28 June 2016

"I've got a surprise for you!"
Sioned arrives at the shop in a good mood, telling her mother that she has a surprise;
"And here's a clue"
as a clue, she picks up “Gurgle” magazine and points to the baby on the front cover.
"Are you serious?"
When Eileen asks if she is serious, Sioned replies, “Yes, Gran!”   Eileen looks less than happy;  then Gwyneth comes in for a pound of apples.
"It's revision day"
Chester is playing on his laptop and tells Garry that today is a revision day;
"What – revising Power of Empire?"
“Since when has Power of Empire been part of revision?” enquires Garry, “I wanted a word with you – I’ve got a favour to ask.
"I want you to say you were with me on Thursday night"
I want you to say you were with me on Thursday night.”
"What, like an alibi?"
Chester thinks this is exciting.
They get their stories straight
“Just in case anyone asks, we need to agree on what we did,” Garry continues, “We were here all evening, and didn’t see anyone.  We weren’t watching the box, as they could catch us out too easily.   Do you play poker?   Right, I was teaching you how to play, and we had a pizza – out of the freezer, not delivered!   It’s nice to know I’ve got a decent back-up!”
"It's safer if you don't know"
When Chester wants to know what he was really doing on Thursday, he is told that it is safer if he does not know.
"Whose lacy underwear is this?"
At Awyr Iach, Sara has found a bag containing some risqué lingerie and a bottle of wine;
Dol suspects Anita . . .
Dol and Anita deny all knowledge of it,
. . . and Anita suspects Dol
although each suspects the other.   “With Jason in Australia, it’s nothing to do with me!” insists Sara, “And it can’t be Vicky’s – it’s too big – I’ve checked.”   She reminds them of the workplace rules – no hanky-panky and no alcohol.
"What a pity Auntie Marian is not still here"
Outside the shop, Sioned is disappointed that Auntie Marian is not there, as she would have been excited.   “Ed doesn’t know yet – I’m waiting for just the right time, and he’s working tonight and tomorrow night.   Don’t tell anyone until I’ve told him!”
"We should have a chat"
Eileen says that when Colin arrives they can have a cuppa and a chat.
Chester moans to Dani that this revision is a waste of time.
Chester is all prepared for DS Davies
Then they are surprised by the arrival of DS Davies, who wants a word with Chester.   Under the pretence of turning off the cooker, Dani sends a quick text to Garry;
Emergency message to Garry
“Cops – come quickly.”
"What were you doing on Thursday night?"
The DS asks Chester what he was doing on Thursday night, and he recites the prearranged story.
"Er . . . I was working downstairs"
Dani, on the other hand, is rather confused, but says she was working in the bar downstairs.   They hear the text tone on Dani’s phone, which is still over by the cooker;
Dani does not see this text
“Coming now – don’t say anything.”
"Can I assist you in any way?"
Siôn, apparently hoping to salvage his reputation in the village, accosts Vicky and asks if there is any way he can help her.
"Feeling guilty, are you, Mr White?"
She replies, “Like Community Service?   Feeling guilty, are you, Mr White?”
He has a look at the shopping list
He offers to do her shopping for her, so she hands him her shopping list.
"No matter what everyone else says!"
“You know what?   You’re a good bloke really – no matter what everyone else says!” she says, as Siôn smiles contentedly.
Chester looks very self-assured, unlike Dani
DS Davies is running through Chester’s story, as Garry arrives;
"DS Davies, what a pleasure!"
“Well, well – DS Davies, what a pleasure!” he says.   She leaves, as she has all the information she needs – for now.
"That was fun– she's thick!"
“That was fun – she’s thick!” comments Chester,
"Hey, what's going on here?"
and Dani wants to know what is going on, as it is obvious that they have been up to something.
“I had to face interrogation without a clue what was going on,” she complains, “Where were you?   Now you’ve dragged him into this!”
"It's nothing drastic"
Garry seeks to assure her that he has simply been making a little extra money for them, and that it was nothing drastic.
"Garry and I have it all under control!"
Chester interrupts, “Garry and I have it all under control!”   Garry tells him to go and do his revising in his room,
He does a spot of eavesdropping
but of course he lurks just out of sight to listen to what follows.
Chester has a good vantage point
Garry reiterates that he has done nothing which could land them in trouble;  Dani is not reassured.
"You might as well put that gun back in his hand!"
“Haven’t you harmed him enough?   You’ve not learned anything from that stuff in Bethania – you might as well put that gun back in his hand!   You should never have put him in that situation.”
"That boy could be useful in the future"
Garry insists that Chester is a bright boy, and could support them in the future, but Dani warns, “You need to tread carefully!
Chester does not like what he is hearing
How would he react if he found out that you forced Siôn to hide the gun?”   Garry is confident that he will never find out.
Eileen's questions are coming thick and fast
Eileen asks more questions, “Have you had a date yet?   What does the doctor say?   Have you booked a scan?   How late are you?   Are you sure about this?”   Sioned wonders why her mother cannot just be happy for her, but is told she is putting the cart before the horse.
"This is typical of you!"
“This is typical of you!   If I won the lottery, you’d find a problem with it!” roars Sioned, “I’m going for a lie down!”
Siôn is proud of his shopping skills
Vicky is emerging from the café when Siôn comes over with two bags of shopping;  “I got it all for less than £30, and the receipt’s in my pocket – there was an offer on the tea – three for two.”
"Oh – do I have to pay?"
Vicky plays the innocent;  “Oh – do I have to pay?   You said Community Service, but didn’t mention cost!
You've been had, Siôn, mate!
I don’t even have £30.”
Gwyneth hears of his selfless acts
Gwyneth meets them, carrying a box, and Vicky tells her, “Siôn’s done all this shopping for me – he’s a lovely man, if you ask me.”   Then she apologises to Siôn, “I’m really sorry, I must have misunderstood.   I’m sure I can carry the bags.”
"Off she goes – and so does my thirty quid!"
Siôn watches her go, with a look of concern at losing £30.
Sam knows nothing of the underwear
In Awyr Iach, Sam also denies any knowledge of the underwear,
"Why are you making all this fuss over nothing?"
and Dol wonders why Sara is making all this fuss over nothing.
Gwyneth arrives with the box, which apparently contains labels;  they all look at her and then at each other.   Sara produces the bag,
"This place is a nest of vipers!"
and Gwyneth grabs it, commenting, “You’ve no right to rummage through the staff’s belongings – this place is a nest of vipers!” and hurriedly leaves.
"He must be red-hot, that Siôn!"
“He must be red-hot, that Siôn – even if he is a reverend!” says Dol.
"The outfit I've bought for you is much more classy!"
Sam whispers to Anita, “The outfit I’ve bought for you is much more classy than that!”
Chester turns on the television;  Garry praises him, “You handled the DS like a pro,”
Payment for services rendered
and hands over some money, adding, “Don’t tell Dani!”
Is Chester plotting his revenge?
Chester looks concerned.
Gwyneth is home
Gwyneth returns home to keep Siôn company;  “And maybe I have a little surprise for you, too,” she says, “Did you have a rewarding afternoon?”
"That Vicky cheated me out of £30!"
He tells her of his campaign to restore his good name, and that Vicky tricked him into paying for her shopping.
"You must help someone you can trust"
Gwyneth advises that next time he should help someone whom he can trust.
"How about a nice meal tonight?"
“Why don’t we have a nice meal tonight?   Lock the door and forget all about the Vickys of this world?” she suggests,
Siôn reckons he needs some fresh air . . .
but is disappointed when Siôn decides that what he needs is some fresh air,
. . . which does not please Gwyneth
and goes for a walk, alone.
"Is this just one of your games?"
Eileen says that she may as well be honest with Sioned, “Is this baby business one of your games?   We both know how determined you are when you get an idea.   I know you like having your own way, but I wonder if you’re having this baby for the right reason – you know what happened between Ed and Angela. I’m worried that you’re doing this to keep Ed – and I don’t think he’s the right man for you!”
"Why do you have to spoil everything?"
Sioned’s anger is rising;  “Why do you have to spoil everything?   Perhaps you don’t have strong maternal instincts, but I know I’m pregnant, and I want this baby – Ed’s baby!   Ed is the right man for me – I don’t know why I thought you’d understand!
"Your track record as a mother isn't great!"
Your track record as a mother isn’t great!   What kind of mother were you to Angela?   Look at the way you’re treating me!
"I'm going to be a better mother than you ever were!"
“I’m going to be a better mother than you ever were, and if I have to do it without your help, then I will!”
Eileen is devastated
She marches off, leaving her mother in tears.
Chester scribbles dementedly . . .
Chester sits on the floor, listening to loud music, and scribbling determinedly in a book;
. . . and is planning his next move
he looks very confused.
