"DJ had a text from Cadno"
As Diane prepares their lunch, she explains to Dai that DJ had a text from Cadno, asking him to help prepare the barn for the boxing tournament.
"It would be easier if they were back together"
“It would be easier for both of us if they were back together,” sighs Dai.
"It would be nice to see a smile on your face, too"
Diane maintains they will just have to keep their fingers crossed.   “It would be nice to see a smile back on his face – and yours too!   I can’t cope with any more tension in this house.”
"Very healthy, champ!"
Tyler comments on Iolos choice of lunch;  “Chips and mushy peas – very healthy, champ!”
"The oven's still not working"
Iolo points out that the oven is still not working, and in any case, he does not need a special diet for Colin.
“Give him a right hook from me, for breaking the oven!” says Tyler, adding, “You will take care tonight, won’t you?   I don’t want anyone spoiling that pretty little face.   I’ve bought a bottle for you, when you beat everyone tonight!
Iolo is pleased that he makes Tyler happy
I’m the happiest I’ve ever been.”
"Don't mind me, boys!"
Colin comes in and marvels at the pair of them, bickering one minute and like Romeo and Juliet the next.   “Ready for tonight, then?” he asks Iolo,
"Colin Evans, under-12 champion!"
“You’re looking at Colin Evans, Lampeter and District under-12 champion, 1979!”   After demonstrating some of his punches,
"Oh, the old shoulder's a bit dodgy!"
he feels a twinge in his shoulder.
Jim has concocted a money-making scheme
In the cafĂ©, Jim is telling Eifion and Ed that he has persuaded everyone to put money on Ed, “So when Eifion wins, we’ll have enough for a few pints!”
Eifion is anxious to ensure that Ed knows the routine;
Eifion ensures that Ed has the details right
“Three jabs and a hook, and you go down!”   Debbie wonders which of them she should put her money on,
"Will you be wearing little silk shorts?"
and asks if they will be wearing little silk shorts.
"I've got some dressing gowns you could borrow"
She has some slinky dressing gowns they could borrow.   Jim goes to make sure she bets on Ed to win.
Cadno is hard at work
In the barn at Penrhewl, Cadno is sweeping the boxing ring;  “Thanks for helping, DJ – it’s not Madison Square Garden, but I think it looks great!   It’s sure to be fun tonight.”
DJ is saying nothing
DJ says nothing, and she continues, “We should host events here more often, and get Penrhewl involved in the community.”   Again there is no reply.
"I can't bear seeing you like this"
“Come on, DJ – I can’t bear seeing you like this.   It’s not the end of the world, and we can still be friends.”
"I'll go and get some more chairs"
DJ goes to fetch some more chairs.
Ed finds flowers on the table
Ed walks into the shop flat to find flowers on the table, and Sioned announces she has some good – no, fantastic – news.   “I’ve been wanting to tell you for days – you love me, don’t you?
"We're expecting a baby!"
Well, we are expecting a baby!”   He looks completely indifferent;  “Aren’t you going to give me a cwtch?” she asks,
Doesn't he look pleased?
so he does, unenthusiastically.
“I’m so excited – I’ve made your favourite quiche for lunch, and for dinner we’re having fillet steak and a bottle of wine!” she enthuses.
"But it's the boxing tournament tonight"
He reminds her that he is boxing tonight at Penrhewl,
Sioned does not like him to disobey
but she insists that it does not matter now.   However, he does not want to let down Jim, and certainly does not want Eifion, his opponent, saying he is a coward.   He promises that he will be home around eight.
"My belly's growing already, isn't it?"
Sioned invites him to have a feel;  “My belly’s growing already, isn’t it?” she alleges, and he forces himself to smile.
"You're going on like an old woman!"
Later, by the boxing ring, Eifion again checks that Ed knows the routine, and Ed describes him as an old woman.   “I’ve got things on my mind,” he moans.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the first bout . . ."
MC Jim Probert introduces the first bout, between Colin and Iolo;
"These gloves are awful heavy!"
Colin complains that his gloves are too heavy, and after Jim has inserted his gumshield,
"Is it hot in here?"
remarks, “Is it very hot in here?”
Colin is unconscious
before passing out on the floor of the ring.
"Not a good start, is it?"
Kelly comments, “Not a good start, is it?”
"Come on, Tyler!"
Debbie calls for Tyler to act as a replacement, but he refuses, until Jim begs him to save the evening from being a complete farce.
Colin receives medical attention
Meanwhile a paramedic attends to the unconscious Colin.
"You're wasting your time!"
Dai has gone to the farmhouse to speak to Cadno;  “If you’ve come to moan about DJ and me, you’re wasting your time!” she tells him.   Dai asks if she realises she has broken DJ’s heart.   She replies, “You should feel more guilty than me, after all the lies you told Linda!”
"You could change everything in an instant"
Dai admits this is true, but after all these years, he cannot change things, “But you could change everything in an instant – I want him to be happy, that’s all.”
"I can't have any more!"
She tells him that it is not that simple;  “He wants children, and I made the decision that I don’t years ago – I can’t have any more!”
The bell rings for round one;  Colin is by now awake, and in the audience.
At first, Kelly cannot bear to watch
Kelly is very worried for Iolo, but as they dance around each other, she shouts, “This is not Strictly Come Dancing!”
Iolo does manage to land one punch . . .
Unexpectedly, Tyler goes down,
. . . and Tyler is out for the count
and is counted out, which makes Iolo very worried.
"The winner is Mr Iolo White!"
Jim announces that the winner is Mr Iolo White,
"The shortest boxing match ever!"
and Kelly describes it as, “The shortest boxing match ever!”   Next is the bout between Ed and Eifion, who is still doubtful whether Ed knows the pre-planned timings.
"He wants children of his own"
Inside the farm, Cadno stresses, “He is great with Bobi and Arthur, but he wants children of his own, and it was only fair that he knew the truth.   A reversal would not have any guarantee of success, and anyway, I don’t want any more.”
"Well, that's it"
Dai is downcast;  “Well, that’s it – we all make mistakes, and I can’t change anything now.”
DJ overhears . . .
DJ has arrived just outside the kitchen door,
. . . Dai say he would love to be a father
and listens as Dai says, “It’s ironic – I would have loved to be a father – having DJ as a son, and doing all the fatherly stuff.”
"Discussing my feelings and my future?"
DJ comes in, remarking, “Well, what a surprise!   The two of you discussing my feelings and my future.   Let’s get this straight – you can’t make decisions for me – and I’ve only got one father – Dic!   So please keep your nose out of my business.”
As Cadno pleads with him to give Dai another chance,
"I'll take the sandwiches"
he picks up the sandwiches and takes them out to the boxing fans.
"It's all right – it doesn't matter"
Dai dejectedly tells Cadno, “It’s all right – it doesn’t matter.”
The second bout has begun
The Ed v Eifion match is under way, and apparently Ed considers his opponent is not adhering to the prearranged plan,
Ed has departed from the script
so he administers an almighty punch, which sends Eifion straight to the canvas, where he is out for the count.
Jim is far from happy with the result
Ed looks pleased with himself, unlike Jim, who stands to lose a lot of money, as everyone bet on Ed to win.
"Ed was over the moon when I told him!"
Sioned tells her mother that Ed was ‘over the moon’ when he was told about the baby.   Eileen apologises for mentioning the Ed/Angela business,
"Do you think you're mature enough?"
but asks, “Do you really think you’re mature enough to raise a child?   Whatever your feelings, I’m your mother and I want to look after you – when you’re a mother, you’ll understand.”
"I just want everything to be perfect"
Sioned says she simply wants everything to be perfect.
Ed is fĂȘted in the Deri
Ed the hero is welcomed to the Deri, but Jim is far from happy.   Debbie remarks that if Iolo had not pulled out of the final, things might be different.   As Gaynor buys drinks all round, Eifion blames Ed for sabotaging their little scheme.
Colin complains about the gloves
Colin comes in and complains to Jim that it was the gloves that caused him to faint.   Eileen informs Ed that Sioned has been waiting for him at home for some time,
"I deserve a drink first!"
but he considers he deserves a drink to celebrate.
"Are you sure you're all right?"
At number 7, Iolo is fussing over Tyler;  “Are you sure you’re all right?   When I saw you lying there, I didn’t know what to say!   I was so worried, because I love you.”   Tyler replies that he is fine, and really happy.
"Why don't we get married?"
“So why don’t we get married?” suggests Iolo,
"Yeah, OK!"
and Tyler, rather casually, agrees.
A football trip has been arranged . . .
Dol and Vicky are waiting for Debbie to come out of the Deri, as Dol has arranged a last-minute trip to France, to watch Wales play Belgium.   Vicky has packed Debbie’s bag and got her passport;
. . . organised by Dol
Mark is going, too, as Dol has done a deal with Dodgy Johnny.   “It’s in his interests to fill the bus,” she tells them.
Off goes the taxi . . .
They pile into the waiting taxi and set off,
. . . flying the flag for Wales
their Welsh flag fluttering in the breeze.
Sioned is not interested in a boxing trophy
Sioned has blown out the candles when Ed finally arrives;  “Look what your husband won – the Penrhewl Boxing Trophy!” he proudly tells her, “Sorry I’m a bit late, but I knew you wouldn’t mind.”   She moans that the meal is spoilt, so he suggests,
"We could go to Cwm Delhi"
“Let’s go to Cwm Delhi to celebrate.”
Sioned is furious;  “I thought we’d be celebrating something more important tonight – our baby, remember?
"You're pathetic!"
If you could see yourself – you’re pathetic!   Do you think I want a country boxing champ as a husband?”   She picks up the trophy and snaps it in half;  “No, I want a real man to be my baby’s father!”
Ed protests that she is being unreasonable, but she snarls at him,
"I haven't started yet!"
“I haven’t started yet!   You’ve ruined everything!   You can sleep on the sofa tonight!”
