| Ed is sorry for his outburst |
In the café, Ed apologises to Sioned and her mother for what he said earlier. Sioned warns him not to order too much to eat; she is cooking tonight, as Eileen is going out. Ed replies that he will be working late tonight, and there is no-one else to cover.
![]() |
| "This is not about babies" |
Eileen has to get back to the shop, then Sioned assures Ed that this is nothing to do with babies; “It’s about us – we used to be so close, and I want that back!” He agrees, reluctantly, to be available for dinner.

| Linda hears that Diane went with DJ |
When Eifion tells Linda that Diane went with DJ to the hospital a quarter of an hour ago, she is in a great hurry to get her car keys and go after them,

| "What was that all about?" |
much to Eifion’s consternation.
![]() |
| "What did you mean by 'different'?" |
Tyler asks for elucidation; “What did you mean when you said the ring was ‘different’?”
![]() |
| "I don't like it – happy now?" |
Iolo suspects that he has been talking to Kelly, than admits, “I don’t like it – happy now?” He is confused when Tyler bursts out laughing.
![]() |
| "Mine is too plain – boring!" |
“I don’t like this one either,” he says, “It’s too plain – boring!”
![]() |
| "I spent ages picking it!" |
Iolo is offended as he spent ages picking it, and removes his own ring.
“If that’s how you feel,” he says ominously, “How about a swap?”
![]() |
| A ring exchange solves their problem |
They do so, and confirm that they now feel much more satisfied.
![]() |
| "We'll be there for you" |
At the hospital, Diane assures DJ that, whatever the verdict on Cadno’s condition, she and Dai are there for him. “And Mam!” he adds, “It’s the closest we’ve ever been – at least some good has come out of all this.” Again, Diane is about to tell him of his mother’s illness, when the doctor arrives.
![]() |
| "You need to prepare yourselves" |
“Catherine responded well to the splenectomy, but I think you need to prepare yourselves. If she comes through this, there is a possibility of some permanent damage,” the doctor tells them. DJ does not want to hear any more, preferring to dwell upon the operation going well.
![]() |
| "I don't want to hear any more!" |
“I might have my head in the sand, but that’s the only way forward! I appreciate all you’ve done for her, but I don’t want to hear any more!”
![]() |
| "I'll go and get some teas" |
With tears in his eyes, he gets up to fetch a cup of tea, and his mother arrives; “I’m scared, Mam – I just want her back!” he says,

“We should do this more often – we won’t get the chance when there’s three of us!” says Sioned.
![]() |
| "You said this was not about babies!" |
He is angry; “You said this was not about babies, but it doesn’t sound like it to me!”
![]() |
| "Here's my ovulation calendar" |
Her response is to show him the calendar she has prepared, so he will know when she is ovulating, and they can plan accordingly.
![]() |
| "I don't want a baby!" |
He is becoming irate; “Sioned, I don’t want a baby! We’re not ready! Our marriage is a mess, and a baby would finish us! I’m not saying never – just a year – or maybe longer. Where did all the fun go – the laughs we used to have?”
![]() |
| "They died with Dewi!" |
She has the definitive answer; “They died with Dewi!”
![]() |

![]() |
| "Well, it's easier to run away!" |
Diane supposes that it is easier to run away, and not to face up to what is happening.
![]() |

Sioned and Ed are sitting on the sofa, watching television; when Eileen comes in, Ed announces that they are not going to have a baby.

and kisses Sioned, rather too enthusiastically, before leaving.
![]() |
| "Is this what you want?" |

| "Do you really want him to hate you?" |

![]() |
| "I can make it easier for DJ" |
“This cancer is bigger than me – and stronger. I can’t stop it, but I can make it easier for DJ. It’s a shame it has taken me so long to realise that – we could have made up years ago, but it’s too late now!”

| Iolo wants to get married within a month |
Iolo is very keen for them to get married soon, while Tyler would rather enjoy the engagement, and see what happens to Siôn.
![]() |
| "There's no reason to panic!" |
“I know that what happened to Cadno was shocking, but that’s no reason to panic,” he argues.
![]() |
| "Dad's probably going to prison" |
Iolo on the other hand, expects his father to be in prison later, so wants the wedding sooner. Tyler’s opinion is, “We have to get married for us – not for your father – and we can’t arrange it in only a month!”
![]() |
| "Go on – what do you say?" |
Iolo is undeterred and insists he wants them to be married, so in the end Tyler consents;
![]() |
| "You're bonkers – but yes!" |
“Yes – you’re bonkers – but yes!”
![]() |
| "He's in good hands with you and Dai" |
Linda’s mind is made up; “You’ve been very good to me. You’ll think of something to tell DJ – he’s in good hands with you and Dai. Look after him for me!”
![]() |
| Diane did not want it to end like this |
Thus saying, she takes her cases and leaves Penrhewl.
![]() |
| "This is what we agreed" |

![]() |
| "Of course I checked!" |
DJ comes in and sits on the opposite side of the bed; when Eifion indirectly suggests that he did not check behind him on the tractor, DJ insists that he did, but Bobi was too small to see. He adds, “If you want to blame someone, try yourself – you were supposed to have the boys!”
As this is about to develop into a full-scale argument, Cadno groans.
![]() |
| They turn to look at Cadno |
Surprised, they both look round;
![]() |
| "Eifion!" |
she moves her head and mutters, “Eifion!”
