29 June 2016

"I've only just got her off to sleep"
Hywel meets Sheryl, who has managed to get Esther off to sleep;  “You look tired,” he tells her, “I have a meeting at lunchtime, but I can have her for a few hours, while you can run a bath and have a few hours’ sleep.
"You need a break"
I’m concerned about you – you need a break.”
She eventually acquiesces
Sheryl is reluctant, but eventually agrees, not without second thoughts.
Iolo almost 'throws a wobbly'
Tyler comes home unexpectedly and finds Iolo doing some pruning of a shrub in the back garden;  creeping up behind him, Tyler surprises Iolo, who protests loudly.   “Why do that?   What are you doing home anyway?   You gave me a shock – I was not expecting you home!”
"You nearly lost it there"
Tyler is concerned that he is trembling;  “You nearly lost it there – will you be all right to box on Thursday?   If you’re still jumpy, it’s not a good idea!”
Iolo is not as confident as he makes out
Iolo is still nervously fiddling with the rubber band on his wrist as he assures Tyler that he is looking forward to seeing who he will be up against in the tournament.   “What if we fight each other?” he asks.
"Ah – isn't she lovely?"
Later, Hywel manoeuvres the pram out of CwmFM and meets Siôn, who can see that Hywel is flustered as he searches for Sheryl to hand back the baby.
Fixture list for the Tournament
Inside the Deri a notice declares that in the Boxing Tournament, the first round is Colin v Iolo and Ed v Eifion.
Dan cannot enlighten Iolo
This troubles Iolo, and he asks Dan, behind the bar, why Tyler’s name is not on the list.
Hywel is still in charge of Esther
Hywel comes in, complete with pram, having been unable to contact Sheryl, so has brought Esther to his meeting.
Hywel's guest arrives for their meeting
As he parks the pram, his business colleague arrives;  he comments, “She’s fast asleep, and shouldn’t be a problem,
"As long as she's not going to put pressure on me!"
unless she puts commercial pressure on me to make a better offer for her father’s business!”
Hywel orders a bottle of Rioja and tells the anonymous businessman that his offer is very generous and will benefit CwmFM greatly.
Siôn is not made welcome
Siôn visits Iolo, but is not made welcome;  he insists he wants to help people, and it makes sense to help his own son.
"Your'e in the wrong place at the wrong time!"
“What on earth are you doing?” demands Iolo, “Do you want people to like you again?   If you want forgiveness, you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time!   If I were you, I’d go home!”
An urgent message for Tyler
Siôn sadly turns and leaves, as Iolo leaves an urgent message for Tyler, “Can you come straight home after school?   It’s important.”
He is full of praise for Hywel and CwmFM
The anonymous benefactor praises Hywel;  “Thanks to people like you, companies like CwmFM play a major part in promoting and protecting the language in rural areas.   The station suits our company investment plans ‘to a T’ – a relatively small community-based enterprise with plenty of vision and ambition!”
They have come to a mutually beneficial agreement
Hywel assures him that his sponsorship will help CwmFM a lot, and that he will check the contracts this afternoon.   They shake hands, his guest leaves, Hywel thanks Dan for an excellent meal and returns to the radio station.
Oh dear – Hywel is going to be in trouble!
The camera lingers on the fact that he has totally forgotten Esther and her pram.
Arriving back at CwmFM . . .
Hywel is talking earnestly on the phone as he arrives back at the radio station;
. . . Hywel realises the awful truth . . .
he pulls out the keys to the studio and finds a dummy in his hand.
. . . but the Deri is deserted
Panic-stricken he rushes back to the pub, only to find it deserted – and the baby gone.
Dan cannot help him;
"Sorry, I've been down the cellar"
“Sorry, I’ve been down the cellar,” he says.   Then Hywel’s phone rings, and he is aghast to see it is Sheryl.   Ignoring the call, he dashes out, in search of Esther.
Tyler comes home and asks, “What’s the disaster, Mr Drama Queen?”
"I'm fighting Colin!"
Iolo reveals he is boxing against Colin, and Tyler sniggers.   Iolo is convinced that everyone else will be laughing, and it will be so embarrassing, but Tyler dismisses it as a bit of fun.
"When were you going to tell me?"
“The problem is – I thought we were being honest with each other,” says Iolo, “When were you going to tell me you’d pulled out?”   Tyler replies that he was worried at having to fight Iolo, and did not want to hurt him.   “I’m not a pathetic wimp, you know,” Iolo rages, “How can I get my confidence back if you treat me like I’m useless?”   He walks out of the house.
"Iolo, have you seen Sheryl?"
Hywel is still frantically searching, but Iolo cannot help him;
Gwen is cleaning the windows – again!
then Iolo stops, looks back at number 7
Iolo evaluates the situation
and thinks for a moment.
"I'll kill him!"
Sheryl has had a visit from Siôn, who has returned the abandoned baby to her;  she is shouting, “Anything could have happened to her!   I’ll kill him!   The truth is that he doesn’t care about her!”
Siôn tries to point out that it was just an accident,
"I think he did it deliberately!"
but she continues, “I think he did it deliberately!”
Esther expresses dissatisfaction . . .
then picks up Esther,
. . . and is given a cwtch
saying, “Come and have a cwtch with Mam.”
"I can deal with children when I come home"
Iolo returns to number 7;  “Calmed down?” asks Tyler, “I work with children all day long, so I can deal with children when I come home as well.”   Iolo regrets that he overreacted, but was concerned that Tyler thought so little of him.
“It doesn’t help when you says you’re scared of hurting me – and you asked if I was all right to box, as if I was a child,” Iolo complains.   Tyler is worried that he has not recovered from the trauma of being beaten up.
"It's not fair if I compete against anyone"
“I used to box when I was younger – and I was good at it,” reveals Tyler, “It’s not fair if I compete against anyone.   I think the world of you, and I don’t want you to get hurt!”
"Everything I want is in here"
Iolo admits, “I thought out there – why am I walking away when everything I want is in here?”   They embrace.
"What if you hadn't found her?"
Sheryl demands, “What if you hadn’t found her?”   Siôn explains that Hywel is stressed, and it can affect people in different ways.   “But to just leave her there, after what happened with Meilyr?” rants Sheryl, “There’s no excuse for leaving a baby in a pub!   He just doesn’t want her – or doesn’t love me enough to make it work!”
"He might be more fragile than you realise"
Siôn suspects that forgetting her might be a sign of Hywel’s mental condition;  “He might be more fragile than you realise – taking responsibility for raising other people’s children.”   Sheryl points out that Siôn welcomed Britt’s children and gave them a home;  he agrees that it worked for a while, but was not an ideal situation.
"Perhaps you and Hywel should get some support"
“Perhaps you and Hywel should get some support to deal with this,” Siôn suggests, but Sheryl doubts that Hywel would agree to that, as he is so stubborn.
"Something terrible has happened!"
Then Hywel rushes in and confesses, “Something terrible has happened!”   He is immediately reassured by Siôn that Esther is there.   “I’m so sorry!” says Hywel.
"Sorry?   Is that all you have to say?"
“Sorry?   Is that all you have to say?” roars Sheryl,
He picks up Esther, fleetingly
and when Hywel picks up baby Esther from the pram, she wastes no time in taking her away from him.
Hywel realises his shortcomings
He knows that she must be angry with him, but she snarls, “Angry?   You have no idea!”
A letter from the Courts Service
On arriving home at Y Felin, Siôn finds a letter from Her Majesty’s Courts Service;
Siôn is in Court on 2 September
he opens it and finds he has been summoned to appear before Swansea Magistrates’ Court.
This concerns him
He appears concerned, and hides the letter in a drawer.
"I swear it won't happen again!"
Hywel swears that it will not happen again;
"I won't let her out of my sight!"
“You’re right!” rages Sheryl, “I won’t let her out of my sight ever again!   It happened because you don’t care about her – I’ve been fooling myself – we both have –this isn’t going to work!   I’m not willing to face the future without Esther – and you don’t love me enough to make it work!”
"When I realised, I was scared witless!"
He protests that is not fair;  “I care about the little one – when I realised, I was scared witless!   It was almost the same feeling as when I realised Meilyr was not breathing.   I thought that something had happened to Esther, and it was more than I could bear!   That’s the problem – I don’t want that responsibility – I don’t want to fail again!
"My heart belongs to Meilyr"
“I was scared that if I find room in my heart for Esther or anyone else, the place which belongs to Meilyr – that I’m betraying him.   Does that make sense?”
"He'll always be in our hearts"
Sheryl insists she is not asking him to replace Meilyr with Esther, as he will be in their hearts for ever, whether Esther is here or not.
"It's gone too far!"
“It’s gone too far – can you forgive me for what I did?” pleads Hywel, “You said you wouldn’t let her out of your sight, and time is not going to make any difference.
"I have to move out!"
I’m not fit to be a father – you’re right, I have to admit it – and move out!”
