"Should I go and wake him?"
“Should I go up and wake him?   Think he’ll go to work today?” wonders Diane.   She tells Dai, “I’m sure it would help if you had a proper chat with him.”
"There is no chance now!"
Dai thinks otherwise;  “If Cadno had not upset the apple-cart, shattering his hopes, I might have had a chance – but now there’s none!   He doesn’t want me, and perhaps he is right!”
"He's so self-righteous!"
Jim is pontificating in the shop, “The worst thing is – he’s so self-righteous, parading around as if he’s the thirteenth disciple!   The truth is he’s not much better than half the criminals in the Western Post.
"And Britt's not much better!"
Mark guesses that he is referring to Siôn;  Jim continues, “Yes – and Britt is not much better!”
"Don't mind me, boys"
Britt has walked in during this tirade, and remarks, “Don’t mind me, boys – it’s nice when friends stop talking as you walk in!”
"You must have known what he was doing!"
Jim asserts that she must have known what Siôn was doing, and he has heard that she has kept her share of the Deri, a share she got through her husband’s fraud.
"That was a bit below the belt!
Referring to the Boxing Tournament on Thursday, she comments, “That was a punch below the belt – do you want to make a formal accusation?”   Jim goes, then Gethin maintains she has some explaining to do, and he leaves, followed by Mark.
"It's too early to face Judge Probert"
Britt tells Colin, “I only came in for biscuits, not Trial by Jury!   It’s too early in the morning to face Judge Probert.”
DJ is up at last
DJ has at last appeared and sits silently at the breakfast table.   Diane says she knows it is hard for him at the moment, but he stops her,
"I want us to forget all this"
“I’ve done a lot of thinking, and the best thing for us all is to forget about all this.   I know you want to help, but the truth is, I want to go back to how it was for the three of us.
"No-one knows about the tests, do they?"
“Nobody knows about the test, do they?   That’s how I’d like it to stay, for all our sakes – Linda, you, me and Dic!”
"Someone had to – you were asleep"
Sheryl thanks Hywel for getting up to Esther during the night;  he answers, “Someone had to – you were fast asleep.   You look as if you need a sleep – you can’t cope – you’re in a right state!”
"Perhaps living with you is the problem"
“Perhaps coping with it is not the problem – but living in an awkward situation with you,” she replies, “We’ve had a terrible weekend, and I can’t stand much more of this.”
"Well, you were the one who brought her back"
Hywel begins to say that it was she who brought the baby back from Africa, and then gives up and leaves for work.   Esther again begins crying.
"Tell me, before you ruin that delivery"
In APD, Dai is taking out his frustrations on a delivery that has just arrived.   “You’re obviously annoyed about something,” comments Jim, “You’d better tell me before you ruin that delivery – I think customers would appreciate light bulbs that actually work!   Are you going to tell me why you’re throwing the stock about?”
"Everything is fine"
Dai insists that everything is fine, but Jim enquires,
"Test results back, are they?"
“Test results back, are they?   You know you can tell me – I know what it’s like – I’ve been through it myself.”
"I'm NOT DJ's father!"
“All right, all right,” answers Dai, “It proves once and for all that I’m NOT DJ’s father!   So everything can go back to normal – and you can zip it about Dic and Linda!”
Jim maintains that it is probably better this way, as Eileen had terrible trouble coming to terms with the fact Angela was her daughter – and Angela was not much better.   It turned nasty between them.
A box full of broken glass
Dai goes off to make some tea, and Jim discovers the box of lightbulbs rattles ominously.
"How about going back to work?"
Diane brings DJ a cup of tea and suggests that he ought to do something, instead of lounging around;  “You could go back to work.”
"Why didn't I think of that?"
“Great idea!” he replies, “Working with the woman who broke my heart!   Why didn’t I think of that?   The most important woman I ever met rejected me – and the rest of my life turned out to be a lie!   I’m going out for a walk – and I’m not going anywhere near Penrhewl.   Cadno will have to cope without her slave from now on.”
Britt has seen a reduction in trade
Colin hurries into the chippy, where Britt tells him, “It’s been like the Marie Celeste in here – nobody wants my chips, but they’re all talking about me.   Jim was only saying what everyone is thinking.”
She offers Colin a rissole and chips, and he invites her to dinner tonight, as Iolo and Tyler are going out;
"How about a tasty little dinner with me?"
“I’m thinking of cooking a tasty little dinner for you and me, to cheer you up.”
"Oh, I've still got one friend left"
Britt is pleased that she has one friend left.
Dai goes for some advice from Eileen
Dai goes to see Eileen, who has just taken a batch of scones from the oven.   “I have to tell you something,” he says, “DJ is my son – I hoped to sort it out, but DJ is in denial.”
"Time is a great healer"
Eileen sympathises, “When you find out, things change, and it’s not easy to keep it secret, but time is a great healer.”
"I don't know what came over me!"
He adds, “I don’t know what came over me – lying to Linda all those years ago, and saying my name was Dic.”   Eileen agrees that honesty is the best policy.
Colin's oven door cleaning . . .
Colin removes the glass oven door to clean it, but manages to drop in on the floor, where it smashes into many fragments;
. . . ends in disaster
he looks devastated.   Then he runs across the road to the chippy, where Britt is ready to close,
He is very apologetic
and tells her of his disaster.   She is unconcerned;  “How about if we have a tête a tête here?” she suggests, “I’ll make you a large fish now – on the house!”
"Pint, DJ?"
In the Deri, Jim asks DJ if he wants a pint,
No reply
but is completely ignored.   Mark comments that he does not know what is wrong with Cadno;  “She could do a lot worse!”
"That Cadno's a tough woman"
Gethin describes Cadno as a tough woman, and when she makes her mind up, DJ has no chance.
"The other matter was a bit delicate"
Jim goes over to DJ and tells him, “I think Cadno made a big mistake – the other matter was a bit delicate, but that has probably worked out for the best, too.”
"What other matter?"
DJ is at a loss to know what other matter he means;  Jim continues, “It avoids problems in the future – the best thing for you both is to forget it and move forward.”
DJ protests that he and Cadno are not moving anywhere;
"Not Cadno – you and Dai – the tests!"
“Not Cadno – you and Dai!” emphasises Jim, “The tests!”   DJ is furious and demands who told him.
Dai has just walked into the Deri,
DJ confronts Dai
so DJ jumps up to confront him;  “What did I tell you?   I asked you not to say a word!   There’s no way you can be trusted!”
Then DJ turns to Gethin and demands, “How would you feel if you found out he was your father?
"I've only got one father – and that's Dic Deryn!"
“So there, you all know now – he’s not my uncle, he’s my father – by birth, but I’ve only got one father, and that’s Dic Deryn!   Don’t wait up tonight – I’m going to Swansea!”
"I always mess up!"
Jim is about to make a comment, but Dai instructs him, “For once in your life, just shut up!   There we go – that’s it now.   I always mess up!”
Mark expresses his confusion
Mark is puzzled;  “How can he be DJ’s father?”
A strained atmosphere in the salon flat
Hywel and Sheryl are silently eating their meal;  “You know we can’t carry on like this, so what are you going to do about it?” she demands.
"There's one obvious way"
He replies that there is one obvious way, but she will not accept it.
"I'm not sending her back!"
“I’m not sending her back to Africa!” rages Sheryl.
Hywel points out that Esther is not an orphan, as she has family, but Sheryl insists that she has no father, her grandmother cannot cope and her mother is sick.
"You're just looking for any excuse!"
“You’re just looking for any excuse!” she snaps, “It would be easier if you agreed to be her father!   If you love me, why not?   Thousands of men are not their children’s biological fathers, but love them just the same.   I love Esther as if she were my own child, just like Wil!”
"Wil, of course – you sent him to Canada!"
Hywel laughs;  “Wil, of course – you sent him to Canada!”   Sheryl insists that it was for his own good, after discussing it with Darren, and bringing Esther to Wales was for her own good too.
"Do you really believe that?"
“Do you really believe that?” says Hywel, “Can you honestly say that it was not for your own sake?”   She replies that he was not a part of her life when she made the decision about Wil.
"Am I part of your life now?"
“Am I part of your life now?” demands Hywel.
"If that's what you want – go!"
“All right then – if that’s what you want – go!” she shouts, but he is adamant that he is not going anywhere.
He makes his stance plain, “It is quite obvious to me that you can’t cope on your own – you didn’t hear her cry last night, as you were exhausted.
"I can't turn my back on a crying baby!"
“Maybe I don’t want her here, but I’m not the type to turn my back on a crying baby!”
Sheryl warns him, “Well, just be quiet and stay out of my way!”
