| "Oh – here he comes!" |

| "I'm not paying this bill, Sam!" |
Gaynor shouts upstairs, “I don’t know what you’ve been watching, but I’m not paying this bill!” Anita arrives, wanting to talk to Sam,

| Anita is looking for Sam |
but Gaynor tells her, “He’s still in bed – it’s not like him.”
![]() |
| "Hang on – his shoes and rucksack have gone!" |
Then she realises his shoes and rucksack are missing, and Anita explains that he is moving in with her.
![]() |
| "We're just teaching him a lesson" |
“It’s not serious – Dol and I are trying to teach him a lesson,” says Anita, and Gaynor is annoyed that he has treated the place like an hotel; she is intent that he foots that bill.
Hywel decides it is time he went to CwmFm,

| Bye, see you later" |
and says to Esther, “Bye, see you later – we’ll have a little story.”
![]() |
| "One goodbye before we go" |
When he has gone, Sheryl tells Dani she has one last goodbye before they embark on their adventure, and she will not be swayed by Dani’s entreaties.
![]() |
| She gives Dani a hug |
They hug, and Sheryl sets off with the pram.
At Awyr Iach, Sara is seriously short of staff, with only Vicky there;
![]() |
| Sara does not know her way round a sewing machine |
Sara is obviously inexperienced and makes a mess of operating the sewing machine. When Vicky laughs, Sara snarls, “I pay you to work!” Mark delivers the post and she complains that Sam is late;

| "I'm not surprised, the way you speak to your staff!" |

![]() |
| Colin is confronted by clamouring women |
In the shop, Colin is beseiged by angry women, all looking for his father; Gaynor, wanting her £200 bill paid, Sara moaning about his absence at Awyr Iach, and Anita. They are dismayed to hear Colin’s answer; “He said it’s time to move on!”
![]() |
| "Eileen, I'm off!" |
As they continue to pester him, he shouts to Eileen in the back room, “I’m off!” and on the way out, tells them,
![]() |
| "Tough! It's nothing to do with me!" |
“That’s what Dad is like – and I’m not taking the flak! You’re angry – tough! It’s nothing to do with me!”
![]() |
| He tells his troubles to Britt |
He crosses the road, where Britt asks what is wrong; he explains, “It’s Dad – typical of him! Packed up and left last night, saying it’s time to move on – and I have to deal with the hassles!
![]() |
| "Right, you're coming with me!" |
“Right, Britt, you’re coming with me to talk to Garry!” He virtually drags her towards the Deri, saying, “I can’t sort out my own family, so I’m sorting out yours!”
![]() |
| "You can't go in there – you'll wake her!" |
Hywel returns unexpectedly to the salon, to check on Esther, but Dani protests that he will wake her.
![]() |
| He is afraid Sheryl is pretending |
He asks if Sheryl is OK, as she has had a lot on her mind, and he is afraid she may be pretending in order to stop him worrying. Eventually he pushes past Dani,
![]() |
| He finds the room empty |
only to find the back room empty, and she is forced to admit that Sheryl has gone away with Esther, to avoid the child being taken from her.
![]() |
| "Where is Esther?" |
She does not know where they have gone,
![]() |
| "She's saying goodbye to someone" |
but that she had to say goodbye to someone on the way. Hywel appears to know who this may be.
![]() |
| Sheryl is at the graveside |
Sure enough, Sheryl is by Meilyr’s grave; “I won’t be able to come for a while, Meilyr,” she says,
![]() |
| "Esther and I have to go away" |
“Esther and I have to go away – wherever we are, you’ll be with us, but part of you will always be in Cwmderi, your home.”
![]() |
| "We're going to sit down and have a chat!" |
Colin marches into the Deri flat with Britt, and announces, “We’re all going to sit down and have a chat!” Garry objects to his barging in,
![]() |
| "You don't know how lucky you are!" |
but Colin continues, “You don’t know how lucky you are – I don’t have any family here, but you have each other!”
Garry attempts to make a comment, but is silenced;
![]() |
| "Garry, I'm talking now!" |
“Garry, I’m talking now!” Colin turns to Britt,
![]() |
| "You can't blame Garry" |
“You can’t blame Garry – Chester’s going through a difficult time, and Garry tried his best!”
![]() |
| "There's no point sulking like a child!" |
Then he addresses Garry; “When your sister loses her temper, there’s no point in sulking like a child! You’re proud of being Monks – Monks stick together! Am I right?”
![]() |
| "Do you have any biscuits!" |
As they both nod, Colin adds, “Good – that’s a start – I’ll make us a cuppa. Do you have any biscuits?” Garry asks Britt if he is always like this.
![]() |
| "It's not that poor Cadno, is it?" |
Dol sees Anita looking very downcast in the café; “It’s not that poor Cadno, is it?” she enquires, and is told that Sam has done a runner without even telling Anita.
“What a coward!” is Dol’s evaluation.
Anita thinks she should be grateful she has found out what sort of man he is,
![]() |
| "You could buy me a drink later!" |
and Dol suggests, “You could buy me a drink later, as a token of your appreciation!”
![]() |
| Sheryl is about to leave, when . . . |
Sheryl says her farewells to Meilyr, and then sees Hywel, who is devastated.
![]() |
| "Running away and leaving me?" |
“Running away and leaving me – you’ll get caught – the police are everywhere. We can sort this out, but kidnapping? That’s how the court will view it – we can sort out the paperwork!”
![]() |
| "I am scared!" |
Sheryl admits that she is scared.
![]() |
| "I don't know what I'll do!' |
He goes on, “How will you feel when you’re hiding in a bedsit, afraid someone will recognise you? I haven’t been fine since we lost him – if I lose you both as well, I don’t know what I’ll do!”
![]() |
| Sheryl feels torn . . . |
She urges him to go with them, but he pleads, “If you get caught, you could lose her for ever! Please come back, and we can adopt her properly – we can be a family again!”
![]() |
| . . . but eventually agrees to stay |
She finally agrees, and throws her arms around him.
![]() |
| "He'll realise soon enough" |
Garry emphasises he has done everything possible to find Chester; “Remember what we were like at his age? We insisted we were right about everything – he’ll realise soon enough that running away was a mistake.”
![]() |
| "Chester is too stubborn to admit he made a mistake" |
Colin suggests to Britt that Chester’s stubborn attitude may be a family trait. As he and Britt get up to leave,
![]() |
| "I'm not sure whether you're brave – or stupid!" |
Garry says, “It takes guts to try and sort out the Monks – I’m not sure whether you’re brave – or stupid!”
![]() |
| "We all know you're a teddy bear deep down!" |
“We all know that you’re a teddy bear deep down,” replies Colin, whih makes Garry smile.
![]() |
| "You're quite a guy, aren't you?" |
He remarks, “Beneath all that clown paint, you’re quite a guy, aren’t you?”
![]() |
| They are not complimentary about Sara |
Over lunch in the Deri, several derogatory comments about Sara are being made. Vicky says her fingers were like pincushions, and Mark maintains she would not be hurt, as she has no feelings.
![]() |
| She offers their jobs back |
Then Sara appears, rather less confrontational, offering Anita and Dol their jobs back. Dol negotiates,
![]() |
| "An extra £2 per hour!" |
“An extra £2 an hour – and we’ll think about it!”
![]() |
| "Result!" |
After some haggling, they settle on a £1 per hour pay rise.
![]() |
| Hywel and Sheryl are back in the village |
Hywel and Sheryl walk past the shop, where they encounter Gaynor and then Dani,
![]() |
| "I'm so sorry, Sheryl!" |

![]() |
| "Sheryl Hughes, I am arresting you" |
DS Davies intones, “Sheryl Hughes, I am arresting you on suspicion of bringing someone into the country illegally.”
As she continues reciting the caution, Sheryl is convinced that this has been set up by Hywel; “You tricked me!” she shouts.
![]() |
| Sheryl is separated from the baby |
She is led to a police car while Esther is taken in the other direction;
![]() |
