes down to stand in the doorway to the flat, in the alley. As he seethes with rage, words are going round in his head; “It wouldn’t be wise to disappoint me!”
![]() |
| Gwyneth approaches down the alley |
Gwyneth comes out of number 9 and heads towards the alley. Ed hears the words, “Be a man and stand up for yourself!” and “You enjoyed that, didn’t you?”
![]() |
| A mentally deranged attacker lies in wait . . . |
As Gwyneth passes him and looks at her phone, he again hears, “Be a man, and stand up for yourself!” He rushes out and slams Gwyneth against the wall by Gwynfor’s workshop;
![]() |
| . . . and knocks her unconscious |
she falls to the ground, unconscious.
![]() |
| Then he is disturbed to hear a noise . . . |
Two drunks at the other end of the alley distract him,
![]() |
| . . . and scurries off to hide |
and he flees into a yard behind the gate in the wall.
